LED Headlights

Recommended Posts

Wow...bet those would light your world up. My current Halogens are still candles at night, especially in the rain. The high beams are super bright, but the low beams are just slightly above 6v sealed beams. If it wasn't for my Perlux, I would be driving blind.

Currently don't have $1K for a pair of headlights. :whistling:

If you're going to buy LED headlamps, you're better off going with a name brand that can give you nationwide after-sales support (ease of warranty replacement). That would be Truck-Lite. They brought LED headlamp technology to the US market.

And note the price difference, $521.50 (each) for the no-name brand versus $200 for the Truck-Lite.

From their website: "7" Round headlight w/ 20" cable and connector. Galvanized closed-back body. Truck-lite LED bulb. Replacement for Mack trucks."

So they are offering their headlight bucket with Truck lite bulb. Still at $521 each I'm not in the market. Sorry. Adding that kind of cost to a new $100K truck is not a big deal. Adding $1K to a 50 yr old truck is not so budget friendly.

They are not selling Tiawan knock offs, they appear to be OEM manufacturers. SLC is their distributor to the aftermarket.

I won't bash them for trying to offer their product to a market like ours. Only problem is we don't have the funds to spend on items of this nature.

Just to clear up any misconception, these are GE bulbs that are direct replacement for the GE bulbs currently installed on most trucks. Those old assemblies were also manufactured and still are manufactured by ATC Lighting and Plastics.

Thank you for the post. You are correct that these are not knock offs, they are GE LED replacements and ATC Lighting and Plastics are OE manufacturers for Mack. Truck Lite was for a while the only game in town for LED and do fit into the ATC assemblies but now GE has brought out the LED and we have a long history with GE. Bulbs are pricey but the quality, warranty and support is there. Over time the price will come down.

for less than $100 you can convert your old yellow halogens to H4 bulbs. Just type in H4 conversion and your number of bulb that you are using. LEDs are nice for markers and tail lights...but H4 is way cheaper and better for driving lights. Just converted my dump and am very very happy.

Autopal is the housing i used.. the same as hella and bosch but cheap. H4 bulbs are at every napa, advance etc. Just plug n play.

  • 1 year later...

Been sitting on the fence for a year or so mulling over this technology.... the company I work for has been using them for about two years and I've never heard a single complaint... money is a big issue for me and some will question the cost vs benefit..

I'm going with the Speaker 8800 4x6 low beam direct replacement.....

http://www.jwspeaker.com/other/led-headlamps

on the net for about $325 each

I was watching for a sweet deal on a pair of low beams just to try out and found some privately that were cheap enough for my budget, high beams maybe later but for now our company has the led's just in low position and regular lamp for high as it is only a city operation so I'm copying that set-up. I have driven same vehicles with and without modification and it is a vast improvement over the 'glow worms'...

will try them out in the MH early next year.... when I get back into part2 of "my summer job"..
