  1. Mate we Aussies dont go out side for a piss head out for a SLASH or TO WATER THE HORSE SIPHON THE PYTHON and we blokes dont go for number 2's we TAKE A DUMP or BOMB ENGLAND or SEND THE QUEEN A TELEGRAM and a whole lot more but I thought I might get chucked off if I put them up And what do put in a pie warmer A MAGGOT BAG or a DOG'S EYE perhaps a GROWLER or maybe a MYSTERY BAG or perhaps a C--K ROLL and after youve had mains for a nice cake whats better than a SNOT BLOCK Or perhaps if you were feeling real cheeky you would walk into the milk bar or cafe and ask HOW MUCH FOR THE BLOWIES IN THE WINDOW Gotta love your idea for the crapper sure wont get as much nagging then one can only dream Paul
  2. what ever is under the bonnet its a coolpower something either Maxidyne or Thermodyne but is a coolpower truck you can tell by the 2 air cleaners ones for the motor and the other supplys the tip turbine intercooler thingo at least thats the way there done here in Australia and you can tell its a six cylinder buy the short bonnet Paul
  3. well had some spare time today so I had a look see at what figures I could find In 1968 Truck and Bus did a road test between Melbourne and Sydney for people that dont no thats around 800km proberly 850 km crossing the Great Dividing range twice thats the main mountain range on the eastern sea board of OZ runs top to bottom of the main land anyway it was one the first 4 Maxidynes in OZ pulling a pantec I think it said gross weight around 32 tons it averaged 6 MPG neat The truck test I was thinking of was in 1978 300 Maxidyne with 12 speed OD 5.02-1 ass end gross 35 tons it got 5.5 MPG on its test, the company that owned the truck said that it averaged around that but had got as good 7 MPG In 1981 there was a Cruise Liner with a E6 - 350 12 speed 4.64 ass end pulling a double deck stock crate gross weight 39 tons got 5.1 MPG which isnt to bad considering pulling a double crate is like pulling a big parachute behind you I my self cant give you anything special because I dont have a tipper but cruising around local work with a float "lowloader or maybe low boy" I would have expected around 6.5 MPG with a semi with a high load 5.5 MPG road train doubles about 80 tons around between 5 and 5.5 a lot depends on were you are as in open plains or trees and hills open plains really sucks the fuel I have been down to 55 - 60 km/h across the Hay plains in NSW and once I get up into the scrub and few hills in Queensland I cruise at around 80 - 85 km/h same load just a bit further north my Mack is a 320 cool power ( Thermodyne ) 12 speed OD 5.73 ass end So I guess all this dosnt mean much but the one common thing I have to say is these older motors out perform the new trucks just little bit slower but by far a lot cheaper to run and to bye kinda makes me wonder why they stopped making them but thats a whole other storey Paul
  4. AH a wife that dont nag kids that have left home a big bag cash oh yeah your off to a good start she looks nice and yellow Paul
  5. thought this might help http://flxibleowners.org/article-the-brake-system-adding-spring-brakes/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVJSFlp8Pws http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rqvO_IwHbM I didnt watch it all but they explain how the brakes are meant to work as they a picture is worth a thousand words I hope this helps Paul
  6. first welcome aboard I would have thought the brakes should pull it fine I suppose first things first how do you adjust the brake ? how about oil leaks around the axle ? is the shoes the right radius for the drum some times shoes have to ground to suit the drum if it is worn ? is there air leaking out when you apply the brakes ? do you have enough air pressure at the maxi chambers on the axle ? Paul
  7. Interesting enough back in the late 70's they had fuel trials almost every month in the "Truck and Bus" magazine fuel trials might not be the right word anyway they did truck test and they had a Mack with I think from memorey 300 coolpower with a 12 speed and I reckon it got close to 7.5 MPG it had a triaxle tipper grossing around 38.5 tonne so that would have to be around 85000 I could find the artical if you like and post it in here Paul
  8. notice in the second pic the there are 2 R 700's one with normal mud guard height the other looking as ugly as a hat full of a$$holes dont no why the made the earlier ones that way but as far as I know all fiberglass bonnets were made in Australia they might have been specials for Brambles to give more strength for off road as these trucks spent a lot of time off road Paul
  9. Mate your kidding arent you I was looking forward to seeing more of that I guess we need to let that be a lesson to all of us hand down the cash straight away and take the new toy home with you BUT!!!! like all of these things easier said than done especially as these toys are a bit big to put under your arm as said above that sucks Paul
  10. welcome and as they have all said above we all like a good story Paul
  11. Hmmm I seem to remember learning that in the mid to the late 1930's the was a bit of noise in Europe about some sought of fruit loop in Europe that had a big opinion of himself and the rest of world sat back and did SFA it took years and millions lives to sought that mess out Then 1945 I seem to have heard about a US general who was at Berlin and he seemed to think that they should keep on going and sought out communism right then and there the troops were there the equipment was there but he was told no it took 50 years and whole heap more lives to sought that mess out So me not been a real smart dumb ass skippy the kangaroo Aussie would seem to think that so much of this crap could be sorted out right at the start rather than let it drag on for ever and costing everyone a whole heap of money and lives neither of which grows on trees but what would I know perhaps there is no votes in it for polliticans Paul
  12. I dont know how I missed the start of this topic doing a great job there almost as shiney as the top of my head doing a fantastic job lucky I dont have any of those alcoa wheels to polish keep up the good work Paul
  13. were the 4-152 and the 4-196 the slant motors they had in scouts they looked like aV8 cut in half almost ? Paul
  14. not knowing anything about insurance in the states but in Australia I always work on an agreed value it can save a lot of heart ache if something does go wrong and I always try to be realistic with what I reckon its worth its no good going in cheap to keep the premium down and then have a claim and find out they want to right your pride and joy off because the repairs are to close to the value any way thats what I do Paul
  15. fellas here is a link to a forum site in Australia that are disscusing this http://www.hcvc.com.au/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1409971833/0#0 its a big mess and repair job Paul
  16. I was just thinking ( I know I shouldnt ) can you just imagine going to Mack today and saying I want 11 trucks got to be able to haul off road for carrying over 100 tons each in minus 60 and they need to flex like this and go thru water this deep oh yeah the boys need to be able to heat them up with a blow torch and no computers at all and we need these in 9 weeks or less !!! I dont want sell Mack of today short and say they wouldnt but what do you all think gone are the days of not making excuses and just getting the job done
  17. Welcome aboard hope you enjoy Paul
  18. well worth the wait would you believe I searched for a film on this on youtube within the last 12 months and found nothing thanks MHfred for the link R600 RD600 I now how to put it on to a DVD but Im not sure we are allowed either way you can save it to your computer pretty easy Perhaps it could be a chance do some sought of fund raiser for some club in the states I dont no maybe DVD and a copy of Vision 386 poster either way a great way to spend fathers day then I had to explaine to the lad and princess what the Dew line is or was and then to the lad what the cold war was I think the thing that moves me the most or shocks me the most is how we in the western world could just get stuff done imagine trying that today there would ten years of enviromental impact studys followed by greenies chaining them selves to lumps of ice the trucks wouldnt pass some calafornia pollution law and I suppose the hardest thing to find would be blokes to do the work we owe those men and there wives that let them go a lot thanks lads Paul
  19. to me the only simple option is if you had another truck the same you could swap the drive shaft with another truck if the problem shifts the problem is in the drive shaft aside from that maybe a balancer issue maybe the input shaft to the gearbox was damaged or the bearing in the front of the box ? I started typing the needle rollers between the input and out put shafts in the box but then I had a thought !!!!!!!!! they arent spinning when youre in top gear well at least they arent in a Mack box but the input and output shafts are only carried on the bearings at each end when your in top gear so maybe the the those needle bearings between the two shafts help to cancel out the vibration but it cant when your in top gear because they are not spinning as in the shaft is coupled together I dont no if this makes any sense anyway disregard if Im waffling to much Paul
