  6. mate sounds like it has a shortage of gas not a lot because it still works fine when the compressor is spinning fast shifting heaps of gas real quick just enough so that although system is working fine there isnt enough gas going to the evaporator (the bit in the dash) for it to work properly and get ice cold when the truck idles if that makes any sense the dealer is full of crap it should be chilly all the time At least thats my thoughts maybe the gas works different up side down Paul

  9. yep as above dont use it while your moving it is only for lifting off in real difficult going real big load on a real big hill or on really rough ground the deep reduction is huge step and you will most likely never need it Paul

Well Im learning heaps about that cold place you blokes live in we use plastic for air lines in work shops out hear quicker to put in and lasts for ever and you wont get any of those spots when your spray painting My mate puts a Tee were each air outlet is and takes the pipe further down the wall with a bung or a tap at them bottom so he can drain any moisture out other wise it gets trapped in the pipe I would have thought with all the foam in your work shops a good fire system would be a must as once a fire got going I would have thought you would struggle to put it out Most people out here have at least one power outlet out side for cutting things up with the grinder its a lot safer than using it inside I know Ive set fire to heaps of stuff even me with 9 inch grinder So what you blokes do with your oil and stuff I gather you wont be allowed to use as weed killer around the shed ??? Sounds like these sheds are going to be flash bits of gear Im surprised no big screen TV to watch the footy (foot ball for you lot )A couple of Jason recliners the list could go on and on Paul

  14. I dunno much about them but they have them in Australia and they seem to work ok they have had them for a few years now and I have never heard any dramas maybe a sign of things to come Paul

  19. thanks for the replies thought you blokes might like it Mate I dont think people in Australia used heavier wall tyres we just used what tyre we could get most out of for the least amount of money most of us still do the same today we never had tag axles out here almost all native wood in Australia is very hard hardwood and is that heavy it dosnt float at all so even though quite often our loads of wood might look small the wood is very heavy A bit more useless information did you know that worlds tallest tree confirmed tree as it was cut down and measured was in Australia and as far as I know is still lying there at least it was 20 years ago Now come one fellas time for you blokes to wack up some other photo's of B models with big loads on dont be shy now Paul

Welcome to the forum I have no advice just have fun is all I can say I know nothing about the single drive Macks as not many were sold in Australia come to think of it I have never seen one in real life I would look very closely at air ride as camel back when running bobtail is like riding a rigid heel Harley Davidson you'll hop off pissing blood dunno about the single drives they might ride a lot better good luck and have fun Paul

Looking thru some old Truckin' life magazines the other day and came across these pictures the caption says Wayne Burgess of Heybridge Tasmania, sent in these phot graphsof a B43 Mack his father, Col Burgess drove 24 years ago. It was a six cylinder model with a 10 speed transmission The Bulldog was set a task and a half carting this 30-foot single rider hardwood log. It weighed 38 tonne on its own, providing an over all gross mas of 48 tonne . The log came from Loyeta in Tassie and was carted 105 kilometers over unsealed roads to Sulphur Creek sawmill were it was cut into timber Well I reckon thats a pretty impressive job for a B43 the magazine is dated Jan 1991 to good not share I feel 38 tonne = 83775 pounds 48 tonne = 105821 pounds wonder how much apower a B 43 had I would guess around 180 Hp some one feel free to put the correct figure up sure makes us all look like sooks wanting twice that power for a tip truck or 3 times that power for a semi LOL Paul
  23. interesting I came across a similar article that was written back in the 60's or 70's same sought of figures quoted back then the one problem that they hadnt worked out was if the flywheel is spinning and the bus hits a big bump the flywheel can make the bus jump 20 feet off the ground it was some such thing as that anyway I could track it down and scan it might take me a few days to find it though Paul

  25. Hmm, lots to think about. There were lots of problems. I think the UK truck car tractor the lot really rested on there laurels like come on trucks with out tilt cabs into the 80's to slow and to under-powered. When did they stop making cabs with wood in them it must have been the 70's. Even Atkinson Australia took there fiberglass cab to the UK to show them they sold like hot cakes out here and were ultra tuff and quite smart looking but no the pom's wouldnt use them. The pomy fiber glass cabs were rubbish out here the fell apart so Australia and New Zealand made there own. The Scammell Crusader looked the business but again no tilt cab, what a joke. It was so bad that Bedford dealers in Australia converted Bedfords to tilt cabs and also some dealers put V8 Cummins motors in to try and compete. And the UK joined EEC well that was the end of their tariff protection the had in the commonwealth so the little Jap trucks came with tilt cabs were cheaper to buy faster to drive and lasted longer. So I guess it really was a combination of factors once it was gone it was all to hard and no votes in getting it back so it was easier to just let it die its on death. Dont get me wrong they had a good go at getting back on track but the will from upper managment was no longer there. Just my thoughts, Paul
