  1. Least Stephen is buying local.... that’s a pretty cool find! Lol, remember when that movie came out. My teen-y sister took my brothers girlfriend to go see it. On the way home something “big and black” was running across the field at them, up onto the road, at the car, and wiped out the side with its head. They were screaming and crying when they got home. Bear hair, blood and manure on the side of the car. Priceless.
  2. Uniforms are built for momentary fire burst. They gave us some demo tapes at OSHA training. Basically they have a hot air balloon rosebud and nail the clothes for 3-5 seconds with no ignition, minimal damage. That is usually how it shakes down in a split second high voltage arc blast or as we had.... a boiler fire blow back that bout killed one of our guys. Two different guys that parished inhaled fire and steam and destroyed their lungs so FR meant nothing, they were expose for 10-15 seconds. But, yeah, if you let yourself get soaked in gasoline and lit, wearing anything, your going to look like Freddy Krueger.
  3. So do I, I’m wearing my FR2 right now replacing a fuel pump on my F150. Why take chances and work pays for them. My brother in law lit up while torching on a vehicle. Was wearing a polyester sweater with layers underneath. He didn’t realize he was lit at first, when he did he couldn’t get it off over his head properly cause it was on fire and he didn’t want it on his face. Guy got burned down one whole side. His arm pit skin grew closed like a ducks web toe and they had to recut it open cause he couldn’t lift his arm properly. What a mess.
  4. It’s not so bad if it’s 100% cotton. Cotton smolders, but polyester ignites, melts onto you like a self-dealing laminating sheet and then peels your skin off when doc gives it a tug.
  5. Don’t pull wiring. Check cylinders by laying a jumper wire across two terminals while it’s running. You cannot hurt ECU by doing it. They are not insulated because there is no risk of computer damage. If the lights are low you can also see a little dull blue spark and know there is power delivery. An EUP is constantly an open flow (open center) circuit out the top delivery port. In other words rail pressure is going to spray a constant stream, until an electric pulse hits it. EUPs are built that way so you can bleed them easily with no power required to move air through. When your EUP is receiving no signal it is sending rail transfer pump pressure against the injector nozzle, when it pulses, it delivers high pressure and nozzle opens. That’s why if you have a cracked or leaking tip on an injector nozzle they smoke like a chimney, constant rail pressure would spray into the cylinder at all times, unrestricted. Use a jump wire to cut-out test and see if you actually have dead holes. Stop opening lines. Test EUP circuit with a fluke while running and compare cylinders.
  6. I use to have a steel fuel line I’d hook to the pump with a tester jig and injector. Kinda like those spark testers used on you lawnmower engine only for diesel. Gives you a quick answer on delivery. Put your cigarette out though. Crack a line and see what’s pumping out one of the six top delivery ports. Stick a fuel pressure gauge in-line after fuel transfer pump.

  10. They made good springs. Most of the time you will have center leaf breaks and not a main leaf breaks when it is time to retire the springs. Even after a front impact the center bolt will snap and preserve the spring integrity. We'd put a new center bolt in spring, new set of u-bolts and back on the road.

  13. Long as they don’t bring you down too deep on your battery your golden. Our Webasto on the off-sight dozer takes about 20-25 minutes run time to bring it up. It might take less time, but the guy who installed it put it in upside down so you can’t bleed the air out properly. For the record....Not my department. .(-:. Make sure you ID the coolant bleed high-point on the exchanger core during install.

  19. No fix, I've never seen an EUP changed for contaminating the volume of oil via plunger leakage as illustrated. It's not a perfect seal, but sufficient. I think a trace amount could potentially come from a steel-steel seal like the injection plunger uses. 0.05% as you listed...…?……...maybe, but that does not qualify a contaminated engine?
  20. Do the spring eye bushings right in chassis. Hammer if you can swing, threaded rod or center hole Porta power of you can’t. Remove rear upper pedestal and remove bushing on bench or in press. One side at a time may give better control of axle.
  21. Till you shut the engine off, then there is 0 psi oil pressure and 15 PSI coolant. Generally you will see oil in tank first, but always change oil immediately after a cooler failure.
  22. No Liehberr here with DEF, still in interim 4. Afraid to get the second generation Liehberr Interim 4 because it consumes 8-10% DEF to compensate complete removal of the DPF (brother, it sure is a nice clean/open engine compartment though!). The machine Pictured is a Volvo L180H. It simply gave a monitor reading for impurity. I drained everything, flushed, ran some NAPA Ad/Blue through it and switched back. 8K hours and never another issues. Blue paint fixed it I guess? I shot the topside DEF supply through our spectrum and it came out in spec.
  23. Cheers Kampy! Your story is confusing me. Are you saying it is a small scale issue with your DEF, in ND, or seeing issues all over the map? I'm not selling it, but, in defense of the salesman, seems like DEF is pretty hard to screw up. Look to the truck purity sensing, containment and the operator. I had one issue on a Volvo with impurity...in other words the operator was filling the DEF tank with fuel, stopped when he realized it, told no one and brought it in with a code and "no idea what's going on". We had to paint surround blue and put DEF stickers in multiple places. The blue cap was not sufficient, if the operator is a day-dreamer your in big trouble. Volvo put the fills too close together and set up the bad future scenarios. Did you get your hands on some of the impure fluid?
