is that an rd with a split hood? was the hood scoop functional and was it an option?

Scoop is for the Tip Turbine intake. It an R series with standard tilt hood.

Was it typical to paint rims in silver for firetrucks?

Here and in Europe it's pretty common to have rims or wheels painted silver but I see the most over the big water are white and light gray.

Where are you? Are you on vacation or did you move back to VT? It should be spring in New Zealand. Nice R by the way.

yarnall back to Vermont due to real estate and will stay. Max is staying in NZ and we will visit in the winters. Nice little R but rides pretty hard on the bias tires!

I feel your pain of separation, mine is not that far like yours is, mine now is on her own in Cleveland, but the last I saw here was the days she and her mother took her there in July and being a nurse will not see her for the holidays,,,So Cleveland here I come,,,lol

Glad you will get out to see her and we are lucky that our kids could leave the comfort of home and expand their horizons! Oh and if I remember.....Cleveland ROCKS!
