Hendrickson ar2 air ride converson

Recommended Posts

It does appear to give good articulation for off road use and the air would smooth out the ride over a conventional spring /walking beam suspension.

The rear most track bar will be critical to keep "tight" and will be taking quite a bit of stress.

No personal experience with this set up. Just looking at pictures.

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.

I really like the look of that suspension.

Sounds like the world needs a bloke like yourself to install it and maybe do a bit of a review.

There is also the same setup called Raydan. Apparently its a bit heavier duty than the ar2, and a few little differences from what ive read but essentially the same thing.

Hendrickson does terrific work. Extremely professional organization.

The AR2 is one way. http://www.hendrickson-intl.com/Truck/Vocational/AR2

But a more maintenance-free severe service alternative, with decent ride but significantly less weight than AR2, would be the Haulmaax. http://www.hendrickson-intl.com/Truck/Vocational/HAULMAAX

(Or the similarly construction Ultimaax for ratings over 46,000lb) http://www.hendrickson-intl.com/Truck/Vocational/ULTIMAAX#tabs

If you want air suspension for a severe service application, it's hard to beat the Primaax EX (my preference for a tractor). http://www.hendrickson-intl.com/Truck/Vocational/Primaax-EX

I think the raydan has a big weight rating.

I know it has a bigger air bag in the rear, with slightly smaller at the front. Not sure if that will do anything?

Also a selling point of theirs is you can drive fully loaded with no air in the bags. Just to get it home incase of a blown air line/bag.

Not sure if it comes in kit form or not.

I think either raydan or ar2 will have you smiling.

I've heard rumors that an "upgrade" from a standard steel spring walking beam suspension is in the $10-12K neighborhood. Not sure if that's JUST the cost of parts, labor extra on top of that...or if that is the typical on-the-truck-ready-to-roll price.

Yeah, I'm dreaming of the day when I can find a nice walking beam cut-off with 44-46K Mack rears to upgrade with the air springs and put under my truck...might have to win the lottery first, though... :pat:

When approaching a 4-way stop, the vehicle with the biggest tires has the right of way!
