  1. Did you coat the inside of the tank to stop any oil seeping thru, I find these tanks are always wet and dusty unless this done I have never done it myself, tanks I have that are coated are always nice and clean and those that arent are always dirty Paul
  2. First things first, when your trying to start it does it have smoke coming out the exhaust ? If it has smoke and wont start you have fuel and prime isnt your problem If you dont have smoke you have a leak Cant give anymore help until we get the basics sorted first Paul
  3. All of these motots you mention are E6 motors 285 is a coolpowered Maxidyne 2 valve 300 is a Maxidyne none coolpowered with the intercooler In front of the radiator and was a 4 valve 350 is a Thermodyne none coolpowered with the intercooler in front of the radiator and was a 4 valve 300 can also be a Thermodyne coolpowered motor that is a 2 valve or maybe a 4 valve depending on the era Can also have a 350 coolpower that is series cooled with 2 valveheads There is quite a long list of options, I have only scratched the surface here The coolpowered motor was a game changer in the industry for many years and really set Mack up as the leaders for a long time It is important to understand the differences when shopping for a truck as the sales man will always quote the higher value on power when selling a secong hand truck Even if you have a really good understanding I doubt anyone can tell what the pump is set to by looking Paul
  4. Dunno about on your side of the world but over here the chassis number is used for identification In Australia it is punched into the RHS rail behind the first drive axle Probably of no help but its a start Paul
  5. Thought you blokes might understand this better than me Paul
  6. Been a while, came across this, I guessing Yanky land somewhere Paul
  7. That isnt correct, they should not be set like this as once any wear is apparent they will be past 90 degrees
  8. It must be time for a update post on this bunk of yours Vlad, gotta be some happenings since we last viewed it 😉 Paul
  9. Well my 20 cents worth of useless advice Dont be to hard on old ,ate flogged the truck to you, any truck over about 10 years of age wont be original and will be changed quite a lot to suit what you want So keeping this in mind I would start collecting bits and pieces to make it into what I want it to be Keep using it until it goes KAPUT then start chucking your stuff into make it what you want Also some advice from a fellow truck driver at Springsure in QLD Australia one day, was about to head off in my 320 hp Mack pulling a road train, up around a 100 ton (220,000 pound) heading south to Roma and have to climb Carnarvon Gorge, now this is really really steep and has bought plenty of trucks undone, it has "caution trucks must use low gear" signs for climbing the hill, only place I have ever seen this for climbing a hill Anyway this truck driver says to "dont worry lad, plenty of blokes have climbed that with a lot less power pulling more weight than you have" Moral to the story is you have plenty of power for anything you will ever want and unless your running coast to coast that extra power isnt gunna make much difference to your day, slow and steady and enjoy the view Paul Top photo was a late model KW that electronics had gone KAPUT on Carnarvon Gorge and couldn't lift off (wheel spininning on dry hard bitumen) Bottom photo is after I over took him stopped there, had to split up his road train and pull a trailer up at a time Guessing he was a 600 hp monster, horse power only gets you so far
  10. Yeah it has changed on here in recent times but that is the one constant Paul
  11. Well I hope you had a CRACKER OF A DAY, dunno much about the navy, even less about the US navy I wouldnt be much chop in the navy, vomit and more vomit lol Paul
  12. I used to crop photos once but I noticed that while looking at photos from many many years ago that the most interesting part wasnt the subject of the photo originally but rather something in the background I also got into the habit of just getting every photo printed as I worry that years to come some photos will get lost because they are stored on technology that is out of date A bit like if I was to have stuff stored on a computer floppy disk from say the 90's I would have no idea about getting access to it today Remember those big laser discs before DVD's that were around 12 inches diameter, could we even watch one today Or DVD's in 10 years time ? Paul
  13. They are some good looking bulldogs there, I would have absolutely no use at all for a R 800 but I would love one I have seen two come up for sale but are gone in a heart beat, they only made 26 so the chances are slim of me ever getting one Paul
  14. Looks like a great event, also looks like Im gunna have to take up golf by those golf karts ☺️ International Scouts always looked good to me but were big sellers in Australia, dont think were big sellers in the State's either There's a way I was taught to reduce the size of imgages all at once and 100s upon 100s can be done in one go Have a look if your interested, I still had to get a hand the first go or to but once I new how it really is as simple as Paul
  15. No matter what the motor you need to keep a eye on the pyrometer when climbing a hill 237 has balls bigger than you can jump over But honestly if it needs this much changing to suit you are probably better buying another truck Paul
  16. From New Zealand From I believe Patrick Mark Mahoney photo Maroa Logging NZ Forest Products Kinleith Tokoroa (1978-1980) Kenworth 848 Off Highway very similar at the time of the Canadian Pacific trucks at Kinleith and Kaingaroa Can see a R 800 behind the Kenworth Interesting to me at least, these were stamped DM on the chassis rail, I am thinking they used a DM rails to build the R 800 Australian and New Zealand Macks are very much custom built and almost all used a R model chassis except the R 800 This applied COE and conventional cabs well into the 2000's Paul
  17. Well it's been a little while since I have added anything much here Some more information has come to hand thanks to the Australian Bulldog Bulletin magazine I have some bits and pieces of different issues that mention the R 800 These were shared on a Australian truck forum known as the HCVC forum Anyway with permission from Pete Ramsey the person that posted there I will share it here Thank you Pete, he has a pretty impressive collection of photos and magazines etc of Australian trucking history, if you blokes get a chance do a Google search for Overlanders photos etc on the HCVC forum, well worth a look and will take a day or so to view them Anyway to the R 800 Once again a big thankyou to Pete for allowing me to share some of his collection I hope you blokes get some enjoyment out of looking at these old buckets of bolts,I know I do Paul
  18. Crazy old world we are all living in these days Vlad Anyway as long as we get some pictures of stuff we are missing out on it will all be good I have the Princess and I a ticket to the big party in NewZealand in October for 50 years of Mack over there 🍸🍻 Was gunna take Mrs Mack over for the show but bugger me the cost is kinda huge Paul
  19. Mo good at all Dave, I'm not a motor bike person, have no desire to own or ride one Only on the farm and I only go fast enough to out run the quickest cow or angry bull Hope you mend up okay Paul
  20. Reckon some joker might of flogged your fearless leader What sez you Paul
  21. Now that would be a silly spot for a trailer plug Im thinking it is to drive a gravel spreader out the back You know t he type were they spray the bitumen down and then back a tipper up with gravel slowly trickling out Paul
  22. Well I hope you have better luck than me, nearly 12 months ago some joker high as kite and pissed as knit decided it would be a great idea to try and have a head on collision with me, still waiting for the ute to be repaired properly, panel shop has only had it since July 2021 Paul
  23. Plenty of shine going on there
