  1. It used to be a common thing for new engines to use oil.
  2. Joey..... it's sawdust in 140
  3. Ahhhhh......that's the good stuff, right into the larvae.
  4. Some of the stuff I remember from when I was a kid.... I had no idea what any of it was at the time, but as a kid being allowed to hang around and watch, you just took it all in and hoped you could crawl under the truck when someone dropped something.
  5. True story Joey. Told me it'd help the rings seat.
  6. Some guys used to use stuff called Copper Coat too . Of coarse the same one of those guys also told me Comet Cleanser would help a new engine if you sprinkled some in the intake 😳
  7. That looks like a plastic cap off plastic pipe. They're thick enough to put up with considerable PSIs for testing when you thread a hole drilled through it. Easily can hold enough to check for leaks.....and it's a cheap way to test. Onyx moonlights as a plumber 😃
  8. Gotta be careful with that. Sometimes , from what I understand that can lead to swollen glands and loss of rational thought.
  9. The one I saw was often on Route 322 in Pennsylvania. If I remember it was pulling a hopper. This was only a couple years ago. It was a working truck. A friend who was familiar with it told me it was an E9 and mentioned the Kenworth. This Kenworth was an extended hood W900 and I was told it had a 5EK Cat in it. That truck I often saw pulling a dump trailer. They were both painted the same (and looked fantastic) I used to have the Kenworth on my old phone as the wallpaper.... only cause I never saw the Mack sitting still. I'm certain if it wasn't wrecked 😳 it's around somewhere. They really are a classy looking truck.
  10. The blue and white one has a KW sibling painted the same. I think the name was " Good "
  11. The later 359 Peterbilts had a dash that resembles the dash in a C2 . That high MPH speedo reminds me of a Corvette speedometer.
  12. Hey ??? That 160 mph speedo ??? is that the original Corvette dash ?
  13. There was a blue and white one in Pennsylvania a few years back. I think they're a classy looking truck, let alone walking the walk with a E9.
  14. You're such a tease. You can't stop at two pictures of something like that.
  15. One thing's for sure, it wasn't going far without some problem in that general area. #1 is interesting. Makes me wonder if it was indeed overheated at some point and #1 tried doing that and someone threw a cylinder kit in it figuring it would live. Time to start measuring after a good cleaning. Don't forget, the cam is everything in ways. If it or the followers are worn, lots of times that can be adjusted out in the overhead. Then it's out of time and may be allowing too much fuel to enter the injector (especially if it has good rail pressure) and that's not good for a couple reasons. Looking at stuff is like an archeological dig, but the micrometer will tell the story.
  16. Something about that GMC sorta looks like those dogs you have.
  17. Stupid as it sounds, looks like you got lucky. Good idea about the injectors, be nice to see if #6 was puke'n fuel and washed it down to get the piston starting to seize . Seems it should have smoked if that was the case though.....and it sounded good in the video . Something made it happen , that picture looks like exactly what Glen mentioned earlier.
  18. Cool 😎
  19. That's good news. There's not a real lot to those engines, but if it's not available it may as well be a Rolls Royce Merlin I still think it had some rot from sitting. I remember the video, it sounded fine.
  20. That truck looks to have chrome drive plates 😍 I'd have loved to see that when it was in service.
  21. I'm hoping all it really needs is some new cylinder kits ( as far as damaged parts go ) Any luck the rest will respond to new bearings and bushings and such. Couple numbers (603) 642-8483 (Mahoney's) I don't even know if they're still around. (603) 496-8802. I think this guy was a Jones (?) Going back a few years they had connections to older Cummins parts. Like I said, I'm not even sure if either are still around.
  22. 😳

    Shop Talk

Guys used to file every other tooth off the synchronizers in the four speeds. What they referred to as a " crash box "
  24. You're a better man than me actually having the balls to say what I was actually thinking.
  25. Joey, I never realized.... he's young blood too.
