lube oil return port on front housing at 4:30 . match front cover on reinstall  not any good now but ; I had a 600 lb torque wrench. gave it to someone since moving I had no need for it. challenge is thinking of who now :: can't remember who.

I have another friend that has a big torque wrench.  I borrowed it years ago when I replaced the rear springs in the truck before I stretched it and out air ride in it.

🤔 now if you can just find a tall shifter tower in good shape......

I need a tower.  I hear there are variations in height and if I get a tall one, it will have a short throw and be good for my set up because I will cut it to fit.

Freightrain??  I think mark was being a smarty pants...

😂 a fair assumption, but I wasn't.  An old one out of a Autocar or 359 Brockway will make it like a Competition Plus inside the cab. The tallest new ones help, but those old ones were taller. Unfortunately by now, gone or worn out to the point of not getting the effect.

Ya, but I also have had this brief conversation before about certain models being taller which would have a shorter throw(ratio) and that would help as Mark notes.

I wonder if something from like a new Western Star would help?  Those cabs are TALL!

Ill have to look for it, but somewhere I have Eaton shift tower catalog (pdf). Yes, they did make different towers which is not the same as different shift rods. The towers have a "spud" where the isolator and rod are attached.

I think you said this transmission came off of a stationary power unit. Did you see the the setup before is was separated? I'm curious what engine was on it and what it was used for. I have never seen a stationary power unit with a 13 speed transmission mounted to it. All the ones I have seen just have a hand clutch and v belt pulleys or a hydro pump. Never seen one with a transmission. I wonder if the idea was to be able to somehow shift it under load or was it to preselect a specific gear before engaging the clutch depending on load and how much horsepower you needed?

I have, but not with a 13 or 18 but there is no reason they couldn't be used.

Vemeer uses a big Cat with a (I think) 9 speed Eaton on the rear to drive large "mud pumps" for horizontal drills.

I guess it is cheaper and more compact than building a purpose built gear reduction on the rear of the Cat.

I think it all depends on the output speed desired.

The units I saw were brand new at the factory.

IIRC it only used one gear and neutral as well as the automotive style clutch.

It has been a few years but my memory is that it a plate over the shift rod that prevented it from being placed in other gears other than one it was supposed to be used.

No idea what it came from, just a stationary power unit.  Yes guy said it had air/hyd? clutch and it was locked in one gear.

Friend sent me his Eaton part number S2130 that he used in his autocar.  Say it is a nice short throw in his little cab.
