  1. I'd replace the pump with a new one and check out the bearings as much as possible. The camshaft bearings might have taken a beating and it might be hard to see what is going on with them without surgery. Did he get a warning light or gage indication that he had lost oil pressure or did some other symptom let him know. That is the big question...How bad it it get before he shut her down? Good luck.
  2. You're doing a good thing for the old buck. God bless you and your uncle for the effort. You found the right spot for questions. keep us posted on the project and if anything else comes up, give us a try and for sure someone will know the answer. Lots of smart guys on here...but don't tell them I said so, it goes right to their heads. Greg
  3. In The People's republic, floor drains are only to keep stuff from going out the door and go into a tank that you have to mainatin and empty etc. You can't polute or chance poluting the ground with melting snow etc. I believe Dad had to plug his up in NH as well. Shops are always too small so build build as much as you can afford. In the northern areas, snow sliding off a pitched roof is a hazard. Doors out under the eaves can get tricky. I know one guy with a building who wishes he had a flat roof instead of the pitched roof..I'm not sure that is the answer but something to consider. The stuff you put up to keep the snow from sliding off and killing you is only a marginal measure as well. They fail or tear loose so the snow slides and the roof needs patching...a real pain.
  4. The plywood would help keep it warm...much better insulator than the steel which would yank the heat out of the load for sure. Sand and varnish it up in good shape. You can have one of the "rare" woodie dump bodies. Would definately be worth more then. Let us know if/when she runs.
  5. I don't think they would fare too well for very long...they are not intended to run full throttle all the time..is the horsepower rating the same for each?...brake horsepower vs. SAE net HP? I'm not sure it is the same...I should know that and I don't.
  6. She looks like she still has a lot of promise left in her. I guess knowing if the engine is good bad or otherwise is a big piece of information. Once you know if it runs well or not you can probably see a clear path. I like the fact it is a tractor. Is the dump box really made up with plywood or am I seeing things? Either way, many guys have made nice trucks from less... I can't imagine driving a unishift that would hang in neutral all the time...sounds dangerous and frustrating. Keep us posted and good luck. I hope it runs great and doesn't smoke.
  7. Really nice truck! Love the interior colors too!
  8. It is a luxury but even a hand geared overhead bridge crane is an excellent tool when working on heavy stuff...My Dad has one in his shop and it has always made jobs easy for one man to do, no matter how heavy the load. I'd start at 5 ton capacity and go up. You can do one bay or the whole thing...covering the whole floor is the most flexible arrangement of course. I like the radiant heat concept too...If I ever wind up owning the old man's place I'll have to look at some serious insulation as there isn't any...I think I could just use 4" refer panels all over to make it toasty/cool depending on the season.
  9. Running like a big dog....see what I de there? It's quick.
  10. I'm told they are focusing on units such as landscape companies and small general contractors as those guys typically don't follow the rules as well as they might. I'd proceed with caution...
  11. The sad part is that this had to really happen...you coudn't have made it up if you tried...This is what happens when you let stupid people vote and stupid people hold office...You get stupid...and you can't fix stupid...WOW!
  12. Maybe if they repeal the laws of physics and thermodynamics...I think what they are looking for is called a train...locomotive with many cars on a steel rail system. It would be a tremendous selling point to have a truck capable of that kind of efficency. If the cost were only $14K to make it happen it would have been done. Isn't it true that the emmison crap they have on the trucks now is driving eficiency DOWN? I think a plan is needed but this sounds like a pipe dream to me. Why don't they mandate that trucks should be solar powered and get it over with...better fill the pantry now while the stores have stuff to sell...Dopes.
  13. That is one good advertising scheme. I was laughing before I opened the forum up. All good things come to an end...get a can and keep it handy.
  14. Isn't it possible for a suspension air bag to fail catastrophically like a tire? I remember a guy lost his life but I cannot recall where or when. Anything that contains air pressure can become a dangerous item fast. I think the one I recall was in Mass...Wilmington/Woburn area maybe? Be safe
  15. Wow. It is certainly the unexpected that will give you problems and I think most of us have not anticipated that happening. I will make it a point to follow the OSHA guidance for sure moving forward. Let's all get the word out as much as possible to help our brothers stay safe and whole. I trust you didn't suffer more than a concussion...those can be serious and debilitating. Whatever you do follow the Doctor's orders! I know we all have bills to pay and such but don't make a bad situation worse. Thanks for sharing, God bless and get well. Greg
  16. Glad nobody got hurt or worse. It's too bad people can't just say they screwed up and be done with it. I guess they're all hoping Jesus is busy with something else at that point. Good luck with that. I can't figure how the truck allegedly speeding or failing to yield the right of way or any other scenario puts the nose of his car under your trailer tires without him being at fault...You would think that by the time the tractor went by he would have figured out there might be a problem ahead...Like 4 more tires. Maybe he will go a little easier next time around...probably not.
  17. One thing for sure, you won't see a row of those at the next show. Love the truck. Get her going!
  18. If the driver isn't responsible for seeing that everything that touches the rig happens properly, then who is? There are so many STUPID PEOPLE well intentioned people in the world you have got to rely upon yourself (or trusted Zero in this case) to make sure it goes right. Destroying a new trailer because you are so disinterested, uninterested or lazy to oversee it being driven off is an immediate termination if it were my stuff. I'd be even more pissed at the fact that he was not overseeing it and used laziness as an excuse to say "I didn't do it." Tell your next boss your an idiot...have a nice life. I've got a number of teenagers that follow that mindset. Must be the "new" generation.
  19. Love that L model out on Route 2. That's a nice area, as opposed to thousands of people, no trees etc....The better half of the peoples republic of Massachusetts...
  20. It's always a good idea to argue with the guy trying to help you with the situation...WOW! It's even worse that someone figures the pressure in the tires is weight...That's a good one. Dope.
  21. If and when the enemy tries to take over, the peace lovers will be the ones they kill first...Don't mean that as a threat or anything, it's just reality. We have that kind of stuff because we need it, Peace through strength DUDE! Never bring hugs to a gun fight.
  22. I'd windex the seat and the hood...Check for dents too. May have overloaded the sheet metal...
