    I loaded this load in mississippi.Pain in the but with the permits but those guys got me in and loaded in 45 minutes...took two hours to get the first of the permits.
  2. I cann't help you with the hood question, just wanted to say hello and tell you that one of the first trucks I ever drove was a 1978 K100 with the big cam Cummins in it. It had been with Allied van lines at one time and was yellow and white with a 13 od. That ole girls dash looked like the cockpit in a 747 there were so many guages. Also it had the old style New Way air ride. I do hope you buy the Bulldog as she needs a good home. However if your looking for a Bulldog that will kick some a$$, find one with the 996 cubic inch E-9 mack. That sir is pure power. Check out The Buckeye Bulldog on you tube. Or Killer mack both are Superliners that have the Mighty E-9 seriously modified but an E-9 none the less. 4000 horses.
  3. I replaced the one on my rear driver a few years ago no sweat. If it is difficult to line up the holes have some on dump the air in the suspention and when they go in reapply the air. Good luck.
  4. One more thing, you will not find anouther truck that is as easy to drive. I have driven trucks 6 years newer than my ole Mack and couldn't believe how much easier it is to drive. The overall ergonomics is better and it's just less demanding to drive it. I drove an older CH a few years ago and the vision is light years ahead of it. Last year I drove aan 07 freightliner columbia around the block and was wore out by the time I got back to the starting point. The MACK's don't fall apart inside like some of the other brands either. Give it a shot.
  5. Irishflyer I have a 2001 Mack vision with an E-tech E7 engine. It is set up with the Econodyne setting meaning the lowest power/torque profile and it's rated at 427Hp. I currently have 912,500 miles on it and have had o problems with the unit pump injectors. However at 600,000 or so I had to have a cam installed, the dealer recommended that I have the overhead run every 75,000 miles to prevent any further problems with the cam. So far after over 400,000 miles I have had to replace the oil cooler, the fan clutch, and at 800,000 the clutch (original). Almost forgot somewhere around 700,000 I had to get a new starter and alternator and 4 new batteries. It loses about a gallon of coolant a week due to an improperly designed filler neck where the cap doesn't seal properly. That is about it though...except the Eaton rear ends..keep an eye on the end play I have nearly lost 2 wheels when the inner nuts backed off. If you get a wheel seal leak you better stop and get it looked at pronto. That can destroy the axle tube and if they come off get your but sued. Overall I would buy anouther Mack any day of the week. It has been a great truck and has never let me down. If you have work done on it at a Mack dealer and something is screwed up they will fix it free of charge. When I had the cam replaced the dealer over torqued the harmonique balancer bolts and a week later it came off...NOT GOOD. I called the dealer and they paid for the tow to the nearest dealer and for ALL the repaires. I was told the bill would have been about $1,400.00 if It had come off for any other reason.The one year parts and labor warranty on ANY repair done at an authorized dealer isn't bull it's true. So I for one can and will say that it doesn't get much better. By the way if you can find the E-7 in the Maxicruise power profile it will pull better than the Econodyne and if you drive it to save fuel you can get 7mpg I do. Good luck.
  6. My truck has "pushed" coolant since day one but not to bad. The problem is the radiator cap doesn't bottom out on the neck of the filler tube. One day I squeezed the hose from the top tank to the engine and at the same time watched the coolant in the bottom tank ....and what do you know it moved. That tells me that on a cold engine that the cap isn't sealing off the reservoir from the over flow"bottom" tank. There for the coolant flows nearly unrestricted from tank to tank as it heats up. I guess it either overflows due to outtage when it's hot or it evaporates. Anywho I only have to add a gallon every week or so and replacing both tanks and a new 10 pound (from mack) cap didn't help so I just live with it.A design flaw that the Smart people missed even after I e-mailed them about it. P.S. I have also had the modified pipe and hoses added and have never had the truck over heat even out in the mountains of Arizona pulling 48000 pounds of copper up and down those 6 and 8 % grades.
  7. Tell you what fellas I am glad some days I have an OLD RELIABLE truck. 912500 miles and still kicken with very little trouble. I hope that Fix works out for ya...and to hell with commie fornia just don't go out there. I would hate to hear that you got a ticket from those jerks been there done that. Good luck.
  8. I agree with Jerryb oil and coolant are cheaper than parts. Just make sure the coolant either has the additives already in it or put it in your self. If the PH is off it WILL destroy your engine. I have an 01 engine and it doesn't have the coolant conditioner (Filter) on the engine so when I get the filter kit from MACK it comes in little baggies that I have to add to the coolant. If the coolant is rated for heavy duty diesel engines your good...However I have heard you cann't mix colors except the yellow concentrate but I'm not sure.. Good luck.
  9. Hey buddy haven't been on in awhile myself and your blog tells me we're both in the same boat. CEPT my Bulldog is doing O.K. for now. Maybe one day they will get that cat to work as advertised. Anywho our frieght sucks as bad or worse and I have managed to stay out of most of the bad weather. Good luck. MATT
  10. The problem isn't the muffler it's the D.P.F. filter....it's made to look like a big fat muffler but it is the D.P.F. unit. I saw one of the first pre production units several years ago at Mack of Charlotte. I don't think vulva engineers care about the eye appeal value of a truck. That is where they put the damned things on their trucks and that is where it is on Mack. Why do you think they put the vulva battery box on the Pinnacle axle back trucks and that upsidedown mushroom ahead of the fuel tank on the right side on all the sleeper cab models? It is a vulva chassis with a Mack cab and sleeper. Doom on you vulva.

For more information check out the Mack web site they have videos explaining each process and how they work together to reduce emissions. It also has an animated engine showing where all the systems are located and how they function. Pretty neat even if it is a vuva engine.
  12. Hey guys it's been awhile since I've been on. It has to be the wagon your pulling. I have an01 Vision with the 80" highrise sleeper with the 10OD tranny and 3.70 Eaton rears with an aluminium headache rack with 12 rachiting binders and 12 5/16 and 3/8 chains. plus 1 fitted smoke tarp,2 four foot steel tarps and a complete set of snow chains.plus a full tool box in the cab steel corner protectors plastic corner protectors and 5 sets of coil racks..ect. I pull an 04 Reinke aluminum steel combo with one tool box that has fourteen 2" straps and four 3" straps plus the strap ratchets for all and spare 4" straps plus a set of 6' drop tarps, pipe stakes more corner protectors. I weigh in at 31,500 empty with full 95 gallon tanks. My 04 Reinke is a 48' 102" with a 10' 2" spread configuation. I wish it had more of the chain anchors in the deck and some ratchets closer to the tires but over all I have had better luck with it than any other trailer I have ever pulled . Good luck pulling flatbed just get ready to do a whole lot of sitting and waiting on loads. I have sat all day (8 hours or more) to load one lousey coil...(beware of A.K. Steel in middletown Oh.) And never ever try to cheat and use less chains or straps on a load because it will be tarped and no one can see it. A 48,000lbs coil will kill you..or ANY other load that gets awy from you. Be careful and good luck.

  14. The only good thing about cabovers is the turning radius and maybe the feel of Climbing up into one. I have driven many cabovers and loved the turning radius but not the ride. I have seen several Euro cabovers on movies like The Transporter and was appalled at the Roll of the cab when the truck swerved or took a corner. Europe can keep them. Just my two cents. P.S. Besides that price is for a Used truck...go back and read it again Used and still nearly a half million dollars someone is full of bull come on.

GUY while I have not driven one of the newer Cummins equipped trucks my first truck as an owner-operator had an old M-11 cummins and it was a piece of crap.In the three years I drove and then owned the truck It had two heads replaced one cam and dozens of injectors. Not to mention an oil cooler cam sensor and the adjuster bolt for the belt tentioner pulley. I have given the E.G.R. equipped engines a wide berth, I know the Mack asert motors were junk and as time goes by I see most of the E.G.R. EQUIPPED MOTORS are too. Just think if you buy one of the 07 or 2010 motors they have even more crap that can and will break. good luck.

  17. I saw a MACK AUSTRALIA video on youtube about the new titans down under and they already have sleepers, I think volvo is just screwing around with mack in the U.S. as usual. What a bunch of morans those guys are. If your gonna enter the Heavy haul market...ENTER it, dominate it. That is what MACK is famous for, they don't say Built like a Mack Truck for nothing. Yo volvo don't you get it yet. Most of the companies that move over dimentional loads need sleepers especially with jumbo loads. Most oversize loads can not move at night because of the movement permits issued by the state governments. I haul several over dimentional loads a year and almost never load and unload on the same day. Of coarse I mostly only haul over length and over height loads and mostly of legal weight but If I had a tractor that could move over weight loads like the Titan was designed to haul I would still need a sleeper because there is alot of sitting and waiting to get those loads. when loaded alot of the guys get motel rooms at night but with the economy in the shape it is in I bet that most drivers nowadays cann't afford to do that anymore.

  19. DoubleL I don't think that most OTR drivers have ever driven a MACK OTR tractor after all most large companies buy the cheaper trucks. Also To be honest Mack simply doesn't bave the budjet to have the most aerodynamic trucks. I mean look at Volvo there trucks cann't touch frieghtliner or international in the fuel efficency or aerodynamics and as we all know Mack can never be a better truck in volvo's eyes. So why would they allow Mack to have a cleaner more aerodynamic truck. The volvo inferiority complex will not allow that. That is why volvo is trying to dumb down Mack. Crap got off point ...well sort of.. the point is that most drivers haven't driven Mack trucks other than maybe an older R-model or CH having camel back suspention and we all know that most OTR drivers either have forgotten what a real truck is or only know of Mack's off road trucks. Of coarse I wouldn't want camel back on a road tractor either I remember I-40 through Arkansas and I-10 through louisiana back 10 years ago and I'm here to tell yah that 70 mph on those two roads will kill you even with airride. I sound like a Mack cheerleader...maybe I am I own a 2001 Mack CX-613 with an 80inch highrise millinium sleeper on airride. The truck is not only very reliable but very comfortable. It is easy to drive ;everything is right there. right where it should be. TELL YOU what drive ANY OTHER brand and then crawl into an otr Mack tractor. If you don't love it OK but if you never try it you'll never know. Nuff said!
  20. I had a vibration similar to your problem and it was caused by ride height. Mine was to low have that checked. However I realy think it has to do with the new engine...like you said old engine no problem new engine bad vibration.The only good thing is IF you had it installed at a Mack dealer and it tears something up they will fix it. I had the harmonic balancer come off a week after I had a new cam installed. The dealer paid for the tow and the repairs. There has to be a way to test the engine's harmonic balancer to find out if it is bad. Good luck and please let us know what you find and how you got it fixed.
  21. NAPA has never let me down. The best parts man I ever knew worked at my home town NAPA way back when I worked at Crosby Funeral Home in my home town of Alma ga. The guys name was Mr. Burkett and he knew his buisness. At the time WE HAD A 1946 model A John Deere an Allice Chalmers G tractor and a Ford 8N and Mr. Burkett and NAPA always seemed to come through for us and if he couldn't get it he could tell us were to get it. I always try to have Mack filters for my truck but this last time when it was due it was the weekend and I was out on the road so I didn't have much of a choice and wound up with Fleet guard filters. No problems but I would rather have all MACK flters. Matt
  22. Great pictures of some fine old Macks. Dieseldog I have this old movie called HARD DRIVERS that has a very young Sean Connery in it about some hard driving dump truck drivers in England. Looks to be made in the late 50's. Sean Connery wasn't the star..cann't remember the stars name but it was a great old movie. I'm glad to know we have some of our English cousins on here.
