  1. . We are the fist to get hit. The days of running tandem and tri-axle dump trucks and so on in NJ at 70,000 and 80,000 lbs gross are coming to an end in the short term as well. Its never going to be the same as it was. -John Why do you always have to be so negative? Think positive. The only saving grace is there a lot more tandem and tri axle dumps out there and hopefully we have a louder voice than the heavy haul contractors.
  2. I can tell you for sure that the red Dm is not for sale and John could tell you the same, but it doesnt hurt to ask. The 6cyl Dm's were all equipped with tip turban cooled charge air coolers while the E-9 trucks had front mount intercoolers. Ill try to post a pic of the radiator on both style trucks. Green Dm has E6 285
  3. It would be interesting to see if you could find those taller gears for the 29 rear in your truck. I always wanted to find a B61x with the 35,000 rear and give it a little bit taller ratio so it would do more than 50mph
  4. " HK said there were a few overlaping ratis but they were so close that they did nothing more than keep your hands busy or let you show off a little. HK should we let him know about geting the truck into gear without the clutch? or how about forward to reverse without the clutch LOL!!! "Lmackattack Let me know if you need any info on replacing driveshafts, replacing powerdividers, bull gears, side gears, or throughshafts next time you try that. Make sure you have your historical licence plates lock tite'ed on when you do. "Yes, although the TRXL1071 6 speed did have a couple "splittable" ratios (not recommended by Mack) such as shifting from 2nd lo to 1st direct with 2 hands. "HK Trucking I was just wondering what gears made forward progress without being exactly the same. If they are close in ratio but still make forward progress in ratio I would like to know. Thanks
  5. hey HK what are the most forward gears you can shift from a stop with a two stick six speed. never tried the 2nd low to 1st high but i will tomorrow. thanks
  6. A jacobs has better braking force over a dynatard but if the truck had a dynatard on it i would not replace it. If you could come up with a dynatard cheap i would also use it. I think by 84 all the trucks had dynatard camshafts but you need to see by engine number first before install. If i was going to install a new brake buy a tek brake, jacobs doesnt make a 2 valve brake anymore
  7. They cant tell you that you can not run a truck because of copper air lines. It was approved at the time of manufacture. I still run a '71 r model everyday and its factory equiped with copper lines. I have never had to replace a copper line in the 20 plus years of ownership and daily use.
  8. Thanks Mackpro good tips there. I will be sure to follow your advice.
  9. Thanks for the replys everyone. Im going to try to pull the stud and reseal. The motor only idles long enough for turbo cool down and its only got 115,000 miles so she better not need valve seals! (also no blue smoke at start up)
  10. This is a new one for me. Hopefully one of you guys that are wrenchin on the new stuff can help me out. Here is a weird oil leak on my '03 Granite e7 400 pre egr. It is not coming from the valve cover, it is only wet under the manifold by the lower stud. Are the manifold studs tapped into an oil passage? Well here is a pic of the problem.
  11. Very nice truck. I love those big single axles.
  12. I dont know anything about that truck but I know it is the only reason I watch that movie when its on TV. I dont mind the A-cars either.
  13. I think it might of been an option to substitute to braided line. I have seen Kenworth log trucks optioned that way because of the exposed lines and sparks from welding and torching on the log bunks.
  14. are you sure you are not looking at the front brake limiting valve?
  15. Fantom 309 brings u some good points to check first. Also look for an vacuum leak from the intake or vacuum hose especially the hose going to the hydrovac usually under the driver side step. If the radiator isnt plugged try a high flow water pump ( a high perf one ) or at least a new gm one with a cast impellor because parts store rebulids use very crappy inefficient impellors. The first thing to remember is that that truck is never going to be a rocket ship but should do the job. If the 350 is in decent shape it should be ok. We have had c60 chevys before and the small block trucks can get the job done. I wouldnt swap to a big block. It isnt worth the work for the amount gained. You can put a five speed in that was an option on Chevy 50 and 60 trucks since the seventies. The best thing might be instead of a trans swap is putting in a two speed rear with a low ratio of slightly less than that of your single speed rear. Hope that helps
  16. Heres some pics of some random decals that survive on my 65 B-81SX. Mack break in instructions on driver door Door caulking putty (first time window stop was removed) Full flow filter instructions Mack logo on full flow Top view Inlet stamped on fuel filter Just thought id post these since most of this stuff is long gone.
  17. the mack sounds good. what are your plans for the v12 jimmy and the 6v53? was that detroit gov. surplus? Gotta love the Detroits!
  18. from anouther post Reduced 85% 3264 x 2448 (1.96MB) 11.00 24 is only available new in radials. I have not found any bias ply tires available new in this size, and all new bias ply tires are all imports from india and china with few exceptions. The only companies making 11.00 24's are goodyear, bridgestone, and sumitomo. They only make an all position tread so its well suited for drives and steer. There are more choices in the 12.00 24 as most major tire makers still make them so you can take your pic, but be prepared because they are almost $100 more than 11.00's. I have seen bias ply import 12.00 24's and they were $300 ea w/o tube and flap. I bought new goodyear 11.00r24 w tube and flap for $416 and new 12.00 r24 are just over $500. You can also think recaps but 11.0024 and 12.00 24 casings are always at a premium and hard to come by so if you dont have your own casings your looking at $300 plus.
  19. I think the guy on ebay is on crack the bubble back mirrors are still available from mack
