  1. before 82or 83 like you said, did mack make the whole truck including body, pump etc? i always wondered if they farmed the body building out or they built the entire truck
  2. you could get the frame painted any color from mack for many many years as well as fuel tank, front bumper, and wheels in custom colors as well
  3. well it was the power divider, new peanuts inner cam and outer drum and shes good as new thanks for the replies guys
  4. really a mercedes benz diesel in a mack? didnt know that!
  5. show us some pics of your jimmy
  6. 22.5 rims do fit in place of 20" tube rims Thad is correct. you can put either 11.00-20 or 12-22.5 tires on it to pick up a couple mph's but they are a heavier duty tire with more plies and the price is also quite a bit more expensive and the selection is a little smaller than the more popular 11-22.5's and 10.00-20's
  7. that 310 m is a nice trans mack built. i bet its going to be one of their best ever. you also know its in reverse by the big "R" lit up on the dash board and by the position of the reverse/forward rocker switch good set up in my opinion especially with six in rev.
  8. wow a MR with a chrome bumper....thats a first!
  9. so heres my problem. in my dm 800 since i brought it home it had a vibration from 40 mph plus. The truck had some questionable tires on it when we bough the truck and it felt like it had a bad tire. (wouldn't go away when clutch was depressed and couldnt feel vibration in the shifters) so i ruled out drive line originally. well itwasnt tires and we narrowed it down to driveshaft after pulling rear shaft and puttinh the truck in 5th high and standing still with driveshaft spinning and speedo at 40mph....Vibration. well pulled shaft, new yokes on our tube both ends and slip yoke and balance. New trans rear yoke(flange style yoke), trans output flange and front of front rear yoke, as well as rear roller bearing on back output shaft(behind grease seal) so no movement in any of the yokes. put everything together and the vibration is still there about half as bad. so heres where im at now...i figured ti might be a worn power divider with too much slop between the peanuts and the barrel giving me part of the vibration also letting the front half of the through shaft wobble around. so what do you think? anyone have something like this happen before? I cant seewhat else it could be? i pulled the pinion and power divider assy out today and im going to dig in tomm. thanks
  10. i think most dealers are too lazy these days to get left and right mudflaps. and i think your right on the money doug
  11. rim is flat all away across. that rd has 24" tube rubber oh also lock ring on one side of rim
  12. youll be amazed at the options in the dealer books. just check with your salesman you can get it any way you want. also air start=light
  13. theres also a felt washer towards the top of the injector
  14. remember to not sandblast the cab and sheetmetal. sandblasting will warp sheetmetal. sandblasting on the frame is fine, just tape up with duct tape (anything else gets eaten up when blasting near it) anything you dont want sand to get in and cover up with tarps aanything else because the sand will get everywhere. You might be beter off getting a mobile sandblaster guy to come and blast for you. He can knock a truck out in no time. That way you can prep it pull the tires and let him blast. even small sandblast pots need a huge amount of air and will kill even most big shop air compressors. As far as the cab goes chemical stripper to remove old paint and you can spot sandblast rusty spots. Well thats my 2cents on some of the many steps needed
  15. the trunion your speaking of, do you meen both sides the left and the right? It is common for the fabricated trunions to crack down by the load tube they also rust on the inside towards the bottom and weaken as well. The cast ones are deffinatley tougher and less prone to cracking. Someone else here prob has something I left out. All Mack diesels are 1 gal low at the add mark.
  16. heres a pic of the DM800 I just got done re doing also a pic of my B-81 its going to get redone this winter
  17. sorry i havent seen your post sooner bulldogman but your right its a 77 thanks for the complement dumper, she can be a little tipsy at times, and i do my best to stay away from the boards! You need a quick hand to knock that clutch out though. This 955's only a toy though.

  22. the early hoods has a rolled fender opening lip witout the ridge going around the back of the fender. The real early hoods had parking lights in the front of the hood next to the headlights and the rest had them moved t the outside of the fender. When they moved them they also had a reflector mounted below them and that was done away with sometime in the early seventies. sone time in the mid seventies they went to a tie rod end hinge while the early ones had a piano type hinge. Also the flat back cab r models had the small letters.
  23. nice cats and dogs. ive got a 1956 955. You can never have too many hands with one of those machines!
