  1. I've only ever been in discussion with big wigs about the Highway replacement.....Because I need one! Is the RD looking hood as pointed out a replacement for the CHU or a Granite restyle? Hmmmmm...
  2. A Mack sales friend of mine had an issue years ago with regards to a deal for multiple heavy tractors going into a fleet he sells to annually. The customer needed 16k front axles on the over 10 tractor deal but could supply the needed heavy front axle for the customer woth the Pinnacle platform. He had to spec Granite tractors with the 16k front axle to be compliant to the customers specs. He ended up losing the deal to Western star who could supply the 16k front axle in a well priced pack of units. Would you believe the Granite tractor spec cost more the a similar spec Western star. The Pinnacle with a 14k front was in the proper price range. As soon as the spec had to be turned to Granite he lost the deal due to pricing against Western Star last year. I believe you can now get a 16k front on a pinnacle. Good timing
  3. They are good if you are the first owner of the unit with an M drive/I shift. The warranty covers any issues you may have in a reasonable life cycle. Unfortunately they also bring your resale value down on trade in. Replacing or repairing this transmission is very expensive and must be done at the dealer for reprogram during reinstall of trans unit. Good deal if you are the original owner, not so good deal for the second owner. I've seen lots of those pulled out and on the shop floor after about 1,000,000 kms here in Canada. By the way....as a tech I see more automated trannies being pulled out of trucks then we have ever had to pull manual transmissions out of trucks for internal transmission related failures. (Not including clutch failures)
  4. So it was you that snagged it....lol. I know a few people that were after it. Nice.
  5. For 2017 emissions the hood lines needed to be changed. Part of the 17 emissions had aerodynamic stipulations. I believe it had something to do with improving body lines for air flow.
  6. Grill name positioning was an option and also depended on weather it had a grill gaurd or not. It was originally built on the RD frame as mentioned before and was only available in set forward axle till 2004/5 if I'm not mistaken. It was not a big seller here because of the front axle loading/spread issues in Ontario.
  7. The teaser video... Looks like the test truck wasn't far off after all. Glued on covers on the hood to hide the headlight set up and intake. I'm in.
  8. Believe it or not EGR actually lowers in cylinder temperature by design. Lower in cylinder temps helps lower nox emissions...
  9. They already announced the VNX will only be available with the D13 500hp or the Cummins ISX. The VNX spec is basically only a heavy axle and frame model option from the normal VN.
  10. There are some add on pieces to the hood and fenders if you look closely. They may be there to throw us off a bit on the dinal product. I'm game for some updates. At this point owning Volvo and Mack products, I will take any improvements they can at the decent Mack trucks they currently build. Not a fan of the Volvo.
  11. A former Mack mechanic worked at Ariss Haulage in Ajax Ontario Can. He repowered 3 Kenworths in the fleet that were originally Cummins powered with Mack E6 engines in the late 80s and early 90s. Trucks worked day in and out with next to no issues. 2 of the trucks worked highway and gravel, 1 was strictly gravel.
  12. We actually broke the news here before it reached Hanks. It was a thread in Dec of last year. I was sent this by mistake. The guy that took the picture works at Sharky and got in crap for it. Same can shell. No roof in cab interior. New bunk. MACK big wigs were filling us in on the test truck last year at the Canadian show that most of the fleet customers were ok with the cab size and wanted a face lift and bunk/cab revamp. Will be released to sales team in fall and to market new year. Notice how Macungie is off limits this year for the show in 3 weeks.....hmmmmmm lol.
  13. Worked at a fleet that had a dozen CS units. We had a freedom demo and wasn't impressed. Owner didn't like cabovers. We didn't like all of the extra technology on the freedom. We ordered more CS units just before they were discontinued and the freedom was the only frog dog available. We had really good luck with Midliners. The technology was what killed the freedom series. No one could fix them.
  14. You could get a Cat 3406B 425hp (a 3406C 460hp test truck made the rounds here in Canada but disappeared) CL653/753 1993-1999 The Detroit series 60 430/470hp was an option from 1993-1995 (CL643/743) Cummins option was only the ISX from 2000 to 2007 (CL733)
  15. These trucks will likely be tank haulers and will run mostly in Canada between bases. They have a fleet of trucks that are very similar to an every day highway truck. No armor.
  16. If it had just the single stick with just the air shift knob and deep reduction air switch mounted on the dash instead of the floor it would be a TRTXL 1070B 12 speed Mack trans.
  17. I'm hoping the market share on the highway side will increase with the new truck being released end of this year. I've seen some pictures of a test unit. It has the improvements I am looking for. Hopefully the pictures I've seen are correct. Same cab. I'm happy with the current cab just needs minor tweaking. Bunk is new and so is front end. Here's hoping.
  18. Y arm issues. Cracking and breaking. The heavier the axle loading and doing lots of twists and turns the worse it gets. Good to hear yours are doing well.
  19. 355 eaton rears Stay away from the twin Y suspension. Lots of issues and little product support.
  20. I've heard that the plant will not be open for tours this year. They say it's due to construction but the timing also fits that the new Mack Highway truck being unveiled to sales forces in the 3rd 1/4 of 2017 may be in the building at the time. The museum will be open with the ability to drive over to visit and no busing available from the show grounds. Still worth the trip south.
  21. I think these will haul tanks like the Western Stars they have now. Below is a picture of a broken down Star unit getting a tow.
