  1. 11.00 24 is only available new in radials. I have not found any bias ply tires available new in this size, and all new bias ply tires are all imports from india and china with few exceptions. The only companies making 11.00 24's are goodyear, bridgestone, and sumitomo. They only make an all position tread so its well suited for drives and steer. There are more choices in the 12.00 24 as most major tire makers still make them so you can take your pic, but be prepared because they are almost $100 more than 11.00's. I have seen bias ply import 12.00 24's and they were $300 ea w/o tube and flap. I bought new goodyear 11.00r24 w tube and flap for $416 and new 12.00 r24 are just over $500. You can also think recaps but 11.0024 and 12.00 24 casings are always at a premium and hard to come by so if you dont have your own casings your looking at $300 plus. no one said this was a cheap hobby, if you love the truck enough youll save your pennies and not think that the cost of 10 new pieces of rubber cost more than a decent used car! anyway this is what I did. Ten new Goodyears (I know Im insane)
  2. I was looking at your trucks in the gallery (very nice!) and I have a question for you. Where did you get those stacks that look like the old b model and early r ones? Also who makes them? Pretty neat stuff, I need a couple for some of my trucks. Thanks
  3. Thanks for the reply. I am about to just bring the truck to the dealer and let them reset the idle. If you come up with a different procedure than turning on and off the cruise switch 3 times in two seconds I would love to hear it. Thanks
  4. I hope one of you guys that wrench at the dealers can help me. Ive got an 03 cv713 with a non egr 400 with v mac III controls. The truck started by itself idling at 750rpm. I find this really annoying. It used to idle at 650. Ive tried resetting the idle with the cruise on switch turning on and off 3 times in 2 secs but that doesnt work, also tried diconnecting the batteries over night. No fault codes either. HELP! Chris
  5. Looking at the whole picture youve got a good point coalbucket
  6. Isnt there any castings on that engine that say USA? I figured to see some euro parts on these engines but China and india? How cheap can volvo get.
  7. A GMC General looks a lot like a Superliner, and they were both good looking trucks but I know which one Id rather have. Same goes with the Titan and the 9900 Inty.
  8. nice truck post some more pics if you have them even before and afters and during
  9. After all the recent talk about heavy spec NY trucks on these forums I thought Id ask a couple questions about the original owner of my b-81. It was purchased by Joe Farina and was the personal truck of Eddie Farina and was originally lettered as Fiori contractors #80. If you remember anything about this company or its trucks Id like to hear about it. Even personal opinions about the operation they had, let me know. Thanks
  10. Thats a lot of work. What broke the frame, rust spread or cracked? Swingsets are pretty common problem areas with lighter rears in tri axle's
  11. Did Mack refuse to warranty that quad box? Didnt that truck move one the largest piece of Barry granite? Wont a Benson aluminum body look great on a f550?
  12. did it have a 335 cummins and a quad box by any chance?
  13. how about a pic of a Farina B-81? Ive got some pics of jersey spec dm-8's if you want me to post some of those but I know they arent quite as heavy as those big grandfathered trucks from ny.
  14. I have a feeling that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. The fuel prices are crazy and like you guys said it is really putting the pinch on truckings already poor rates. for the most part all of our iron is parked. There are too many people in trucking that cant add and subtract. You bring up alot of good points BlueKnight. the goverment and the tree huggers woukld rather have anouther country without any enviromental standards drill for oil instead of the good old U.S.A. Same goes for manufacturing. Make it in China save a couple of bucks so the middleman can make more as well as sell more because of the shorter lifespan of an inferior product. Where is everyone going to work in this country if there is no manufacturing? You know its bad when I had 2 satellite t.v. installers come to my house in NJ that are from Maine because there isnt any work up there. After talking to them, i found out that they used to be woodworkers but they got priced out by cheap imports from overseas. Now dont get me wrong, I am not a jelous person, but I believe that most people around here have too much and want too much. Women dont need 100 pairs of cheap chinese made shoes. Kids dont need the large amount of cheap, lead infused toys that they have. what wrong with a few well built tough as nails toys that will last for years? It used to be, for example, if you needed a new winter coat, you saved for one. The coat you bought wasnt cheap, but it was a quality piece made in the US by Americans, and it lasted you for years. it wasnt some cheap chinese piece of junk that fell apart in six months. Now people look for how much can I get and how cheap can I get it. (The coat I buy this month is going to be out of style next so Ill have to buy anouher). Enough about coats, I just used that as a reference but it could pertain to anything that you might purchase. Well enough from me thats just my .02.
  15. I had a 237 make a tick when it was leaking a small amount of compression out of the head gasket. I didnt know it was a compression leak untill the gasket went and the noise was gone after i put new head gaskets and fire rings on it
  16. Cant wait to see pics. Thumbs up on keeping the spoke wheels.
  17. i agree with HK. I also change fuel filters and water filter at 300hrs. The power steering gets changed every year or two depending on the mileage. (steering boxes are expensive) The only time I dont change the oil at 300hrs is when the truck came equiped with extended service. Extended service trucks have three full flo oil filters (dont count a centrimax filter), huge oil pan, big water filter and large secondary fuel filter. You can go 600hrs on oil, filter and fuel and water filter changes.
  18. Well the adapetr that bolts between the block and air compressor is cracked. i looked at all of my parts and parts trucks and I dont have one. it is on a '65 711 and my '67 r model w/673 has one as well. I enclosed a pic . If anyone has one kicking around please let me know. thanks Chris
