  1. I agree that it must be ex-FD unit based on all of the visual clues. Were there any B-85 units built as something other than a fire unit? I've assumed that all 75, 85, and 95 units from any series E, B or L were fire trucks. Is that a bad assumption? I love all these details. It is interesting to understand all that every model was or was not from the factory. Cool stuff.
  2. Great story. I bet you are sick of tires by now. Thanks for sharing and glad it worked out okay. I like the "A's". Good luck with them and keep us posted. That B-81 in the picture above must be an 83 or something with that big radiator...I wonder which? Regards
  3. I noticed that this ruck has the big tall top (sheet metal?) tank on the radiator. I typically think of that radiator being on a B-87 and that an 83 shares the same radiator as the B-815, having the big radiator but the cast tank which is shorter and of course widths are the same being the wide unit and not the narrow one on B-81 trucks...What drove the use of the BIG tank? Was it optional and or specified based upon the location and intended service of the unit? Whats the deal on these?
  4. ATHS in Lancaster MA had a very similar unit in attendance that I neglected to grab a picture of. It had a 8V-92 in it and was nicely painted and finished up. It sounded great and was impressive with much attention to detail. It's like a giant t-bucket but with a closed cab...neat anyway. I'd guess that the guy probably takes it to the dragway but I didn't ask. Cool stuff...agree we don't want to cut up good trucks to make them however.
  5. I'm in love. Looks like the hard stuff has been done already. If you can't toss an angry cat through the holes in the fendors on an 8 series Mack you are doing great! It would be neat to play around with that rig for sure. I too wonder how much, not that I have the coin for it now... Those rear fenders are almost exactly what I want to make for my 815... Greg
  6. I'm wishing this would shock me just a little...When we are all shivering in the dark, it will be a "perfect" world for these guys...Thanks for posting.
  7. I hadn't considered the registration sticker on the rear plate only...makes sense now. Same practice in Mass. I was thinking about the people who have camps in NH just accross the border and register their cars in the other state to save money on excise tax and insurance costs...That's another scheme they clamp down on from time to time. I follow the law. Still nuts to tell someone how they can and can't park..
  8. Hey that is neat. The radiator shutters look like the one on my truck but it doesn't fit the Dart radiator just right...I've never heard of Dart. I would have said FWD but...note quite right. Neat.
  9. What a great time you two must have had. You're a great Dad. I love all that stuff myself. We used to have a Rev. Estes in our town from the Protestant Church who was a major civil war buff and he could tell a story with exceptional skill. I loved to hear him talk about the battles when they invited him into the school to teach. Those were very trying times and I'm quite sure that unless you experience something of that magnitude first hand, you can only begin to fathom the bravery and carnage that took place. At any rate I appreciate the pictures and the story. It's great that you overcame the obstacles and made it all work out. He will never forget that trip! Thanks again Greg
  10. We have front and rear plates around here so it doesn't matter really...still a joke to write ordinances on such matters...Our tax dollars at work!!
  11. I'd guess the EPA had EVERYTHING to do with this...When you have to incinerate the air comming off of a chocolate bean roasting process because it is considered polution, you have a problem. I can't imagine what you have to do to make melting cast iron an environmentally friendly operation. Camp fires will be outlawed soon lke woodstoves and coal etc.....We won't even be able to read with a candle pretty soon...too dirty! Have you hugged a tree today?
  12. Truely amazing! The level of detail is incredible. You are either very very patient or maybe you are serving life in prison and have nothing better to do. Wow. Nice job!
  13. Fuel to NOISE! That's a riot!! Good one.
  14. Good looking trucks there. Thanks for posting the pictures. Those Superliners look great!!!
  15. I think Matt Pfahl had the front part of an engine with juice brakes in it a few years back. You could see if he has it and will part with it. I'd guess that unless it's completely totaled, the old one could be salvaged...Is it really that bad? I'd also google the casting number and compare pictures to ones available if any...Maybe the local old school parts store? That's all I've got...good luck. Greg
  16. I never drove one but have been around them a bit. I love the sound of a 12V detroit. I think it is music...Love a Mack V8 too...I believe they worked well, particularly in the marine applications for which they were designed. Love all the old pictures and advertisements. Things sure were different 60 years ago. Greg
  17. So we spent $1,000,000,000,000 for a plane we are trying to apply in a way it was never intended to be utilized. Maybe we can use it to bring stuff to and from the space station as the three latest platforms intended to do that job all failed to reach the upper atmosphere...Our Gobmint at work...How's the whole health insurance thing going anyway? We should all get our money back! That aircraft was intended to be untouchable...I guess we should have specified "in a good way", not in measurable inadequacy.
  18. They are the same. Trace one then all you have to do is keep the inside vs. the outside straight and it will work... I'd note where the glass sits in the channel (mark it somehow) so that you can get it in the right spot from front to back...I did that and had no problems with the installation. Good luck.
  19. Welcome. Love the Titan trucks...Best looking truck for the "new" stuff. Good luck with it.
  20. I got mine with the with my VT issue and like it. I plan to subscribe myself.
  21. The work of idle hands. They need some long rows of beans to weed and a few hundred bales of hay to collect and get into the bard every day by hand. Cows to feed, water and milk, sh!t to shovel maybe a barn to paint in the late afternoon. Life is too easy and they don't learn to respect or appreciate anything when they don't have to work for anything they have. I sat in church last Sunday with my father and daughter. A family of five was a few rows back. The middle kid was about 2-3 years old. He talked and banged on things for the ENTIRE mass. Mom and dad kept asking him to be quite. My daughter leaned over and said, "you could fix that, couldn't you Dad"? I nodded and smiled as she gets it. My father said after that the one in control in that family certainly wasn't one of the adults. Shameful. My mother would have killed us before we had done 30 seconds of that act. I guess they won't have adamaged spirit or any such nonsense as that. There are no consequences for anything these days. Consequences apparently hurt the kids feelings. Ughhhh...Sorry to see your loader all bashed in like that. Rest asured that it is somehow your fault. Maybe the little turds will learn a lesson, maybe not. I guess we can hope thier parents can start to parent...better late than never.
  22. NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's a horrible thing. They looked nice! What a shame.
  23. Wow is that close. Is there room in the allowable height for a margine of safety? I can't imagine cutting it that close and not scraping the top somewhere. A slight bumb in the pavement or a long wheel base unit that migh span the high sides of a low spot would use up that .02M in a hurry. Not to mention it is difficult to get an accurate reading on the load height particularly if the high spot is in the middle of the load...a good level and a helping hand would be useful... Do they issue replacement underwear at the outlet of the tunnel? I'd be ducking the whole way through... Greg
  24. I can't ever remember see one as a kid but we didn;t stray too far from the farm. I think they are making a good move as the ball games where I live now do a good bit of business.
  25. I like the yellow one at the top of the topic and the gray one with the spokes. Both have a good stance and don't look funny due to scaling and such. Well done for sure. That would be a good model for a kit "truck" if someone like factory five was interested. I bet you could sell a bunch of them if they were done right. I'd convert a dodge/cummins for sure.
