  1. Not a Mack or even a big truck. but I got a new toy none the less. It's a 1975 Chevy LUV. Has a 350 chevy small block and auto trans. in it. I plan to make a street /strip truck with it. Something to cruise to some meets with and run the 1/4 mile at the track with.
  2. Just a frustrated man that never got to be a truck driver, so he built his own out of a dually. Also, this is another reason there should be an IQ test before you can buy a welder. lol
  3. Many of the truck cranes today are like that. I wouldn't want to blow out a left steer tire.
  4. I drive a Granite tractor and yes, I also wonder why there are very few Granite tractors. For one thing, for whatever the reason is, Mack sells the Granite as a straight truck and in the fine print somewhere at the bottom it says "can also be configured as a tractor." So maybe they don't really want to for some reason.
  5. Well, I am in So Cal. where it doesn't get REAL cold. I idle until the oil psi gauge comes up, then set the cruise at about 800-900 RPM. I start moving around the yard as soon as the air tank is full, keeping the RPM low. Hook to my trailer and drive it easy, shifting early with a light throttle pedal until the temp gauge is up near normal. Then I drive it like I stole it. lol
  6. Yes M8 505hp. 18 speed with a super low reverse, and 4:30 rears. The rears need to be much lower. I only run in CA, and don't need to go more than 55mph. The truck seems like it's capable of 85mph now. It's a waist of gearing/power for what I do. But that was my companies fault, not Mack's.
  7. This is the truck I drive now. Does a pretty good job, but needs lower rear end gears to pull the heavy loads.
  8. They look like they took the back end of a loader, spun it around to the front of a truck frame, and added a windshield above it. I think they are ugly. About the only ones I see out here in so Cal have the local CAT dealer's name on the door, delivering their own equipment.
  9. My daily driver. 1997 Power Stroke. 163K. Banks stuff installed.
  10. There were I think 3 trucks used to make the movie. One was warehoused for many years and came out to the ATHS national show at the California Speedway, Fontana, CA. in spring 2004. One of the Duel trucks was auctioned off at that show. The guy that won it was pretty hammered and wanted someone to move it out to the parking lot for him, so he could get it picked up the next day. So my buddy hopped in and drove it out. He was going up and down the isles in the lot, throwing little, spooky revs, and freaking everyone out. It was cool to see it in motion.
  11. OK, here are a couple pics. This is what I drive now and the kind of loads I pull. That is the biggest I pull. 220K LBS. And the new Macks. 1 will be going to our Fontana yard, I'm told. I found out they have 4:30 rear gears. So I think they will pull the load pretty well. I plan to take the aluminum wheels off the KW in the back ground for the drives. I just wish it had a visor on it. They have the cheesey little square cab lights on the roof, and our 3 new regular duty Macks have the round/bullet style lights. So if the screw holes are the same, I'm going to do a little inter company transfer. LOL
  12. Thank you. I'll get some pics up eventually. I need to correct myself. The truck is a GU813. The company has the pinks and registrations all screwed up right now. Our main PA office bought the trucks for several yards all over the US. Things got mixed up of coarse, as to which truck went where. So once it has a license plate on it, it will go somewhere, (local dealer probably) to get ramps and a wet kit put on. Then I should be able to drive it and post some cool pics of it.
  13. Hello boys and girls! I guess I'm here to join the Mack club. I work for a crane company in so cal, and I haul the cranes around. I have always had Petes and KWs with double frames and two speed rear ends and big Cat in the Pete and a big Cummins in the KW. Well, they bought me a brand new Mack Granite, GU815 (I think). I do like that Mack still puts the mirrors on the doors instead of up on the A pillar. It has an 18 speed, I'm not sure about the rear gears, and the M8 engine. I pull oversize loads over the CA mountains grossing 220k sometimes. Do you guys think the 505 HP M8 is going to do well with this much weight? It's too bad they didn't get me the Titan with an M10, (mack's true heavy haul tractor) but whatever. I don't pay for it. I just hope this Granite will do what I need. So tell me what you think. Ron.
