Make you think twice about Natural Gas power
Gmerrill0516 replied to Back In Black Pulling's topic in Odds and Ends
That hat needs a good bleve...did anyone else notice that while she spoke she was pausing and swallowing or something like she was having a snack...that stuff irritates me to no end...gross...so was the hat. -
FOR SALE Not a Mack, but Cool as Hell !
Gmerrill0516 replied to nasty51ford's topic in Trucks for Sale
If only we had the time and the money to fix them all. That is a cool machine. The big thing is that it is all there by the looks of it. There won't be ten of them at the show either... Come on PowerBall!!! -
It will cost you $30,000 to make that a $20,000 car if you do a bunch of the work yourself....Maybe more. Didn't the 66 have the rear quarter gills like the 67 tempest/Lemans cars? Those are gone too. Looks rusty to boot...It might be a good parts car to save a real 242 Goat...I bought a 67 lemans in Maine two summers ago for $1200 for parts. It looked rough but salvageable to some. One guy asked me while I was fueling the truck if I was going to restore it. I told him no I was going to cut it up for parts...I think I made him sad but my GTO needs quarters...Love those Pontiacs...

A big torpedo heater pointed at the front of the truck...not too close so you burn the paint but close enough to get some heat into the engine. It should crank with good batteries unless the solenoid is frozen to death...add heat.

Just shy of 36" here...I've got enough for at least two winters. -
Why do you paint a truck that doesn't run? That's backwards I think...Still the truck is nice. I like the A's too.

Ryder switches to low-viscosity, high-efficiency engine oil
Gmerrill0516 replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Viscosity is a major factor in managing forces in journal bearings if memory serves me correctly. It impacts the film thickness inside the assembly and the ability of the bearing to properly "wedge" or support the journal with oil rather than contact with the bearing itself. It also serves to retain oil in the bearings for the high wear times like start up. I guess the question becomes, does the increase in fuel economy offset the shortened engine life and overhaul costs over its service life? I'd not go there unless the guy in charge of bearing design from Cat and Cummins says yes, go for it. I'll stick with the manuals...My $0.02 Greg -
To those up in the northeastern states...
Gmerrill0516 replied to RowdyRebel's topic in Odds and Ends
I'm in the "sweet spot" for snow in Mass. 30"+ and it's still snowing. I took two feet out of the driveway around 8:00 and another 8" around 2:00 this afternoon. It is still snowing hard at the moment. It keeps me in shape for mowing the lawn come May. I don't enjoy either. The yard around the driveway is 5' deep. -
Very nice, The paint work is commendable.

I had Verizon and the system crapped out on me so frequently that I changed to Comcast. Eventually that crapped out too. I waited an ENTIRE Saturday for a tech to show up. The "window" was all day and I happen to have a JOB so I can't sit home all day for some guy to maybe show up. After that they had "no record" of my call or my alleged service visit. This went on for days with no sign of any fix. They lied to me multiple times and do you know that if you challenge them on stuff like that they won't even acknowledge your complaint...they just offer to set up another appointment with 4-8 hour windows when the guy might show up...or not. So now I have DirecTV and while I get RFD which I like, the Verizon portion (yes back to them again) is slow as hell for the internet. It works for me but the kids gripe about it. The high speed Verizon "isn't available" in my home town as it is not "required" nor is it apparently cost effective for them to put it in. They ALL suck in my mind. Who can run a business like that and stay in business other than these guys? It wouldn't be so bad if they actually did what they say they would do but that is asking way too much. Frustrating, frustrating, frustrating!!!!! Ok, I'm done now.

1929 Mack AC Bulldog engine
Gmerrill0516 replied to j hancock's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
It's interesting that they mounted the magneto out in front and at 90 degrees to the engine. It's a tandem truck too which is really cool. Do you have a picture from the side at a distance? Cool truck. -
I know a place that could make some up from brass which would need to be cleaned up and plated. I don't know the cost of the plating part but...what would be a reasonable price for a set if you could get them?

FOR SALE B74 parts avaialble. Turbo Mack engine
Gmerrill0516 replied to 1310monster's topic in Parts for Sale
Could use a fifth wheel if it is serviceable. Could you ship it? How much? Air tank and air horns if the chrome is nice. -
A classic Mack with some Nice green and yellow tractors. Love the G and the Mack eddeere. Dad has a 35 GP, 39 A, and 46, 49, and 50 B's...

I picked up a 22.5T air powered hydraulic jack on wheels with a long handle for those jobs. It has different height spacers with it for various height loads etc. Works great now that I filled it with oil...it was low from the factory. It's not convenient to take on the road but is a nice shop tool. It was about $125 from Northern tool or some outfit like that. Crawling is removed from the equation which is NICE!

Another B81 build
Gmerrill0516 replied to mackmb212's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I remember seeing this one advertised for a few years. Gearharts or truck paper or somewhere. It was on a site that had some other heavy equipment as I recall. I'm glad it is getting some love. I'm still hoping to get some floor space under roof again so I can finish mine up...maybe 2015 will be the year. -
Cool TA. You can get into lots of trouble with that...It will be fun though.

Wow. I don't feel safe so I take the "dangerous gun" and bring it to school...What? Was he afraid it would jump out of the dresser and kill him? (Guns kill you know...) With the zero tolerance laws that kid would be GONE...gone from school and gone to jail, or am I missing something? Whoever put that crap together should have their head checked. Do you really want to encourage kids to take dad's gun to school? Really? A new definition of the term brain dead has been made.

Chain Drive
Gmerrill0516 replied to NY-B61's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
If the brakes are working too hard you can just flick the switch on the dash to enable the jake...Works great every time. I'm guessing you paid a good deal of attention to load, road conditions and hills even more so than now...If you didn't you probably didn't live too long even at reduced speeds...Yikes. -
So the drive unit and the owner are "ass" and "dumb ass", right?
-
Teach him how to shift a two stick Mack ASAP. Congrats!
