Looks like a fun project The way your removing your rusted panels is the way I have done it I feel I got a lot less damage to the bit I was trying to save than drilling and chiseling out the old panels Great work and keep us updated Paul -
And don't get me wrong, the Scania sounds pretty bloody good, the E9 has a sound all of its own, not better or worse but very distinct to it I think and I say this with the greatest of respect to our American friends, there is little chance of this becoming a swap in America because what we consider to be normal amounts of money to spend they tend to baulk at as the options in America are so much greater than Australia That Scania sounds pretty darn good Paul

For the effort it takes and the convenience it will give to me its a no brainer Swapping to negitive ground would without a doubt the way to go, if you want a phone charger, CB, ordinary car radio or any other really common things we use every day to work as they should it is easier to change just one thing, your truck to suit the rest rather than change everything to then only work on your truck So a alternator is the first port of call, quick simple on wire alternator with a built in regulator Dunno if you have a amp guage or volt guage, chances are both will have to have there wirers reversed so they still work the correctly otherwise it it will show volts in negitive instead of positive and the amp guage will show its discharging instead of charging There wont be a lot more to change that I can think of off the top of my head As I said it's much easier to change one thing rather than 20 things Also if you change the trailer etc and have breakdown, no one else can tow your trailer Paul

And would they sell any good in the US or Australia, probably not as they are pretty price in a Scania truck let alone putting them in a Mack and they are a far better built motor than a E9, sorry everyone but the E9 lacked reliability in the long run on full power every hour of the day, they sounded tough and went well but were not a million mile motor were as the Scania V8 is and has certainly proven that over the 4 or 5 decades they have made them Paul

Looks the part, are they 20 inch wheels on the back, can get 12.00 x 20 bar treads for them and it will stand a fare bit taller and give better flotation in the paddock 14.00 x 20 is the largest 20 tyre I know of that are fitted to trucks Sugar cane haulout trucks have huge floatation tyres on the rear and we can do 100 kmh in those with a full load and they go strait on a spider or dayton hub Paul -

I would be thinking in a high profile case like this, if and when the police lay charges they gotta make them 100% correct and idiot proof because if any of the high profile jokers are charged they are gunna use every trick in the book to get off So the police I would be making sure that none of jokers are covered in Teflon So it may take a while for things to happen but I reckon they will happen Paul

It's gunna be hard to find something that matches in a doesnt look it was just thrown To my way of thinking you need to go either something that looks really modern on there so it looks like your not even trying to blend it in or find something old school, maybe one of those shiney aluminium jobs with all the creases and bead rolls etc all polished up and looking shit hot and shiny Paul -

I think they would be, with MP 10 at 685 hp and 2300 ft lbs of torque, I reckon they would sell like hot cakes except for one major problem Americans seem to like dumping their trucks on the ground to give it that long low sleek look, modern Australian Macks are up high and your face toughness Paul -

They worked fine in hot climates and cold, they certainly were well regarded in Australia by most that had them, from what little I know the biggest issue was dirt and dust build up on the fines etc towards the rear of the motor If kept clean like any cooling system they were a million mile motor, the diffs seamed to be a common weak point Paul -

We dont call it Veterans day in Australia. We call it remembrance day and the day is like pretty much any other except everthing stops at 11.00am for a minutes silence Apparently every country in the Commonwealth calls it remembrance day and US is the only country that call it veterans day Not matter what we call it we are all in debt to the people that have and still do give up everything to protect us Paul

It's been a while now since I rebuilt mine and I seam to recall now that you mention it that I couldn't get a close enough match with the O rings and they gave me grief so I went genuine, either way you'll probably okay as everything on mine was pretty worn out Paul

Well I'll be buggered, yes I am officially stunned, not really speechless rather just stunned Here was me thinking I was the only truck nut ( other than Ken thomas) that is also a train nut Turns out that Im not the only fruit loop in the world Now that amazing discovery is out of the way, may I just say WOW Thats amazing, amazingly big, amazingly ugly and amazingly beautiful all at the same time, well done to all involved and I'll be watching this space Just did some googling to try and get some perspective on this loco and compare it to something I can relate to Australias largest loco was Heavy Harry or H class Victorian Railway's loco Heavy Harry weight is 264 tons and a tractive effort of 55,000 lbs C&O 1309 weight is 291 tons and a tractive effort of 98,300 lbs Thats quite impressive when I consider it only weighs a extra 30 tons and has probably 40% more power Even more impressed is that both survive and this would never of happened with out the many thousands of hours volunteers donate and their extremely understanding families Well done to you and everyone else involved, you should be very proud of what you have achieved Paul

1986 R Model Mack Referbish

First welcome to the forum I think Joey and Mowerman are pretty much on the money My experience with doors and windows of any brand are fairly limited The R model is more of a head challenge at first than it actually turns out to be Once you have it out on the bench it really is very simple to work on compared to most other doors in cars etc The key barrel has to come out as Joey mentioned and the clip is on the inside rear lip of the door and slides rearwards about a inch, the barrel then pulls out from the outside, the clip then comes out the rest of the way The whole window and inner door skin and regulator comes out as one I think we have covered everything Paul -
