I was union in the 70s they were absolutely wonderful now they don’t do anything for you but take your money I’m lucky to be working for an outfit that just automatically hooks us up

I started driving in  1969 for a union company where my father had worked since 1949 and was the shop steward. I got layed off in 1972 during the recession then and worked non-union jobs because no union jobs were available. I moved to Florida in 1986 and landed a union job until the company folded and left Florida in 1988. Again no union jobs so I found another job until I retired in 2011 and hung up the keys. Good while it lasted but never any help from the union.

Well, we all know the deregulations did not help us at all. Frankly, when I think back, I’ve been pounding shit ever since then ha ha.

There is an old saying "There is no union like the soviet union".   Unions were pushed to the next level by communists very shortly after world war 2. They did a lot of good protecting workers but they were a perfect environment for corruption and malfeasance. Look at Detroit. They take your money and fly a flag over your head. When they get too powerful they will strangle the company and they have no choice but to move to Mexico or China. There has to be a reasonable balance of power.

That's what I always said. We all know why unions started, companies could take advantage of the workers any way they wanted with hours, pay, and everything else so unions were needed. But somewhere along the way the balance turned in the worker's favor, and they just expected more and more pay and more and more benefits for doing less and less work. That greed put a lot of trucking companies right out of business.

Most of it will probably leave the country but I hope some people here can get some good deals. I'd love to get a cheep forklift but all the terminals are too far away.

they recently bought a buncha brand new peterbilts 579 models...atleast here and reno...and ten for on the forklifts ,,,they are very handy...bob
