  1. Nice pictures and story. Guys had to know how to do stuff back then. Rigging is an art and only the best know how to even start to do that type of work with that type of set up these days. Thanks for posting.
  2. Mek will clean anything right up but you will crap out your liver and that is bad if you don't know it. (You kinda die from that) I like the purple degreaser from the parts store and hot water if you can. Its not as good as diesel, K-1 or Gas. Just remember some stuff burns like crazy and assume all of it soaks into your skin and builds up in your blood so ventilate and wear good heavy black rubber gloves or something. Cancer, if you have not seen it in action is not an easy way to go. It sucks real bad in fact. Avoid exposer to chemicals wherever you can.
  3. Wow is that SHORT! It looks like it might tip onto the front bumper if you stand on the brakes too hard. I remember the St Johnsbury name but don't recall seeing this style of truck in the fleet. Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.
  4. I've heard there is quite a collection of equipment there if that is the outfit I believe it is. The twin screw is pretty nice. The other looks like it needs some help but certainly salvageable. Hope they go to a nice home at a good price.

  6. I love the big rubber and if you hunt around you can find some decent tires for sale. It is a consideration for sure however.
  7. This is on craigslist in Mass. It is the old engine 2 from Andover MA. The price is a pipe dream but it is pretty cool to see. It does look like its been outside since 45...
  8. Permatex makes good stuff for sure, I've not used that particular product but will look for it and give it a shot. Their sealants are exceptional. I'm a little leery of not using a gasket but...I'm old school. I'd make my own with appropriate material which you can get at any parts store worth its salt. Greg
  9. That air cleaner thing made my heart skip a beat. I'm trading back to the oil bath with the E6-250 turbo setup I have...Like the stock look. Thinking about it though, the volume of the ouside of the cleaner where the air is headed up into the intake is massive and I can't imagine moving enough air through it to suck up a steady supply of oil and making it run away...I suppose it could be possible....I wonder what the air velocity is inside that unit...???HMMMmmmm....? I guess I need to so some math.

We better get some insurance on this gathering just in case...Dam shame its the same time as Hershey, where I'm headed Wednesday. Stopping a the Mack Museum on the way out on Wednesday which I am stoked to do but would love to look these trucks over just once... Dang.

  12. Could have used that Oshkosh snow fighter with the massive snow blower last winter. Could have cleared they whole yard in 90 seconds. They actually were running some of those up and down the interstates to open up some areas. Impressive as hell to watch! I could have put all my snow in the neighbors driveway...that would have been GREAT!

  14. If that is the worst you have, I would not worry. I'd do something about stabilizing it so it doesn't get worse now rather than later, Depending on the plans, a good dose of crank case oil, or a some rust converter and POR15 with primer and paint to seal and protect it. Structurally that is fine. Wish mine was as good.
  15. I need to look at my truck and my paperwork to see what I have, i'll grab some more pictures and share what I find. Thanks to all... So I checked my paperwork and I have 50,000 CDDP112/CRD113 rears with 7.49 ratio. The speed indicated on the sheet is 57/58 mph. It does have maxi's on it now so there must be a way to do it without the 65,000# rears. I'll get info off the cans if I can this weekend. Also says I have the TRQ7220 trans and I have 24" rubber again from Mack. Originally the 864 V8 as well. Don't know if that helps any but its more info for the mix. Thanks
  16. I'm underwhelmed and unimpressed with his lackluster performance. There is a majority in congress and we are failing to do anything with it. At the very least, we should be forcing the president to veto good legislation so he can't deny his true stand on issues...Do something, don't just stand there looking stupid.
  17. There sure is a lot to learn on this topic...so I've got maxi cans on my old rears that appear to be close to correct. I believe if I get offset slack adjusters I'll be legal...Is that not possible or just difficult? I do know that the cans sit real close to the sidewall of the tires. The clamps are all rotated so that the draw bolt and nut are inboard and not out as they would make contact for sure. Is that too close for comfort? I know the prior owner ran a triple cylinder Donaldson dump body on it and had lengthened the frame a foot or so to accommodate its length. He definitely worked the truck in its current axle/brake configuration for a long time. MACKMB212 how are your brakes set up on the old rears? I'd love a picture of it (oh and don't throw those away...) Thanks Greg
  18. I've got the same set up I believe with the double over quadbox, 7.49's and the lot. So, to get the "right" set of parts to maintain stock appearance we would need to find rears off of a B and not an R. Is that right? Otherwise we can make a set of parts that works at whatever ratio we pick up but the power divider is a newer style and we would potentially need the R intermediate shaft (or whatever you call it) to make it work right...Is that accurate? I haven't driven mine on the road yet but I know it's gonna be a tad slow even with the 24's. Thanks
  19. Is there any risk in running an E6-250 two valve in front of a quadbox. My 815 is set up that way now...had the 255 V8 from Mack but I have no idea what the torque specs are from one to another. Could I get in trouble if it were loaded and I didn't know better? Don't mean to hijack the thread so apologies there.

  21. Mine has been converted to spring brakes. I prefer and appreciate the original stuff but don't plan to go back as the hand brake stuff is long gone and I don't imagine is too easy to round up. Rust is a major problem so avoid it unless you have time and skills. I'd aim for a running and driving unit if possible...Running for sure. Tires are expensive as are most things on them...As Jim said above, buy the best one you can afford...get the most value while you are at it...don't get robbed either.
  22. Someone should write a book to detail the million or so little details like the fender discussion above. I'd buy a copy for sure but it might take a lifetime to compile. Thank you for the input guys. I learned something new. I love those fenders with the high crown. They look really cool. Someone write a book...!
  23. Nice photos, thanks for sharing. Is the L model an old one? Reason I ask is the fenders are more "bicycle" looking than on the 49 I mess with...They strike me as more like an A model fender. What's the deal there? Its a good looking truck for sure. I like those fenders too.
  24. That is a unique looking rig. I can't believe it sat inside, unused for my entire life! That's the better part of 48 years friends! I wonder if it is stuck...issues crop up if the garage is unheated...steel sweats and rust forms...I like it.
  25. Love the trucks and "Power Giant" makes me laugh a little every time I say it. I don't know what that is but I'm going to look it up. They are interesting pieces and worth something to someone for sure given the uniqueness of their builds or brand. I'd guess a couple of grand and someone would take a chance on them. I would definitely put in a battery or two and make them run. Knowing they run is a big part of the pie and will make people more comfortable with what they are buying. Note oil pressure and if they burn clean or not... Good luck with them and thanks for sharing them with us. Greg
