  1. Guys, Check out the ATHS forum. Couple of responses that seem to point to "hotel issue" and "convention costs". As I did nothing but bring my truck down and spend three days at the show, I have no clue as to the hotel issue or just how the "convention costs" were a factor-although I thought you had to pay for everything-that is, nothing was a "freebie".
  2. Well I just did a post on the ATHS site and thought I would ask the same question here. I heard the National show lost money. With almost record truck registration and good crowds I find it hard to believe it did not at least break even. Anyone have a clue?

  4. Mdog- Isn't a bigger issue if the wedge or spacer is wrong, you can make contact on the spoke, but you won't have any clamping force on the rim?

  7. Big 10-4 Maddog....."Aluminum is only good for tea kettles". Quote from an old fleet maintenance guy who worked for my company when I started in 1966. Guy who drove the circuit, when he got to the shop, pulled out his full length shop coat and his thick bound book that kept all his notes-no laptops!
  8. If you haven't seen the movie "Obama 2016" go see it. It will scare the shit out of you and probably reaffirm everything you have been thinking about this fraud.
  9. I hate to say it guys, but our B models of yesterday were in class by themselves. And the 100% Mack driveline was a selling point for sure. But today, as someone else said-thjey've been "Volvonized"-or words to that effect. My concern is some day the big cheeses in Sweden will say..."why do we need Mack? Its our engine? duplicated costs, blah blah". Keep in mind, the customer base that saw the value of an integrated truck-engine, trans,axles_ is getting older (ugh!). And while no one has that same degree of integration today, they are working at it-at least as far as engines are concerned with F'liner having Detroit and Mercedes power, Paccar their own engines via their Euro connection and now even International with their own attempt at building big power. As for the comments on today's "drivers", I say when I'm going down the road in my 56 year old B-61, some guys-young and old will blow horns, wave, thumbs up etc. Others go by and no recognition-I might as well be driving a Toyota corolla. The difference? As I see it, some guys have a passion for what they do-others drive a truck for a living and that is it-no passion for what they do.
  10. Well I did a brief search. Everything points to Brazil. So at least its not a Chinese co.-yet-that will steal our technology and then price us out of business.

  12. Thx guys for your comments. Truck had its 711 replaced with a 237 in '79 by the guy aI bought it from and he used it in his excavating business until I bought it. So the Duplex has done well. My biggest concern with the "L" version of a quad box is the strength of the aluminum case-which as with all aluminum components-it was chosen as a weight savings-at a very premium price- but was engineered to be as durable as the cast versions-I hope!

  14. Anyone have an opinion on this transmission I think its a double OD quad box with an aluminum case. True?? If so, how do you think it would hold up behind a 237 Maxidyne? You may recall I've posted before about trying to solve my 6.67 CRD -62 problem as my direct Duplex gives me no road speed. Instead of finding a gear set for the rear, I'm thinking the transmission swap is a better way to solve the problem. Appreciate any thoughts.

  16. Hi Fifth Wheel. didyou make it to Hudson. Why don't you think a TRQ7220 is a good choice for a 237? Again, snowballs chance in hell I can find a higher gear set for a CRD-62. P & S had some and they sold them all to some guy from Canada.

  20. Old guy here- I remember I bought a bunch of 1972 LN-9000 Ford tractors. 12/23, 6-71, RT-910, custom cabs, no a/c and cast wheels-typical fleet trucks-around $16,000! I think we were buying Maxidyne tandem tractors in those days for high thirties-again-no frills, 12/38's no a/c etc.

There are pix of trucks I never saw!~GreenDash- thx-I've seen that before-but what is the double 'O" version Maddog references? TRQ 7220??
  23. Matt, 62/65 would be great-right now I'm at like 54. Plus its not just the top end. With a 237, I could also get "around town" at lower RPM's. That is take advantage of the Maxidyne concept and consistantly run in the lower RPM band. So a double OD is a TR?????BillH- I hear you on the 5 spd 4.17. But part of the "attraction" of this old dude is that big rear double reduction rear with the torque rods. Don't want to lose that.
  24. How about Doug Fetterly in upstate NY? I bought a new repro B bumper from him at Macungie two years ago and I know her had batteryboxes too.
  25. My B has a 237 with a Duplex and 6.67 rear. I would like to change the rear ratio but good CRD-62's are like hen's teeth. So I'm thinking, easiest thing is to put an OD Triplex or Quad in it. Any opinions. A lot of experienced people tell me that the Duplex can't handle the torque of a Maxidyne and I do use the truck on occasion (35,000lbs and occasionally a bit more) Added benefit of the trans. vs. a gear set change is I don't minimize the off road capability of the truck. By the way, this truck was built as a B-60X, I believe original owner pulled the gas power train and put a 711/Duplex in it. then the guy I bought it from put a 237 Reman in it that had 10,000 miles on it. Hence "gas engine rear gears".
