  1. nice truck there Love the long hoods! Greco Const out of mt Prospect IL (Chicagoland) had 2 just like that used for their low boy trucks. V8mack 6 speeds 4.17 rears,Budd front spoked rears small fuel tanks. they were red with blue stripes. Both had rod and main troubles but were fixed. they also had bad cab mounts at the rear as the bad roads. the interior floor beam was bent upwards! just beat the hell out of them. they were up for sale for 10K each about 5 years ago. heard they went to Africa?
  2. looking good. all you need is some nice stainless fenders and dont forget about some old school Mack mudflaps
  3. if you can get that load of wood with it... you could sell the wood off and it would likely pay for the whole truck!!!! not a bad deal if your local..
  4. that was why mack built the rear mount PTO... so that you could spread and did not have to take the aux out of gear .you just turned the pto On then raised the box. the only thing I did like better with the side mount was that it did raise the box faster if you had light loads such as snow or broken concrete. just grab 4th and she went up fast. But as you said the rear mount gave you better overall options. just my .02
  5. Bullhead.....Now thats a heavy haul Titan , it looks like a HD truck and has a sleeper for todays standards. WHY CANT MACK SEE WHAT PEOPLE WANT IN A TRUCK THESE DAYS??? there is nothing bad with a small sleeper but just look around. how many small bunks do you see. not many... that mack cab already has all the rear wall provisions for sleepers yet mack ignores what all the other heavy haul truck Mfg seam to be selling. when was the last time you saw a convoy of 100' windmills pulled by day cabs with a 36" bunk??? thats right never!.... And do we think a driver wants to sit in his seat when he has to take a piss while he is waiting for the wind storm to pass? where does he go to relax when he is stuck on the on ramp for 5hrs?
  6. congrats on the new truck... The CH is a workhorse those on off valves are rare on the new trucks but you will love them when its time to replace a heater hose, air compressor, or have to make a repair to the water system. keeps the water in the engine and you can just drain off the part of the system your working on. When i bought my RS700L It was middle of Febuary and the heater motor was not working.I had to drive from KC to Chicago. I made it to The Iowa 80 and then just could not stand the cold anmore. I pulled in to the truck stop to buy some allagator clips so I could hot wire the blower motor. Man I wished I would have done that 4 hrs before LOL!!!! I could feel my toes again
  7. whats the trip for? new sled puller?
  8. I know of 2 mid 70s RL700L that had the big bad V8 with 6 speeds, sister trucks. both needed rods and mains every 150K. it was a known issue with them. think they were sold at the 300K mark and were on there 2nd set of crank bearings. Just my opinion here but....the stock engine is fine for what it is but if you want more power and still be safe source a E9 and you will be better off.... you will likelybe able to rebuild the E9 cheeper and have more power than the older V8. If price is the issue dont over look the E7 mechinicals. you will louse the V8 bragging rights but its a strong puller and has the torque you need.
  9. never worked around the Medium duty macks. I thought they all had Renault engines in them???? just rebadged as a mack?
  10. There was a program that really made the electronics rub good but the epa put the axe to it. Last I heard was it was almost impossible to get..
  11. funny how one group says they rose while the other said they declined... you keep all your HOS rules for the .20Cent per mile" professional drivers" and I will just drive my truck they way real truck drivers do. End of story
  12. FAIL!
  13. This should be in the VIP section... That way a much better visual can be had....
  14. Donner pass I-80 CA.... looks like the paved it with cobble stones with some 6" trenches to hold the snow.
  15. I rebuild shocks for race cars. and here is what I can add.. The biggest issue with suspension found on old trucks is 3 things. 1) axel weight. (unsprung weight) 2) they have huge tires that have lots of side wall flex. this is a big issue when the side wall flex fights the spring and damper. you will get a shake or excess movement of the suspension. 3)that they used huge springs that take alot to flex (bump)and thus when they try to return (rebound) to their resting position they do so in a violent movement. When the spring is seeing any movment it causes the shock to resist that movement. the faster the movement the harder the shock attempts to resists that motion.now add in the tire flex and the axel has lots of vibrations(simple explanation!). The shock trys to control movement in both directions and is sometimes valved to resist diffrently in one direction vs the other. For most automotive applacations the bump valving is softer than the rebound valving. even tho a shock is constantly absorbing vibrations it is doing it diffrently depending on its direction of movement. An out of balance tire or wheel can be fixed easy with weights. a weak or soft spring on the other hand will often flex more than is needed in a constant fight to find its level resting point. If the shock cant control the spring then you get vibrations and un needed movement. the old leafs did very little to reduce movement. you had 12 springs that all want to do there own thing. even 3 leafs fight each other. if you notice most truck MFG that set up an axel now use 3 or less springs or just a spring to support an air bag. less things moving the simpler to control vibrations. If vibration is the concern try adding a stiffer shock. if ride quality is also the problem swap in a 2 or 3 leaf front spring it will improve ride and should have less vibrations. Trent
  16. Why not source a more modern intake heater. Will work better and less troubles.. just a thought..
  17. I agree Larry. The round nose trucks just dont cut it for me..that one there looks very good. Congrats...
  18. Have you thought what engines you will put in if the 673 gives up on you...
  19. THATS THE KEY RIGHT THERE... Each has their own opinions and I respect that
  20. NOPE...Doesn't matter to me...If I don't like it, I don't read it. Problem solved!
  21. what no you tube vid of the new 3 stick B model...... I want my money back!
  22. If I recall not many modern R cabs had cab mounted exhaust. after the mid 80s most were frame mounted??? If that is the case you will need to save your muffler brackets and interior stiffner brackets then drill and install them in the new cab. it is a tricky job as you can see what your doing. you will need to make a template and then drill the cab hoping that you hit the marks correct!! once you have the interior stiffner plates installed its easy from there. I had to fab up driver side brakets and when I was done they fit better than the factory passenger side did LOL??? What I also did was to make better exhaust supports. the westerns used the 2 bands to go around the muffler and one up at the rain rail but they always ended up making the muffler crooked. I made some fancy new brackets that not only look better but allow you to adjust the stack to keep it straight. if you want pics let me know and I will show you what I was able to do. Trent
