  1. Ken, try this: When needing to shift, ease off the fuel and start pushing on the shifter towards neutral. You'll feel it come out when the power is finally unloaded. Go with it, don't dilly dally or it might rake and grind things. No doubt with a cabover and all the monkey motion linkage it will take more finesse to get handy at it. Work on gettin it out of gear, that's half the battle. Once you get the "feel" of how the shifter works, you can work on the rest of it. I don't watch the tach, that's too much to deal with> It is all by sound/feel.
  2. With Mack boxes, you had to determine if it was a SINGLE overdrive or DOUBLE overdrive. That would determine if you had skip 5th Direct. It's kinda confusing, but you have to look at the ratio's to see the issue with reduntant ratio's and the reason you skipped gears. Have to look, I think Mack swaps the sticks around depending on which box. I think the Duplex has the compound on the far stick? The TRi and Quad are on the near stick.
  3. Pick up a jar of peanut butter. The bottom is sucked in 1/2 way up the jar, reducing the internal volume by TONS! Looks the same on the outside, but no where near the same volume. But, costs the same(or more). Ice cream is the same, no where near 1/2 gal cartons. Just noticed last week at the store, as I was getting my package of Double Stuff Oreos. I've noticed the size of the package dwindling over the last year(cookie count is way down per package). Now, they brought out the "family size", which is what you USED to buy to begin with. Of course the cost is about 40% more then the smaller package they have now. Like everything, you get less for more.
  4. I usually never clutch at all, unless I'm on a grade and need to unload it to get it out of gear easier and quicker then leaving off the throttle only. Beyond that, I just float in/out. I couldn't image having to use the clutch that much, day in/day out. My head hurts thinking about it. I've got strong legs, that is not an issue.
  5. I know the truck well. Spend a weekend with him and his wife last year at our big show in Ashland Ohio. I'm horrible with names, but very nice people and very nice truck. His wife even drove it in the slow truck race. He put on quite a show trying to get it back on the trailer on Sunday. Had a time getting it over the hump onto the drop dropdeck. Had to really get a run(going BACKWARDS) to get it to crest and not just slip the tires. Had me nervous!
  6. Yup, that's my grocery getter. Summit Racing started in a guys garage about 30 yrs ago. I remember the first catalogs back in the early 80's. They've grown, and grown, and grown. They dabble in about anything(recently they started into quad parts and accy's)
  7. Guess I'm lucky and am still pretty fit for my age. No dead giveaways that I might have issues. I know a few people with Cpap machines, and they seem to like them and agree they sleep alot better.
  8. I used to frequent his site til about a year ago. Just incredible what he makes out of steel. Throw in some artistic license, but overall it is really neat stuff.
  9. Well, ya, now they offer it in 4 flavors, so it does depend on where you plan to drive.
  10. I like my dual stacks. But, there again, I like a plain stock truck with one pipe too. Kinda two sided I guess. Since B's didn't come with two, I had my buddy bend up a mirror set of passenger side brackets to use on the left side. Makes it look like the factory put them there. Not the half assed way some do it. I did have to put another short passenger side tank on to allow for the stack though.
  11. I'm not for sure how the option for the oil cooler works? Mine doesn't have it. When I went to switch to spin on, I had to find a spin on set up for NON cooler. Mine came from an R Model, Phil from Global traders had it.
  12. As long as you are "normal", you get a 2 yr cert. If you have high BP then it goes down to 1 yr, 6 mo, 3 mo depending on your condition. Your license is good for 4 yrs, so every two years you have to send in your new med cert to DMV. They are giving everyone til Jan 2014(2 yrs after they decided to start this) to allow everyone to get through their 4 yr cycle of licenses. By Jan 20104 you MUST have a copy of your med cert to the DMV or you loose your CDL rights.
  13. That sounds cheap for a running V8 and trans. Or is that just me? Not that it isn't expensive to rebuild, but sounds like scrap price.
  14. I was wondering, should I give DMV my new med card now? Or wait til July when my license is up? Will DMV make me buy a new license for a couple months?? They don't know when my current card is up, and they only want it added by Jan 2014. Guess I shouldn't worry now.
  15. Finally get PB to allow me to link a pic..... This is just after I put the spin on filters a couple years back. Mine never had oil cooler, and luckily was able to find(that's to Phil) a spin on without it. I don't have a pic available that shows the bottom connection. The copper is just a "U" shape.
  16. Mines just bypassed with big copper pipe. Runs just fine, doesn't get hot even with me beat'n the snot out of it.
  17. Don't they make redline tires anymore?? I think that is the only thing that isn't red? BTW, it is a beautiful truck!
  18. I've thought of putting small amber lights on my mirrors. Maybe not turn signals, but just something to glow in the night. I tried a few of those really small LED grommet mounts and like them. Might get a few more, they are about $6 a piece.
  19. This is a federal thing. By 2014 it has to be attached to your drivers license(you have to mail or drop it off to DMV). I've never been asked in the last 10+ yrs, but heaven forbid you don't have it when they do. But, that won't matter anymore as you have to send it in to keep your CDL. Oh, it has to be from a "register" physician. Not just Joe BLow down the street. Thus the reason I went to CVS, it was simple. Walk in, no appt necessary.
  20. The bridge is short enough, you'd only be 6ton as each axle crossed. No problemo LOL!
  21. Walked in this morning and presto----no one in line. Got it done. $104 complete with urine test(that's $25 of it). Man...super cute, young lil blonde nurse working. Would let her do another hernia check anytime she wants LOL!!!!! It's funny, she had to call in a "witness" for that test. Ok, so in comes another young girl from the pharmacy LOL!! The girl from the pharmacy was peeking(though they are only suppose to be standing, looking in the corner). I caught her and smiled at her. She turned around real quick LMAO!!! Of course my BP was high(ya, would be with her around). Had to take it 3 times to get it down to "normal". Was 144 first time, then 152 second. One last try was 133(told her so). All in all, she was very professional. I thanked her and she thanked me. Well, life is good. Back to square one. Ken, I suggest coming to N. Canton for your test
  22. They are open Sun 10-5:30 so I might run over tomorrow morning before I head out the garage and work on race car. Maybe there won't be a long line??
  23. Tom, ya, the old Gullivers. Bought out by Pilot? It's been bulldozed and building new(haven't actually seen it, but was told it's gone). I'll call that Chiro or stop at CVS this coming week. Want to get it handled before the 21st.
  24. Damn, that's lookin' GOOD!!! Love the original old school paint scheme. Keep it "original" looking!!! Don't go all gansta on us! I want these for my truck: (wish I had some spare cash) http://www.discoverlivesteam.com/discoverforsale/forsale/1_haring/index.htm
  25. In Ohio, you can also chose 1, 2, 3, 4 depending on what you are doing. I want to keep mine at 1 as I do go outta state, though I'm not "commercial". No sense in doing it half assed. I just wondered if anyone has been questioned about it when they were at DMV.
