  1. where is this located now?
  2. if you dont run heavy your fine. if you run legal loads. you may want to change them out. If these are vergin tires look for the mfg date stamped in them. even if they are caps I think they may also have a date in them? I have some small cracks in my tires on my company truck and we run them to the end of the year then replace. just keep an eye on them and keep them up to proper air press ..
  3. they sure do turn heads. every time I pull up to a job site with my RS I find at least one old school operator that jumps off the machine just to chat about the Western Macks. One thing I have noticed is that everyone asks me if it has the big V8. or if it was built with one. Im half glad it is a basic inline 6 but know the V8 would be fun. Im still searcing for a cheep 12 speed that I can swap in. and if the money is right maybe a E7400 mechanical??? may even put some "softer" superliner front springs just to upgrade its ride. I was hauling onsite again yesterday with a v8 superdog and that front end was like butter over the same bumps that my RS700 madeit feet harsh. It could have been the extra weight of the V8 smoothing them out? i know keep dreaming and it may come ture.. then to make the day bad I had to slip seat into a 2001 pete. it rode nice but was like a wet sponge in the dirt. had to bang gears at the slow speeds as the truck was all over the place. sometimes to soft of a truck is worse than a solid firm truck... ok thats my rant Trent
  4. our first sled pulling truck ,a.k.a #5 ....was owned by a friends dad, he gave us the truck just for sled pulling and some laughs. it had a bad frame and rusty cab. A guy buying up old macks for export had came thru the yard and bought a bunch of 80s R models. he wanted the sled truck but we said he had to wait for the end of the season to get it. The owner said the exported was going to pay him 6k for the thing and he agreed to find us a replacement truck to keep pulling with. very thankfull that he has help us with the sled trucks,,,, anyways the sled truck was sold to the exporter with the pump calibrated/turned all the way up. I can only imagine what the next driver of that truck thought the first time he got the keys and pulled a load with it. LOL I bet that R model was well known after it arrived to where ever it went!!! i can just see it now doing wheelies up the hillsides... RIP #5
  5. One more pic..sorry hatcity. No rug burns in this one either.LOL.
  6. Thanks guys.. it was fun..sorry about the bad title of the thread. Rhasler.... The headlights panels are just painted flat black.the lights are factory with the oldschool stainless half moon covers . They just look fully covered by the reflection of the stainless..
  7. Worked the old dog on site all day. Hauling out clay and bringing back recycled stone from the crusher. Job site had been ongoing for 2 years and the guy running the show is the owner of the yard where I park my truck...its a large office complex that will be converted into a car dealership. Scaled out as high as 95,000lbs with stone rode like a caddy with the new air ride cab. Got her a little dirty but it was good to get to work her again.. dropped the trailer at the job site and bobtailed back home..
  8. If its a fontain no slack I don't think it can be adjusted..just replace worn parts.??? If it has the bolt sticking out the front that is what will tighten it up
  9. Grand rock is a good company, also try the Chrome shops. They sell all the under the truck stuff that's not chromed..Iowa 80 may have it too. But if you have any good tractor parts shop near you they can get it for you...
  10. I have seen rotted out cab,cracked rail, 300/6 speed/4.17 macks sell for 7k .. Trent
  11. Barry any reason I can't log in at my home..for the last 2 months I have to send from my phone..
  12. Congrats rob...
  13. Yep still there.. it has a larger upper tank and no provisions for the x brace..
  14. And had lots of aluminum parts. If I recall correctly My rs700l was 15,600 when it left the factory.
  15. I took a set a radiator support rods off a valueliner that is heading for scrap. The rods bolt to the frame rail and capture the radiator sides using a L bracket that is welded to the radiator cage. All I had to do cut and weld L brackets to the radiator cage and drill holes in then so the support rods could run through them. Then I removed the factory X brace that held the radiator to the firewall. Last to do is install the hood rollers to the firewall so the hood and cowl don't rub..I took the truck out last night with the stock X brace and she rode good but you could still hear and feel vibrations. Tonight I removed the X brace and Omg did she quiet down. All in all this was an easy install just a lot of test fitting under the truck..
  16. Yea first truck I drove was a r model with solid mount. Wssent that bad empty but I was also 21 and dident care...Here is a pic of it.
  17. He was just in a higher gear than he needed to be when driving in the lot. You hear the govenor trying to compensate for the low rpms. Backing up he is just in a low gear..sounds normal to me..
  18. Early 80s macks were hard to find with air ride. I think it started becoming conmon in the mid to late 80s but some fleets just kept buying the rubber mount cabs. As they were cheeper. I have noticed that Macks with air cabs lasted longer than the hard mount mack cabs .
  19. At highway speed/rpm it only takes about 30 sec to raise the box. By the time you notice it is up its likely is to late..
  20. I installed the superliner air ride cab setup today. I used the old frame perches that held the stock arch bar. Made a beam to hold the back of the lower air bag plate. Then bolted a L brace to the frame crossmember to capture the other end of the plate. The upper part of the air bag bracket simply bolts to the bottom of the cab.ran new air lines and set the leveling valve to my liking....8 hrs later and she is a much smoother ride. No more bucking or violent shaking when you go over a bridge. Bobtailing is not a nightmare anymore. The old cab brace was cracked in 3 spots. 4of the 8 bolts snapped off with little force when trying to remove them 2 of the 8 were already sheared off . The frame crossmember in that location was also cracked near the frame bolts...that's how nice she rode LOL..... I just need to fab up to radiator stays and remove the x brace..
  21. That's a classic..reminds me of the many amt ertl 1/25 scale models I built as a kid. I say 187" wb 300 with a 6 spd??? Pretty common r model spec ..It may be sitting low in the back if it has cab air ride and the air leaked out. If it is sagging and is solid mount look at the cab brace in side the cab, lower rear wall. If its curved its bent from a life on bad roads.hopefuly its just lea ky bags. Looks solid and a fair price..
  22. Yea..mchery co fair..ozinga concrete brings a kw filled with something because the sled can't stop it LOL
  23. Had our sled truck out last night made it to 2nd place out of 11 trucks.. She had more in her just lost the traction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEzJ2tLQWWk&feature=youtube_gdata_player Here is one from 2 weeks ago.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFjc0CHGY1k&feature=youtube_gdata_player
