  1. We have some trucks equipped with heated wipers. It’s an aftermarket deal but they do work really well. http://www.everblades.com/
  2. What a farse, if the FMCSA is going to keep giving everyone exemptions (UPS, Livestock haulers and now owner operators possibly) they'd might as well do away with ELDs completely. At some point the fmcsa should be sued for not enforcing the law equally.
  3. It really irks me the way media and politicians twist stuff. Instead of stating the facts, trucks will be permitted to carry 5 more tons they twist it to get the response they want. Monster trucks will be causing grave danger to all motorist, you should be scared to death to share the road with them. Time for the media and politicians to simply report accurately instead of spin stories.
  4. And yet any novice can go buy a new pickup and hook up a forty foot camper or buy a 45' motorhome and there's no perceived danger. Stupid lawmakers who haven't a clue what they are talking about.

    Retired:

Congrats Rob. Enjoy your retirement and trucks.
  6. Pricing for cats is just like John Deere, they cost a helluva lot more than a case but the quality does seem to set them apart.
  7. Are they Kawasaki powered like the mowers and such?
  8. I thought you retired 😀
  9. I’m guessing you’re going to need to give more info. What truck, year, engine, pump etc?
  10. I heard they were discussing buying an old Detroit powered Oliver for its simplicity
  11. I have a funny anecdote that goes along with this⬆️. Years ago I was at the local co-op and everytime one of the salesmen would help figure out the Hutterite farm boss's needs for his crops his 20 something kid would then go "you know what I'd do...." and he'd never really ad anything new or useful to the conversation. He just always wanted to look and seem far more important than he was. One day at the co-op some of the usual coffee drinkers were having conversations about terrorist attacks on our power grid and how that'd change things in in the US. Well Mr. Mouthy Armchair Quarter back did his usual butt in at the end but this time instead of just cherry picking the best thoughts from everyone else he came up with his own genius thought. He said if we lost the power grid that the Hutterites would rule the US and have everyone by the balls. Of course that pissed me off and I asked him how do you figure? He said they grown a lot of their own food and I was quick to bring up that they don't do things the old fashioned way like the Amish so they are as reliant on technology as the rest of us so life wouldn't be just peachy as he thinks. He then tells me that we'd (all non Hutterites) would be at their mercy to buy beef, grain etc but I cut him mid sentence and said he was wrong. He started to get mouthy again when I cut him off and said aren't you guys conscious objectors? He said yeah so? I said so you guys don't own guns right? He nodded and I said good then if an apocalyptic event happens he'll be working for me because I've got a safe full of guns and plenty of ammunition they says you'll do whatever the hell I say. He didn't have much of response after that. Everyone in got a good chuckle out of it.
  12. I didn’t get a chance to look yesterday unfortunately. Plans got screwed up so I wasn’t able to go to town and get a new temp gauge and hose. Will update as soon as I figure this out.
  13. We got a half assed parts store here that keeps nearly zero inventory on hand. So I was able to find a hose that would fit the top but couldn't find one close enough to work in bottom and they didn't have the universal accordion style either. Next closest parts stores are 42 and 60 miles away.
  14. I was at a meeting close to 20 years ago and the boys at TopCon said then they had the technology for unmanned farm equipment. The only hangup was over who would be liable if joe farmer forgot to put in the gps of his unmanned tractor a road, power pole etc..
  15. If the gauge doesn't fix the problem I'll have to look at the lower hose. Never had it all the way off like the top one. Thanks for the tip.
  16. I hear ya but I bought the new radiator because the old honey comb style one was full pin holes and I’d guess was plugged plus I thought while I was at it might as well convert it to electric fan because if I could gain the 10-20 hp (most of the time when the electric is t running) that would be a lot in a little engine that makes 70hp. So it’s not a total wild goose chase but I did hope that all the new parts would’ve cured the perceived problem. So really I’m only out buying a gauge so it’s not that bad.
  17. Radiator is brand spanking new along with a brand new thermostat, radiator cap etc. So I'll put another gauge in tomorrow and see if the old gauge maybe wasn't reading properly. Since I had the same issue with the old thermostat and radiator and then the old radiator with no thermostat and now the same issues with everything brand new I feel pretty confident that it's a gauge problem. If not I'll really be scratching my head 😀. Thanks for the replies, I'll hopefully get the other gauge in tomorrow and test that theory.
  18. It usually is. I’ve been pissed ever since the epa forced Cummins hand into screwing with the 12 valve Cummins. We had big, heavy 3/4 and 1 ton pickups getting low to mid 20’s on the highway and then they screwed with them and mileage was affected. I would love to see it quantified somehow the difference in total pollution between “cleaner emissions” pickup that gets 13 mpg and an old “dirty truck” that gets 24 mpg. I think the latter would put out less total emissions when all things are considered.
  19. Ok so I’ll admit it doesn’t take much to make me scratch my head trying to figure something out. I just got done putting the new wiring harness, radiator and electric fan in my Willys pick up. It has the 4 cylinder and ive barely ran the truck since I bought it due to things needing fixed first. The few times I’ve started it it’s only been just long enough to move it into a convenient spot in the yard to work on it. The engine is a fresh rebuild with less than 10 miles on it. When I first bought it I thought the thermostat was sticking because it would get hotter than I think it should (200-210) and I pulled the thermostat and it didn’t cure it. I pulled off the water pump to make sure something odd like the shaft between the pulley and the impelled wasn’t broken giving me the illusion that everything was working and it was fine. Like I said I put a new radiator in today had the cap off to burp it and that little sob was running 200-210 never really changing much. Tomorrow I’m going to try putting a new water temp gauge in to replace the one that is in it which is mechanical and I will likely replace with a mechanical. Other than the off chance that it’s the gauge what would make the little bugger run so hot? The thermostat is 180 and I had the fan running continuous and the little bugger still ran hot. I even took it for a short drive in the cold air (25 degrees) and it didn’t noticeably cool down that I could see. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  20. For doing the work you plan on doing you'll love that Cummins. I've had 2 of them and absolutely loved them. Super simple to work on, very reliable. If you don't think it has enough power they are super simple to make a boat load of power and last if driven with any common sense.
  21. Try sending him a private message. That way he knows someone is trying to get ahold of him
  22. Weren't the old Bobcats Perkins powered?
  23. Ah nothing like frozen windows and wipers. I’m a tall fella so the top third of the windshield (the main part I look through) is always bothered up with ice or the stupid wiper wash sprayers never get the top third wet so I can clean it. Glad to see I’m not the only one having fun.
  24. If you're not overloading the axle or abusing the truck in any other way I'd guess it's a defect.
  25. That really is a shame that qualified people have little to no chance at running for office unless they tow the company line.
