1961 B model 673 Engine - races when started.

Recommended Posts

Engine was running as expected and then three weeks later when started it went to max rpm and will not idle. throttle linkage was checked and all appropriate still will not start and run it at idle. It’s not a runaway just goes to max RPM. Have to stall eng to stop the shut off will not stop it.

Flat, smooth piece of metal or wood--cover up the air intake and it'll shut down.

one thing to keep in mind, much like the emergency shut off on the DD's ;; it called emergency for a reason. too many times of use it will suck in the seals on a turbo. engine at over high speed wants air from some where  till it starves.  a pair of vise grips flatting out the fuel supply line in some cases will be faster than taking off the intake hose to access the intake, NOT saying the flat piece is wrong;; anything to shut down a run away fastest .in total agreement  regards to the plunger being the cause.

I agree with Larry.. Your picture of Sept 13 shows a lot of GOOP around the springs, is there more elsewhere???? I would get this stuck one loose and get the lube changed and let it run for a while before parking it for the winter.. A long inactive period might just set things up worse??????????????

remember if you are going to block the radiator with cardboard ; do it slowly. have seen a cardboard thrown in front of a running radiator because "it was cool to see it stick there" . the quick negative draw will bend a fan blade into the radiator. more with  the plastic fans then the older metal ones.

AI don't think a 61 B model is going to have that kind of a fan problem, how about when the shutters are shut in cooler weather?   terry:MackLogo:
