mrsmackpaul replied to mackone's topic in Driveline and Suspension
Permatex and Loctite products are getting harder to get locally as they are getting replaced by cheap crap that looks almost the same but definitely isnt Think it comes from China or somewhere even cheaper if thats possible The good old gasket good, I aviation sealant from Permatex is the proper name and the purple Loctite flange sealant that neved really sets hard are my favorites Permatex copper head gasket spray has had a good result for me Old blokes used silverfrost paint for head gaskets years ago Paul -

One thng I have never done is check anything inside when fixing the leaking O ring So I guess that makes it about 5 things I've never done lol Anyway I reckon check the breather, dunno if you have remote breathers on the fire wall as a lot of Macks out here do Pull them apart and wash the gauze and filter material out in petrol (gas) and blow the line out to the diffs Most times when things like that start leaking the breather is blocked, at least thats my experience We have mud wasps out here amd them buggers block things up in a hour or so given half a chance Paul -
Bugger me, thats a interesting exercise Paul

Kids hey, we never stop worrying no matter how old they get Well done to the lads and I hope it all works out okay with what ever they end up doing I always say to people "the most important thing you can give your kids is a good work ethic" If you have a good work ethic it helps in so many ways that aren't even related to earning a dollar, it gives you the staying power to see things thru no matter how pare shaped they have become Once again well done to Medium and Large, I bet proud as punch Paul

She's all fully blinged up The cone centers on my 58's are cromed and the caps on the trunions were chromed as well once With the chrome nut covers on the spiders it used to look pretty flash.I thought, lame by todays ultra blinged up dumped on the ground huge bumper and sunvisor jobs of today I would like chrome rims and spacers but I dont think the Princess would let me have a bar of it Paul -
That pretty much applies to any western country I dont mind paying tax at all, but dont fritter it away, a lot of hard work and lost sleep goes into earning it Paul

Now that we have more info I will give you my uneducated answer Pumps gotta come off, someone has adjusted it and something has come loose inside and shifted, as was said, ot gradually got worse 38 pounds boost is massive and the fact it is still holding that boost tells me something And it only revs to 2000 with no load This definitely isnt a lack of fuel issue, rather as correctly diagnosed at the start a governor issue Paul
-
First things first When you are loosing pull are you still making smoke ? If your making smoke when the power drops off fuel isnt your issue Should pull like a train at least till 1900 or 1950 Paul

We can buy new chrome rims in Australia for aboit $450 Australian I like the look but Im to tight to drop that much coin for some bling As I would need spacers as well By the time I got 60 rims and 30 spacers thats a lot of coin for some bling Paul -

Looking pretty darn good to me Paul -
Back to the question I dont worry about miles, if your gunna buy second hand its a gamble whether it has 3 miles or 3 million miles It can go kahput in a heart beat and leave you out of pocket big time First thing that has to be right with out a question is the chassis, if it's stuffed its like building a house on crook foundations Next for me is cab Then drive line The reason I say this is drive line parts are plentiful were as cab parts run out of stock quick no matter what the brand as they are updated all the time but drive lines stay fairly similar for mamy years Paul

1943 Mack Sold At Mecum
mrsmackpaul replied to HarryS's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Might be as simple as that, I was thinking the local Mack dealer probably gave it to them 40 years ago because it matches the goldleaf work so well Either way I'm sure they weren't thinking of collectors 40 years later Paul -

Front leaf spring bushings and pin replacement
mrsmackpaul replied to Ricky Beals's topic in Driveline and Suspension
Been as the spring is only single wrapped, or at least it appears to be What I mean by that is for many many years, like 40 years or more 1 spring makes the eye for the shakle and next leaf makes a bigger eye around that eye but loose encase the end of the spring breaks off you still have control Anyway been that it looks like a single wrap around the shackle pin should be in the center I would think, it doesn't look anywhere near the center to my eyes by that photo The bushes looked fairly flogged out, might be just the way the photo was taken Paul -
Front leaf spring bushings and pin replacement
mrsmackpaul replied to Ricky Beals's topic in Driveline and Suspension
A unusual to me and my eyes way of assembling a spring Most times the leafs get shorter as they progress thru the pack towards the axle They must be correct as it isnt the style of spring that can easily disassembled These are more normal So back to the question at hand, if this noise is only recent I would suspect something is broken or loose Jack the truck up a bit to take some weight off the axle (so dont sit the axle stands or blocks under the axle but under chassis or bumper bar or some where similar) and using a long pry bar or tyre lever stick It between the shackles ect and see what you can move I find I need to take some of the weight off the axle but not all, this makes it easier to push and lever here and there and still get a reaction Paul -
Well someones house isnt gunna be the same again for at least a year or two Pups not looking over enthused about all this Paul

Miss Molly aka "Bucket Head" is not impressed with her new found jewellery Has had pink skin on one eye since she was a pup and it gets sun burnt, wind burnt and generally spends most of it's time been quite yuck Anyway she paws away it all the time these days and I noticed it has a flap of skin growing across it So between that and het dew claw the eye isnt getting a chance So off to vets on Monday and I'll see if they can cut the skin off and probably drop the dew claw as well So the "Cone of Silence" was up to rabbit hunting so Bucket head is now like Frankenstein with 3/16 screws and some big flat washers holding it together and in place Gotta love a pooch Paul
