Strong interest in Big Cat at Brisbane Truck Show
HeavyGunner replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
"Powered by the indomitable Cat C15 engine which satisfies Australia’s emissions regulations without the need for complex SCR or EGR emissions technologies," And yet another example of how our EPA's over zealous regulations screw the U.S. Working class. It's ok if anyone else pollutes but if we do it's better to ship our jobs somewhere else where they don't have stringent epa laws impinging on them. Nothing against Aussies just our government. -
Happy birthday Slpwlkr. Hopefully the day treated you well.

Beautiful trucks, I've always wanted to swap a first gen cummins and running gear under one of those ole power wagons.

Well said David. Call me crazy but the world (U.S. Included) is in a heap of trouble and likely won't settle down until we have a Third World War and hopefully the allies band together again and can win it. I hate to be all doom and gloom but anytime I look at the news nothing points toward the world gaining common sense, we got politicians running a wild spending Monopoly money that they approved to have printed while they choke our economy down to nothing by ridiculous laws and regs and over taxing big bad business' and try to make any person who disagrees with their point of view out to be a racist, homophobe or religious nut or whatever the latest pc buzz word is.

NTSB again calls for mandatory data recorders
HeavyGunner replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
And thats exactly what the electronic logs that we run do. They plug right into the trucks ecm and log everything you do, what gear your in, if your seat belt is on what rpm your running, your avg and current fuel mpg. I'm not sure if other elogs do all that but ours does so I guess my point is IF other elogs record everything like the one I run does isn't this new push for yet another recording device redundant? -
NTSB again calls for mandatory data recorders
HeavyGunner replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Aren't the electronic logs like peoplenet that are soon to be required be considered data recorders since they record EVERYTHING you do? Jack, recorders like peoplenet don't hurt you if you are doing everything right but they are a real PITA when it comes to desk jockeys and bean counters questioning your every move and you have to try and figure out what you were doing the previous month on that exact day so you can explain what exactly you were doing. I hate that part of it. I go into fields (literally) to pick up my load. Weather will dictate how you drive to get to the load. We have 4 way lockers, 10sp and a DD15 and I gross 131k, if it's rainy chained up and lots of go pedal and wheel spin compared to dry days. Peoplenet's event data log marks "sudden deceleration" recorded whenever you let off the throttle when spinning in mud or on snow and ice. I have to explain (as well as all the other employees) to people up the food chain and in another state from me what's going on. They never seem to get it and I feel that I am always under a microscope being scrutinized by people who have never done or seen my job or workplace and don't understand that we run 365 days a year no matter what the weather is. I do understand where it can save your butt but I always cringe whenever any kind new laws come out for truckers because it always bites us in the ass some how someway. -
I was listening to the Rockies vs Braves game today and there was an advertisement that said (to the best of my memory) that cole fired power plants have grown 150% over the last 100 years and emissions have gone down 90% !!! Then the ad said something about investing in clean coal technology instead of more regulations. How do people miss or ignore facts (I'm assuming the ad was correct since it was on nationwide broadcast) like this and continue to choke any progress in this country?
-
Not sure I'd hire those South Dakotan hay haulers. Something about that town sounds suspicious to me.
-
America doesn't need coal fired or nuclear power plants OD, we have wind power LOL. The most unpredictable kind of intermittent power you can get but they are still building wind farms all over Montana and most of the power goes to Mexifornia and some to Canada.

It always amazes me that the epa over regulates us to the point where our economy is hurt and we no longer produce anything. But it's ok if we let China, India or Russia the biggest polluters produce the product and pollute to high heaven then sell the same product back to us. It drives me nuts that people can't figure that we can produce everything cleaner than 90% of all other countries but our epa screws us by over regulation and America continues to fall behind in everything.

Wow, he's actually doing something productive. Never would've believed it with out a pic.

Backing into your driveway may soon be illegal in one US city
HeavyGunner replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
So they are supposed to stop in the state road then back into their driveway? Seems to be hazardous either way. -

My dad had 2 timberjack skidders with detroits in them. One had 353 the other had a 453 in it. Lots of fond memories of sitting on his lap with ear muffs over ear plugs to help with the noise.

Couldn't hardly imagine softball size hail. We would have lots of dead cows if we got softball sized hail.

Right about dusk (10:15) last night we had a horrible storm roll in. About that time my mother in law with severe copd panics because there is wind and starts having breathing trouble. After 10 minutes of trying to reason with her that every thing is alright and to calm down and take the final 3 steps to my truck so we could get her home rather than call an ambulance we ended up calling an ambulance. It took them 10 min or so to get to us. While we were waiting on the porch with her my phone made a noise I never heard before. I pulled it out and I was getting an EAS alert telling me there is a tornado alert. Shortly after that the ambulance showed up and the storm did too. Massive hail started hitting us, I won't say it was falling since it was flying sideways. I've never had hail that literally hurt so bad I that I wanted to quit helping load up my mother in law in e ambulance. But being the great son in law that I am i helped cover her head with a coat and load her up in the ambulance. She's as fine as she can be with her condition now. Rained all night and still raining here. No power since 5 am or so. Got my generator running the house now. Life is good hope everyone had a safe holiday. http://www.krtv.com/story/29476330/tornado-warning-for-chouteau-hill-and-liberty-county

You have a great fourth too Paul. What an awesome thing you are doing for the vets. Very cool.

Maybe this will cheer you up OD, saw it when I went to billings with my wife last week. When I ran back with the camera my wife said something about me being childish and not listening I think.

I wish every state would take Maine's stance on handouts Paul. Sure would free up a TON of money. We also shouldn't be sending billions of "aid" money to corrupt countries that hate us. Put that money into our military, keep them here and if any body screws with us level there country in a day or two and come home. No more PC wars. War is ugly, nasty and unfortunately needed so let's keep it that way.

extending service intervals may be a bad idea
HeavyGunner replied to Ezrider's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Hopefully it's something simple. At work they run synthetic in all the trucks and change oil every 1000 (yes thousand) hours. I've never noticed any performance drops but than again run a DD 15 @ 515hp with a 10sp grossing 130k so I don't have much performance per say but like I said no rough running or any thing. Personally I think that's too long between oil changes but hey what do I know? Best of luck, happy Fourth of July. -
It is true to a certain extent that we have ourselves to blame for the decline in our society, but in the last 30 years or so the absolute minority or fringes of our population get the biggest say in what happens or what is acceptable in our country. My home state unfortunately is run by a small minority of liberal tree huggers that have killed the logging industry by tying up loggers and logging companies in legal battles everytime they go to log any public land. Now all of our forests are over grown, and trees are dying from beetle kill (which logging is about the only way to control them) and burning up, there is literally thousands of miles of roads on public land that are gated off only Forest Service employees can drive on. All this because we started getting over run by Californians once Colorado got full and they move up here to get away from it all and start living and acting just like they did in California. Unfortunately they have the money and the time to screw with people's lively hood. Gravel pits, loggers, power lines etc are all ok once they have a logger build their house site, gravel their road and get power to it. After their house is done they try and stop any more of those things. I guess that's enough ranting for one morning.

The frigging judges that give these light sentences ought to be hung. Liberal bastards always find some excuse for murderes and think they can be rehabilitated instead giving them the death penalty or the life sentence with HARD MANUAL LABOR where they pray for death. Instead they treat them better than their victims. The running joke in Montana is your better off killing a human than a wolf or grizzly.

They retiring both of them? i thought it was pretty neat to see any old workhorse still working especially when it is as big as that plane. http://www.martinmars.com
