mackcl96 106
BC Mack,,,,, already posted this but what a story with this one1954 Mack B30, This is probably the finest B-30 around. It is powered by the original 330 cubic inch 6-cylinder Mack “Magnadyne” gasoline engine. The small engine develops 122 horsepower giving the truck a top speed of 38 miles-per- hour. It"s equipped with a 5-speed transmission and a selective positive dual or single forward axle drive (controlled by a lever in the cab). The truck is 25"5” in overall length with a 194” wheelbase and it is fitted with 9.00 * 20 tires. What makes the truck unusual is the size of the tandem rear-ends, a configuration normally seen on heavier-duty trucks (with larger engines). This B-30 was delivered on March 9, 1954 through the Omaha Branch to Mack Truck Sales of Des Moines who, in turn, delivered the truck to Watson Brothers Transportation – Heavy Hauling Division (in Omaha, Nebraska). The truck was fitted with a winch and a boom for loading and off-loading heavy objects. Watson ordered it with the heavy-duty rear tandem configuration specifically for this purpose. As for power, the truck didn"t need a large diesel engine. The small gas engine was perfectly suited to provide power for the winch and to move the truck itself from place-to-place in the Omaha area.We purchased the truck from a former Watson employee in the late 90's and restored it. The B-30 was very straight and rust-free. It was/is a very low mileage truck. During restoration we discovered that the truck"s well- weathered Watson Brothers “buff” was not the original color; it was factory-painted blue (the same color it is now). The paint and body work was performed by the Charlie Miller Body Shop in Sioux City, IA. The engine was overhauled and the truck was completely rewired and reupholstered. And we replaced the original boom and winch with a new stake body.
