I’m guessing that’s an LJ? Are you restoring it? If so what are the specs? -

Like you said the government has plundered the Social Security and Medicare account for years without repercussions. They’ve also (the government) chosen to give out social security and Medicare to many many people who have never contributed and are not citizens i.e. illegal aliens. The people have been buffaloed and badgered so much over the last 30 years with this PC culture we are made to feel it’s wrong to cut off people who aren’t even citizens from leaching off of us.

When I used to haul cows across the country and before I got satellite radio I used to get a kick out of Coast to Coast AM. That show used to make me laugh listening to all the crackpots. I heard an episode once where they were talking about a bird that is still alive that has a 35’ wingspan and how elusive it was which is why no one but the coast to coast am listeners have ever seen one.

I was listening to the Dave Ramsey show recently and when he finds an interesting article he shares it on the show. It was a study done by a reputable financial publication (Forbes or the Wall Street journal I think) that showed 80% of the millionaires in the US are first time millionaires. That means it wasn't inherited or handed to them it means they did the work and saved their money. The only people in this country are screaming income inequality are rich democrats and that is the truth. Most people don't know how to save, they always have to have a new tv, new furniture, home remodel, new car etc etc and it's nearly always bought on credit which means you're too broke to buy it. Did you realize the US citizens are nearly a trillion dollars in car debt? Another neat fact that Dave Ramsey put out on his show was the average car payment is about $485.00, so instead of the mentality of ill always have a car payment save cash buy a car within your means. If you did that and banked the $485/month into a good growth stock mutual fund it would grow (based on the average of the last 70 years or so) to $9.5 million yes million if you put that payment in that mutual fund every month for 30 years. To quote Dave "...even if I'm half wrong on this it's still five million dollars". So people being the victim by claiming can't get ahead because everyone else is (insert reason here) is going to keep them where??? In the poor house. I'm not perfect by a long shot but I do live within my means and do aspire to be one of those rich guys you claim gives everyone the shaft.

Since I bought my Willy’s I have not had a lot of time or somewhere out of the weather to work on it. I get nervous really tearing into something in my yard because I know that simple jobs are always more time consuming than you think. Little gremlins like rusted bolts that break down off and fight you tooth and nail to extract the piece of the parts store sends me home with the right part and only when I tear the rig apart and pull out the broken or worn piece do I find I have the wrong replacement. Keep in mind the closest parts store to me is 42 miles away. There is a parts store here in town but between not honoring lifetime warranties parts and price gouging I swore never to set foot in there again especially after the second time I was refused warranty on a lifetime warranties part. Now to get back on topic last winter I traded some work for the use of some shop space to put new wheel bearings, slave cylinders and a master cylinder on my truck. Figured since it runs the temptation to drive it is great so brakes were on the top of the list. This weekend I got my generic fuse block and wiring harness and I’ve been trading work to use the shop again and am about half way or more through the tedious job of rewiring a vehicle. The cloth wrapped original stuff was brittle and turned to dust when I touched it so it was time for a new wiring harness. Heres the new harness Couple shots of roughing it in I also saw a dinosaur last night

I’m with you on less government interference but I also think your point is not well thought out and coming from an emotional reaction instead of a point based on deductive reasoning. I know things can be taken out of context when reading it so I want to make it crystal clear I am not belittling you in any way this is just an opinion based on our conversation. I think it’s short sighted to always decide one way even if it isn’t the best thing simply because you don’t like (insert any group here). I don’t like nearly everything the government does but that does not mean that I’ll always be against everything they do simply because of my dislike of them.

I understand everyone is having a good laugh about the nude pic comment I posted. So I figure you guys would get a kick seeing the real story. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/technology/2017/nov/07/facebook-revenge-porn-nude-photos

But the difference is we here on bmt (unlike Facebook) don’t pretend to have perfect lives, don’t post pics of everyday tasks we complete looking to make some jealous while we are looking for a pat on the head. We aren’t dumb enough to post “gone to Jamaica for a week” hint hint good house to ransack, we actually help each other on here, have great conversations and I believe don’t act any different on here than we would in person again unlike the vapid self absorbed boneheads on Facebook. Oh and bmt has not asked us to send nude pics of ourselves to them so they can safeguard us from hackers posting our pics unlike Facebook. That last line is real look it up.

Thanks for the clarification Dailydeisel, this could fundamentally change and or ruin the internet. Hopefully this gets repealed. I have noticed recently lots of YouTube channels and podcasts now require a paid subscription to watch/listen to them. I don’t think they will be able to make simply because they already had advertisers and sponsors and the biggest reason people tuned in was because it’s decent material that’s free. I don’t think people will go for paying $3-$10/month per show because most shows are short and if I’m going to be paying $100/month for online subscriptions I might as well break down and get satellite tv.

According to the article I posted there have been “fair play” regulations which kept phone, internet companies from unfairly and purposely burying advertisers or competitors. So it seems to me that now without that regulation a cable company or internet provider can legally take money from anyone and make sure it’s harder to find or see the said competitor. Like I said before nearly every time it comes up I’m adamantly against more government but I’m not sure about that on this issue yet.
-
The way I read the article this new law will not allow the government to regulate the Internet (which they have been since its inception) in any way shape or form. From what I can understand different companies can now get into bed with each other for the sole purpose of keeping the public from being able to choose what they see. To me that hypothetically could mean Paccar and Volvo could get together with Google and bury bmt, Mack trucks and anything else realated to Mack on the net. I know that was an extreme example but I don't necessarily want the success of business on the internet solely based on who has enough money i.e. Lobbyist and other types of backers want me to see. If this is the case seems like warren buffet and George soros and other uber rich people could control a lot of what we see, hear and buy on the net. Generally I'm against government interfering with much of anything because they have a track record of spending recklessly, not treating the government like a business so they don't care how inefficient they do things since they go right back to the tax payers to make up for their poor math skills. In all honesty I'm not well versed at all on this topic but am very interested since I heard about it today.
-
Not very well versed on the issue. I have only read the article that I am posting on this thread. From what I gather if net neutrality ends it will make the internet less individual. By that I mean since companies can slow down the streaming of competing content, block it and put their content at an advantage as far as advertising we will have less choice in what we see. From what little I know about this my opinion is this could really change the way the internet is used. https://apple.news/AbaP0xm5dRRuOA6awHOBqOA

I’ve said for a long time that if politicians were paid whatever the median wage of the entire country is and was not given lifetime medical, retirement etc etc we would actually get people running for office that truly care and not people looking for a career of leaching off of the public and getting rich beyond most people’s dreams. That’s how I’d fix the 2 party system.
