  2. Headed off for a wee drive, just me been a clown before hitting the road Paul
  3. Yep, as Alex and the dealer said 80/90 for the diffs, thicker oil maybe if its really hot and hauling really heavy weights for long periods and really heavy I mean over 200,000 lbs and in 100 degree heat for 12 hours straight, but I doubt it this is your situation Paul
  4. Inline 6 are perfectly balanced were as a V8 is always out of balance Inline 6 has more bearings to support the crank V8 is or was a smaller physically size to fit into tighter spots than a inline 6 for the same power to weight Macks E9 was not as reliable in the heads as their E6, why this was the case I have no idea, perhaps it was pushed into production However if compared to other brands of motors at the time the E9 was comparable to most and better than some The trouble was other brands soon developed just as much HP and sorted out their reliability issues to the extent the E9 fell out of favor The E7 came along and by and large was a better motor and made good power for most applications The E9 was eventually sorted but it took a long time to make it the motor it should of always been Thats my take on it anyway Paul
  5. No Joey, Iveco is Italian and Renault is French, I think the French government owned them for many years Iveco is the world's largest producer of diesel engines, I believe they are also the largest producer of heavy diesel engines Iveco owns or owns a large portion of Case a and Case IH farm equipment, they are huge Fiat, Unic, Iveco and no doubtba whole heap of other things are all owned by the same mob Paul
  6. BIG AL, welcome aboard Images might be to many pixels and need to be reduced in size I haven't been able to load pictures to the forum for some years I use Postimage and put a link up, took me a while to get the hang of this but it flows fairly smooth now So it sounds like you might have s French derived Mack, some things are quicker to find putting Renault instead of Mack when Googling about if it is a French jobby Paul
  7. I can provide you a lot of the answers but have found every time I try and offer factual answers that apply to Australia people just want to argue so I tend not to enter into the conversation and put all of this in in the corner with the other tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists However I can tell you that most of your questions have been well and truely thought out and the answers are pretty simple however most people just want to pick holes in tue answers and, well I just dont have that much effort to give trying to explain relatively simple answers to your questions Believe me or not, all of the the concerns you raise have been answered many times over and a lot of people just dont want to believe the answer Sorry, not a lot more to add here Paul
  8. On Australian R models theres a dial on the dash for dash instrumentation lights, turn it one way the lights go bright, the other they go dull, when this gives up th er ghost you get no lights, I'm guessing the U.S. Macks are similar, maybe the place to start looking Paul
  9. Bugger me Red Horse, my condolences to you, this is no good at all, have the best Christmas you can I guess Paul
  10. Well be blowed, never heard of a Australian Shepherd looks like a lot of Coolie on it I have had many a pooch, never bought one, I just get the mongrels no one else wants, always Blue cattle dogs, kelpies, border collies and the like, working farm dog type of dogs, full of beans until about 3 years of age and then they grow a brain over night Miss Molly waiting for me earlier this year, buggerd if I know how she enjoys sitting on the passenger seat but she sulks something chronic if I leave her behind, she will sit up there for days at a time and loves night time on our open roads were we might not pass a car for a hour or more, so much to see hundreds of meters out in front with the driving lights burning into the darkness
  11. My understanding is no Mack bogie drive is fully open in the power divider area The air operated type of doohickie you mention is to lock the power divider for slippery conditions And yes 65 MPH with out knowing the details of the Allison is probably pretty close Paul
  12. Yes Crissy is upon us, everyone stay safe and enjoy your selves A mob I spend a bit of time working for suggested we had to make a Christmas video Have a look and a laugh and maybe even learn something seeyah Paul
  13. Those jacks work really well for so many things, we use them for putting brake drums and spiders (spoked hubs) on and off axles as they are a handful for me to do these days on my own I think they are a motorbike jack, not sure though Paul
  14. I dunno, the front half would be original I would imagine, the back half is a deeper section I reckon I could fix it and none of you lot here would even be able to tell To me it isnt really right to can someone else's item there trying to sell, thats between the seller and the buyer and no body elses business I have asked before what the need to have ridiculous long wheel bases are in the US and have never had a proper answer, I think 99% of it is just looks but I dunno It is very clean from what we can see, cant really comment on the rest of the truck with out seeing it in the flesh, but thats a heck of a price for a E9 Superliner even by Australian standards Paul
  15. So more to nod you all off to sleep in part 3 Paul
  16. At that money you dont have a lot to loose, I dunno I guess I just live on the edge a little more than most Paul

  22. Never been into gambling at all Remember as a young bloke doing my apprenticeship I was having lunch at the pub with the boys from work They were all keen for a bet on the nags and I had go, done my doe and never had desire to try again which is just as well because once Im hooked on something I'm in boots and all, bit like my wise investments in trucks or farming 😉😉😉😁😁😁 Paul
  23. All cabs are pretty much the same except the Flinstone which has a different cowl, finding one will be the challenge Paul
  24. Maybe its just the angle of the photo From what I can see that doesn't look to bad, even in dry old Australia were no salt is used on roads we get a lot worse rust between the rails So back to the question at hand, the gap should make difference in my mind and must of been there from new for the cross members to fit Mack Australia or any other Australian truck builder didnt use "body bound bolts" back in the 60s, 70s and 80s, just normal high tensile bolts Huck bolts came along much later that I know of If it was mine and from the photos I can see, I would clean them up as best as I can, rust proof paint, cover the mating surfaces with heaps of grease and just bolt them back up Do the bolts up tight with a rattle gun and drive away Some times it pays to not over think things Paul
  25. I have never heard of a heated wind shield before so am of little to know help Might help if you can tell us make and model of vehicle it is in Paul
