  1. I agree Larry. The round nose trucks just dont cut it for me..that one there looks very good. Congrats...
  2. Have you thought what engines you will put in if the 673 gives up on you...
  3. THATS THE KEY RIGHT THERE... Each has their own opinions and I respect that
  4. NOPE...Doesn't matter to me...If I don't like it, I don't read it. Problem solved!
  5. what no you tube vid of the new 3 stick B model...... I want my money back!
  6. If I recall not many modern R cabs had cab mounted exhaust. after the mid 80s most were frame mounted??? If that is the case you will need to save your muffler brackets and interior stiffner brackets then drill and install them in the new cab. it is a tricky job as you can see what your doing. you will need to make a template and then drill the cab hoping that you hit the marks correct!! once you have the interior stiffner plates installed its easy from there. I had to fab up driver side brakets and when I was done they fit better than the factory passenger side did LOL??? What I also did was to make better exhaust supports. the westerns used the 2 bands to go around the muffler and one up at the rain rail but they always ended up making the muffler crooked. I made some fancy new brackets that not only look better but allow you to adjust the stack to keep it straight. if you want pics let me know and I will show you what I was able to do. Trent
  7. I-40 out of barstow CA to the AZ line. I drive in the left lane basicly the whole way...
  8. The RS600 had a few diffrent ways to mount the air ride cab. some used a aftermarket cab mate/superliner style air bag while others had the standard R model twin bags. It all depends how high the cab sat off the frame rails and how the truck was speced. My RS700 cab sat up about 6-7" off the rails. I was able to use a superliner air bag set up and it works great.
  9. Mine was used off of ebay had a cracks like yours has. about 1/8" cracks. I sanded it down filled them in let it set up and sanded again. was smooth as silk. had it painted and it looked great. last week I jump in the truck and see that its cracked in the same spots. but now they are smaller cracks 1/16" but they can be seen. will likely just push some more of the stuff in and see if it hides them at all. I think the plastic just shrinks when it gets real cold.
  10. i just did my wheel this summer and it cracked again. I used the stuff that is made for steering wheel repairs and it still cracked as soon as it got cold? My advice is to put the steering wheel in the freezer 1hr before you push the puddy into the crack. it may reduce the shrinkage issue??
  11. any highway in and around Los Angeles. concrete washboard! I 40 is bad where mentiond above. also I40 out in AZ can be a real roller coaster. not bumps but can take the wind out of you at 75 MPH
  12. I added air ride to my cab this year. I was able to keep the cab mount exhaust but had to make some new stack brackets. I also removed the x brace for the radiator. Added radiator support bars to the frame. Then used a superliner air bag set up. I modified the rear cab brackets to support the lower air bag mount. All that is left is to put the hood rest rollers on the cowl. Not hard just a lot of little things.
  13. I think you would just be creating a nightmare if you bought a r cab and converted it to a superliner. Just the bodywork involved would be a pain. You will find that the R model cabs had slight changes over their years. Some things that I noticed were diffrent door latches, exhaust mounts on the cab, wireing, cab lights/horn placement. Air cleaner location. Air ride cab, hood rest on the cowl. Radiator mount...there at some of the things I had to deal with when upgrading my 1977 to a more modern cab.. Trent
  14. Mike I misplaced the title 8 years ago when I moved.. If I recall the reliable wrecking truck had a door tag with a vin # that did not match the title. This tag was just sitting in the cab not even screwed into the door.. I do recall that the title had the same number that was on the frame. If I ever come across it I will let you know. I have everything in storage as I'm moving again.may be s while untill I can check. Trent
  15. I buy parts from Northern IL mack in grayslake IL. never bought a truck from them but they have some guys that work the parts counter that know alot about the older R models. A vin is always needed to start but they can search back for superseded nimbers etc... have pulled thru many times on V8 parts and RS700L parts. Trent
  16. thanks guys. Its sad to see here go but just have no time and its been sitting out doors for to long. Weather is getting to her. Would rather see it go to a good home than collect dust and rust. Thanks for moving it Herb. It kept asking me to select a fourm title or something? would not let me post the thread in the for sale section???? anyways think its already sold. Met with a guy this weeknd and we made a deal. should be gone in the next few weeks. Trent
  17. Can also be from Lugging to much. that was a known issue on the early maxidynes. but most cases it was the rear of the block that broke. Regardless things brake even with good care taken.. Trent
  18. most of us that have plated antique trucks have been given the run around at the DMV. You just need to remain calm and show the person or ask to speak to a person that can fully understand what your doing. as long as the truck falls under the requirements for antique tags your good to go. Most people at the DMV dont see many people plate them as antiques so it throws them off. try again! Trent
  19. Barry it wont let me post in the for sale section??? Built from 3 parts trucks started with a Reliable wrecking B model, used the frame from a Celli B model and a Cab that I brought home from Long Island NY Truck has a END711 (running) with a Quad box. Walking beam with 5.73 ratio Started out as a restoration but never finished it. Frame and cab were fully sandblasted and painted in 2004-05. New old stock doors and fenders bought so the sheet metal is in great shape. Interior is painted green and has a refurbished bench seat. all new glass ( vent windows need restored) will need some body work as the truck has been sitting out side. mainly just the back of the cab center and where the doors made contact with the cab channels. needs the trunion bolted back up as I was getting ready to pull it and swap in air ride. needs brake system hooked up as I removed the roto chambers to install spring brakes. new 12v starter with new alt lund visor new roof top marker lights engine has new hoses have alot of saved parts off the parts trucks to go with the truck. can be driven onto trailer. no title but can get a salvage title if it helps. Located in Volo IL $4500 OBO Trent 847 738 8569
  20. I remember 15 years ago 2.00 a mile was good. It paid fuel, tags ,plates and maintaince, with profit left over so you could own a home and see weekends... Now I see rates as low as 1.30 or team rates at 40 cpm. Fast forward to today where truck price,Fuel, tags and insurance has doubled. Yet the blind new drivers keep marching in to the slaughter house
  21. if you go on you tube there is a guy with his mack hauling out of a farm field. he goes up a ramp and gets the rear ends to bottom out on the RR axel stops!. then feathers the throttel near the top to get the front end back down softly.
  22. Yea. there were not without issues. Sheet metal was pretty bad around all the seams. only thing that was in ok shape was that the drivetrain was all intact. I later went to Celli yard and bought up some of their old alum 5 hole budd rims. they had some NOS B model doors and fenders as well. on another note 2 years ago they knocked down the C.T.C/ Northwest Mack building. They had a NOS F model day cab and some other parts in a trailer that was scraped. They did save the Bmodel water truck. It went to OE express in Wauconda. sits in their yard... Trent.
