  1. Photo of ratios sent to me from Joey So after discussing this with Joey I reckon it would good to share this info with all as these questions are asked plenty of times on here From the chart above (correct me if Im wrong Joey) On the left hand vertical column of the main group of numbers is ratio of the top half of the diff center I am calling the top half the bit that turns the drive to a right angle So once I establish that I can then go across the line horizontally and find my ratios that are available with that top section of gearing So my truck had 5.73 to begin with, now has 5.32 So I find those two numbers and that tells me what ratios are available if I only change the lower section, from 4.64 - 6.48 If I only change the top section and leave the lower gears as is I can have from 3.87 - 8.90, that is starting at my 5.32 as my base ratio Is this correct Joey ? Paul Also let me know if it isnt okay to share this stuff Joey and I'll delete it Seeyah
  2. Chuck up a link on were to cast the vote, probably increase your chances Good luck with it all Paul
  3. Yes Vlad was right, just getting out and going for the day over Have sent you my email address Joey Thanks for helping Yeah, I have no idea were I got 5.29 in my brain from 5.32 is plenty slow enough and would give you blokes a fit if I drove on the states at 55 MPH all day like I do out here Paul
  4. Thanks Joey Went for a look see and returned with some info Looks like 113, I have never had a issue with these at all so have never looked before These were 5.73 ratio when new and for some reason I thought they had been changed to 5.29, Vlad pulled me up one day and said there was no such thing, I don't know but said I would find out next time I'm under there Looks like 5.32 to my eyes, reckon they would be the original carriers with new gears put in as 58's are pretty rare out here Paul
  5. So I am trying to understand whats happened here The glad hands have been removed ? Is this correct? If so this is pretty simple, just hook the glad hands up either way it wont matter If they are the wrong way around nothing will happen when you push the button to charge the brakes, the button will stay in If they are the right way around you will hear air rushing back to fill the resevior on the trailer Many years ago I remember reading about a driver in the states that didn't know about this and the air lines were back to front The end result was people died as there was no trailer brakes yet the truck still drove many hundreds if not thousands of miles before it all went wrong I cant recall if the glad hands were wrong or badly worn or what the go was but it ended up the hoses were the wrong way around Apparently no tug test was ever performed at hook up Paul
  6. That weould be the rare exception, not the rule for truck drivers I think like anywhere in the city or the country most times things go this wrong we probably shouldn't of even been there in the beginning if we had of used common sense Paul
  7. These types of floods might be 20 mile wide and 50 - 60 mile long and shift slowly over hundreds and hundreds of miles, silent and un assuming Here is video of my mate Goldie stuck a few years in his Kenworth "Brute" Truck is named "Gold Finger" and is in incredible condition for the country it runs in Not my video Paul
  8. Pretty much what Swish says What isnt it doing Paul
  9. I have learnt one thing for sure from life, it is no good running away from your problems, shifted from one end this wide brown land to the other, shifted back 11 years later and now I dont really belong anywhere Reckon I should of stayed and fought it out Anyway you blokes will do what you think is right Paul
  10. I have converted a few trailers to maxis, never converted it back though What lines are missing and from were ?
  11. 1980 Dunno about the series of carriers, tell me what to look for and I can report back with better info Paul
  12. Does anyone have a list of ratios available for 58,000 pound axles ? Paul
  13. Would be guessing the water was only inches deep when it got bogged By the time help arrived it was this deep Australia is very flat and floods can be many miles wide and often havev no local rain when flooding occurs Paul
  14. Sadly I dont how many more Fathers Days are left in Australia, the left tards are doing there best to out law it as it isnt inclusive of kids that dont have fathers Anyway I guess I shouldn't worry about what hasn't happened yet Paul
  15. Yep dont be shy to share videos and photos Paul
  16. Just undo the bung on the bottom of the tank until water turns to diesel and then put the bung back in Years ago blokes would build a levy bank arpund the trucks with shovels aetc while they are still flooded in They would then bail the water out and then slowly work their way back down shoveling the mud out from all the axles etc while waiting for the area to dry out They were stuck there for up to two weeks waiting and this filled in time I have a video of my mates tripple roadtrain flooded in, not quite this bad When I spoke to him he reckons the bearing suppliers liked hime after buying a lot of wheel bearings and seals lol I'll have to track it down one day Paul
  17. Yeah could would be dramas in the future, mainly electrical dramas in later life, but what old bucket of bolts doesn't Paul
  18. Yeah I know you lot over there in Yanky ballsed fathers day up and have it on the wrong day Fathers day in Australia today Recieved this from my boy amongst other things like a new 3/4 rattle gun and this Gave me a hell of a chuckle, Princess not so much lol Have a great day all the fathers all over the world Paul
  19. Well to me it is good news, you have had someone confirm pretty much what a lot of people here have suggested, it isnt the throw out bearing and if I was in your shoes with very limited mechanical knowledge then I would consider finding myself a trusted mechanic and take it there That been me I wouldn't do that because I fix everything myself even if I dont know what Im doing I make it my business to learn, this way I am a lot more in control of my own destiny Good luck and keep us updated Paul
  20. Did you know that apparently the dog on the bonnet is a girl ? Obviously she wasn't poster worthy Good looking sleak pooches there Swishman Thanks for sharing Paul
  21. Not my photo Tracy Oneil photo andcomment bellow "Going through the scrapbook tonight. Not my pictures. Two dogs having a swim."
  22. Yep, just keeps getting better and better Paul
  23. The biggest problem with U bolts I believe was to keep things secure they are done tight The tighter the U bolt is done up the more it deforms the chassis and bends the flanges in making the whole show weaker To get around this issue people had nice cut bits of wood that fitted really neat in the chassis to stop the fangles getting squashed These bits of wood had to be hammered in as they were a very neat fit The bits of wood also had a groove in them that the U bolt fitted neatly in This stopped the wood coming out and the flanges getting squashed In the end I think it was just easier and cheaper to bolt angle iron on and be done with it Paul
  24. I wanna make it clear that I wasn't trying knock annything just trying to save someone future head ache Anyways I'll hop back in my box now 😀 All is good, carry on Paul
