Replacing Pinion Seal B-61
Freightrain replied to thomastractorsvc's topic in Driveline and Suspension
Not a horrible job to do if you have a big enough bar to get the nut loose. Then it's all downhill. -
This looks beter:

Not sure why the nickname "pot" for a cattle trailer.........but this city boy has heard it before and picked up on it. Maybe Mike will fill us in on the reason? -

The small one was ALOT easier. The frame rails fit on my mill, you could move stuff around with just your fingers LOL!!! Nut'n like the real thing LMAO!! -

I know he had a real bad time with the R model cabs. Seems whoever was going to duplicate them was screwing with him. Guess maybe he got it straightened out? I never had any bad dealings with Joe myself. Everything I have got moved upstairs and never got back to it. BUT, in talking with a fellow this past weekend at our big show in Ashland we might try to get one of the scale truck clubs to come next year? We have plenty of building to use for their cities. I think it would go over great! -

I was wanting to make a spread axle too. Thought that with the long frame truck would look pretty cool. Well, you can see that never got anywhere. Have too many FULL SCALE projects to deal with LOL!! There is a guy in NJ that builds kits for people. He has done some very unique trucks through the years. Haven't been in contact with him for a few years now. Last thing I got from him was a billet KW grille for my truck. Very, very nice piece! He even built a B model sleeper cab a few years back. Pretty sure he did an R model too. Can't say what the quality was like in person, but in pictures they looked pretty good. At least for a 1/14 scale kit they looked presentable. You can see the grille laying there: -

Ugh...I have one of them money pits too LOL!!! I bought mine back in mid 90's, when they first came out. I stretched mine about 5 yrs ago: Built my own carrier bearing assembly. I have a couple flat bed kits(homemade), but never finished any of it. The truck is about 95% done, but are they ever???? Did I mention they are a money pit??? They stuff that you can buy for these will make your real truck choke on diesel. It's crazy. One guy was working on a real working air ride suspension. I still the true original though: Though it has come a longggg way since day one: Mid 80's What is looks like today: was starting to rebuild it and lost interest about 15 yrs ago. Surprisingly, the body on this truck is the SAME body they used on the AMT Kenworth back in the day. I tried the cab and hood from the kit and it lined up nicely with the floorpan. -

Hooking up electric brakes on my MH

It's white with a red knob on the control. It is a Warner brand. I know I've seen others out there too, and I think they were MUCH cheaper than the Warner. http://www.etrailer.com/Brake-Controller/Warner/1300-80.html?feed=npn&gclid=CPnlruup_bcCFe9cMgodlCgARw -
Made it home................ugh. What a weekend. 3 days of 90* heat and sun(not a bad thing for a show, but it was brutal to work in it). Glad I got the a/c unit put on my trailer. Made a nice retreat and sleeping comfort. Dan Van Ness with his Superliner and LM on the back. Lamar's General(for JT), got a Cummins in it: Short video of the Light show Saturday night. Not alot of trucks left by that time of the evening(many left for hotels), but it was nice anway: http://s259.photobucket.com/user/Freightrain66/media/2013%20Ohio%20Vintage%20Truck%20Jamboree/2013-06-22_21-35-55_511_zps86a20f71.mp4.html In line for the truck pulls: Got to drive this ol White that is owned by Jim Conrad(NEO chapter member) It was like driving the old fashion cars at Cedar point when I was growing up. Had a few extra pedals to operate, but it gave you that kinda feeling(with authentic sound) with the heavy manual steering. No metal rail to steer it for you though LOL! Jim has the one behind it also. Very, very nice restorations.

Vinmeister....the LMSWJ has a 300 supercharged Cummins. The W has a 318 leaker and straight pipes! Just got back to my spot with my truck. The let us pull while they set up for the show later. My ol dawg went 263ft. Not hateful for only 187 hp. I think someone was taking video. I hope so!! I had a blast and could see doing this again. Dont want to tear up equipment though.

Did you get the air over electric controller? They are FAR superior to the electronic versions out today. Those new ones that "ramp up" power are a PITA. Very hard to use going downhill without constantly readjusting it. Beautiful truck! -
Just plead ignorance and get back on the road......lol.

Look at all the kickstand Macks with 3208s in them. Is there titles with these vehicles?

There is not alot to those air cylinders. I pulled mine apart to clean the sludge out. Just a leather seal if I recall.

Just by the picture I can tell it is not a P engine by the shape of the intake. Too bulky looking compared to mine which is a split design.

FYI, semi trucks pulling 32 foot camping trailers don't fit behind Waffle House in Carlisle, just in case you think that it looks like they do. I've been in some places with my 40ftr that I shouldn't be. Got some bad directions once to a guys house and ended up having to back up through a neighborhood til I found a side street I could turn around onto. Ugh. Remember Leslie post the other day? Ya. It is impossible to tell that your trailer tire is shredded while driving a straight-piped Detroit riding on Rayco spring suspension on the Pa turnpike until someone tells you. Ditto that. Going to Indy years back I had a fellow yell on the radio that I was loosing one. I now remember to check the mirrors more often to check tires(though I do check lanes constantly I don't always look down at the tires). You really do need throttle return springs on the governor. With JT as my witness, I left the show with two, wound up on the turnpike with none. It's an amazing feeling to have the loud pedal fall out from under your boot. Thanks to Tim Hoover for the zipties. Yup, had that happen on the B. Luckly I was just in town when it happened. Fell to the floor and scared the beejesus out of me. I pulled the shutoff and rolled into a parking lot. Using some wire I had, I reattached the spring. Purchased a new spring and have been good for 10 yrs. Always put nice mirrors on your truck, mine suck something awful. Nothing worse then not being able to see behind you. More and BIGGER mirrors the better. Route 22 from Altoona to Indiana county is mostly uphill, seriously uphill. Remember my PA road thread? Ya, them little roads SUCK. Nice seats are important. Yes. Front drive axles that leak 90w create lots of cleaning work on your new trailer. I cracked an oil line once and didn't know it. I got to the race track to find the whole front and passenger side of my trailer DRIPPING in oil. UGH!!!! What a freak'n mess that was. Lucky the track owner had some line and was able to fix it easily. Cleaning was not so easy. Lots of simple green. -
The hard part is putting names to all the faces............. Of course the Feds will have no problem finding the bad guys LOL!!!
