I know it is frustrating listening to these "no nothing old farts" on an online form (believe me I've been there) but at the end of the day we don't want to see another E9 blow. Every year more of them are taken off the road and it sickens me to think they could become extinct one day. While they are very capable motors and can outlast us all if taken care of properly, it is crucial they are taken care of if we want future generations to witness this trucking icon. Sorry to get so philosophical lol. And WOW Joey that Australian county music ain't half bad!! Make a thread and share some more of that!

78 Mack F model with 290 Cummins
BOBWhite replied to cheech147's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Electric clutch fan or electric fans? I've haven't heard of many electric clutch fans and electric fans are a bad idea on anything this old with wiring and such. I would try and go with an air clutch like a Horton, they are available everywhere but adapting might be tricky. You could also go with a viscus clutch but you can't flip those on with a switch (switchable fans are nice if you don't have jakes). -
500hp out of a mechanical motor is a lot different than a new 500hp electronic motor. Unless your using this in a boat or a tank like the French did 500 is plenty for a semi.

Sometimes you need to drive long ways to see a Mack truck

My great grandparents Immigrated from Pfeifer Russia (Gvardeyskoye now, along the Volga river) to Pfeifer Kansas (USA) in the late 1890s or early 1900s. Thats not far north of Georgia if I'm reading this map correctly. Very cool to see where they came from! Thanks for bringing us on this cool trip! Also the Georgian language has always looked so cool to me, it looks like an alien language. -
Looking at auction sites will pull up several, here's one from bigiron: F75FVT13365 Something this old the serial number doesn't mean much anyway

I think the Cummins ISL is an 8.3 with common rail and a longer stroke. I've ran a IH 1688 combine with the old mechanical 8.3 and a newer 2588 with a common rail Cummins. Both of them have had water pump failures and the common rail Cummins uses quite a bit more fuel.

I haven't seen a swamp cooler in a house around here in a long time. Is it for your house or a shop? That reminds me of the old equipment that had swap coolers mounted on top of the cab. The water would drip down on you and it would get very gross once the chaff and straw got in it. Raising the humidity in the cab often just made things hotter and more miserable, open air stuff was often times more bearable.

I have a Honda Trail 70 I ride pastures with but it burned up an intake valve last week Amazon has "new" head for $40 so I guess I'll try that next. It got up to 93°F today and it's getting tough to sleep at night. I try and push till June or July before the AC comes on but a month a go I was tired of the cold so I just try and think of that.

A recore shouldn't be too bad at the proper shop. Aluminum radiators are getting cheeper now too if you want to look into that route. What's with the two radiator caps? What would the one at 90° be used for?

Thanks! That was the name I was trying to think of! Neighbor had an old Terra-Gator but I've never seen it run. They look like monster trucks!

I'm actually in the market for something like that lol That cab looks so familiar but I just can't place it. I have a hunch that it's from either an Allis Chalmers, AGCO, or White product but not sure. Macks aren't typically the trucks farmers convert Into stuff like this but It sure is interesting when they do.

I didn't see much wrong either but I do think he was pretty lucky getting bolts out. I see more people using impact guns on stuff like head bolts and I just don't really see why. I'd get it if you were in a shop and had a time crunch but on something this old? A breaker bar just had more feel and it will give you an idea of how tight to torque it back too. Starting fluid on a gas engine is another thing I don't understand. I found that a squirt bottle with some 2 stroke gas is the best for getting a stubborn engine to go.

Abandoned 2004 6 axle ch713 Allison trans.
BOBWhite replied to BobbyCTX's question in Mack Truck Q & A
Any E7 should work but having the electronics from the old truck like the ECM and TCM will make the swap so much easier. Not much mechanically differed from different E7 horsepowers aside from a different tune on electronic components. As long as its an AI E7 it should work. Not sure if this motor would have a large flex plate like an automotive automatic but everything should bolt up if you saved all the parts. -
Macks On The Big And Little Screen

Watched Corvette Summer the other day, very funny but the 70s style is another thing before my time. That C3 Corvette just looked ugly to me but my sense of style is definitely with the 80s C4 corvettes so I've got a bit of bias. -

Moonfire was brought up in another form when I asked about twin stick cabovers: The plots pretty strange but the trucks sure are cool! That F model would sure be a cool truck to have with the twin stick and it looks and sounds like it has a V8! Lots of 60s and 70s truck regulations and other stuff that I just don't understand, but that's quite a bit before my time. -
Unless it was an Olivetti or some other cool brand the electric typewriters aren't usually worth much. The little electric motors inside are nice for projects though. I've been mowing for the last couple of weeks but the weeds have already gotten ahead of me.

Clean looking engine! I never understood why more people don't mess with the AC engines. Seems like a EGR block off plate and a different turbo are all it takes to have a good motor.
-
I wonder what size those front tires are, they look kinda goofy to me. Odd the voltage regulator cover is missing too. Very clean for the northeast! Hope someone here gets it.

Kiwi Mack RB688RST Rebuild
BOBWhite replied to Mackman686's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
What a cool truck! It's cool to recognize all the parts but arranged in different places. Does this truck have the E6, E7 or maybe even the E9? I've heard in some countries they continued E6 production well after they stopped making them here. Did they offer the E9 in New Zealand? Sorry to bombard you with questions but I have never even heard of these before! -
I've got a pic but its kinda hard to read due to the sun: Heres a better one on another truck: I looked at some decoding forums but I can't figure anything out ^ The cabs are all that's left from most of these, so the glass and maybe the trim would probably be the only things still salvageable in my mind. Edit: The newest registration stickers I could find was 1994 or 1996 so parting these trucks out probably made more sense at that time
