I've read every article that I can to get back up to speed and there is plenty of blame to pass around. Yellow had a plan but the IBT would not get on board with it. At this point it is out of the hands of Yellow as their creditors, including the US Govt, are pretty much in control. Yellow-Roadway, YRC, Yellow through the years has been on and off life support and now it is just a matter of time. My ex-wife works at yellow, her bro-in-law who is a neighbor and good friend of mine works for ABF, my across the road neighbor who I have weekend beers with every weekend works for T-Force & has been with the company back to the Overnight days and through the UPS freight time & I work at Old Dominion Freight Line. We are all watching this closely. My ex-wife for the most obvious reason but the rest of us because when Yellow goes out, we're all going to feel it directly and are actually already feeling it as companies have began moving away from Yellow to the other LTL carriers. My company is actively hiring for dock workers, pushing current employees through our in house truck driving school and planning to hire office & supervisory staff. We all need to hang on and plan for yet another supply chain slow down because there are not enough people & not enough equipment to move all of the freight that Yellow currently moves in our country. Some of the union carriers will hire Yellow employees but not all, The non-union carriers will stay away from them. The Yellow equipment is not up to the current LTL standard so that equipment is basically little more than scrap so most of their equipment will not be purchased by other LTL carriers. Apparently the Sr VP of sales told her staff that Friday would be their last day of employment & that Yellow is filing for Bankruptcy on Monday. Later the company back-peddled and said that is not true. Last time I looked, the power equipment was all leased (from Ryder IIRC) the trailers and gear they owned. They were great fleets in their day. Learned a lot from both.
