  7. Watched this the other day and yes ot confirms a lot of people are full of crap when they say about what they have seen Along the lines of, I new a bloke that had this happen or that happen as a result of in this case twisted straps A Australian 4x4 internet channel tested steel cable, nylon rope and chain to see which was safer The chain turned out been the safest by a long way The dayton rims and split rims that we read so much about and the so called horror stories associated with those I feel are the same, just stories Paul
  8. I wonder why Mack never mounted the heater like that to begin with ? Great job Paul
  9. Dunno about a gasket but I wouldn't of thought there would be one The dowls I would imagine would be all machined to a precise measurements in the factory and should be interchangeable Thats my thoughts Paul

  12. You can get 10.00 x 20 radial tyres, they just wont be tubeless So most of the bias ply problems are eliminated except for the extra flat tyres Paul

  15. Pretty easy to see why the idea never took off, you would be hard pressed to to find drivers There was one in Australia, maybe more than one for all I know, guessing every country probably had a crack at building them https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/366832332128901795/ Paul
  16. Russia copied all sorts of things from trucks to D7 Caterpillars to DC 3 aeroplanes to even the SuperFortress B 29 If anyone is interested the Russian B29 story is a fascinating story the history channel made a movie on it, Steeling the SuperFortress Dunno if the link will work or not https://youtu.be/i3Tst3cm_A0 I guess all sides of the political world stole ideas and claimed them as their own It is no surprise that the Burma Dodge was copied as the majority would of been in Russian hands at the end of WWII Paul
  17. Looking good So the pin striping on the Freightliner, was it painted or stuck on vinyl ? Lot of these jokers on here wouldn't mind seeing that either, so dont be shy to share pictures of the Freightliner as well Paul

  22. And this from Mike on the heavy haulage Mack "Forgot to say - the heavy haul was Mack as well (although I think it had a Detroit Diesel engine, so not a gold dog on the front)" Paul
  23. Some more And the story in Mike Tee's words We had more than a couple of hundred just in our fleet! At that time though, I don't think there were many more in the country - as we carried a huge spares inventory, if there had been others, I'm sure they would have been around looking for spares. We got a few european Macks passing through, and helped out some of them. We did cover the whole country, firstly based near Dammam on the east coast with our original Aramco contract, then we got the job of carrying all the pipe for the trans Saudi pipeline that went from the east coast over to Yanbu on the west coast - plus just about every destination in between! The dump truck was one of many that we carried up to the new King Khalid Military city site in the north of the country - it was bare desert when I took one of the first convoys up there - we had a huge amount of equipment etc that had to be moved up before they could do any construction. Had to bring in a few Kenworths for the heavy stuff, though just before I left we took delivery of our own custom built heavy haul rig - if memory serves me, it had a capacity well north of 200 tons. One of my jobs was safety manager, so I saw a lot of the country investigating many accidents, most of which were not our fault, and I eventually persuaded the police to accept that! Thoroughly enjoyed my time over there - about 4 years - but got moved on to other projects. regards Mike I must apologize to everyone for my lapse in this Especially to Mike for entrusting me with his photos and story I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, thank you fgor sharing these Mike Paul
