  1. A full 44 rear used to be the cast housings and six spoke hub, a 38 is the fabricated housing with the five spoke hub, and the only difference in a 34 and 38 were the number and thickness of the springs. terry

  3. Everybody that I know that bought a used truck with them changed them before doing anything else, I have worked on them, If everything is new they work real good, but a lot of small parts to fail. terry

  5. Don't know the model no. but some B models did come with a chrysler motor from the factory. terry Think i got the 413 in a B mixed up with the early R models !

  7. 34k and 38k rears main difference is number and thickness of the spring leaves, And spring pads and caps. 34k,38kand 44k diffs are all the same. terry
  8. To get 72 with a 9.10 ratio you must be doing some serious overwinding the engine ! terry

  11. Next faster would be a 3.86 might be hard to find, I would go with a 12 spd. overdrive T1070 trans, with 4.17 rears you will turn about 1750 rpm at 70 mph. terry

  13. I wasn't telling which way to go on the seals, most people don't there are two seals till they get them apart. terry
  14. A lot of people don't realize some of the old macks had two wheel seals on each wheel, hand packed in bearing grease for the inner bearing, and the the outer run in gear oil. With a seal between them, most people would remove the outer seal and run both bearings in oil. Don't know if it takes a different inner seal then. terry
  15. As you look at the front of carrier there is a flat spot to left of input shaft, wire brush this area should be a set of numbers of ratio. terry

  21. A 44.000 camelback is going to be ALOT rougher ride than that taperleaf. terry
  22. Is the truck a work or play truck? I have seen alot of trunnions welded or plated to repair them.
