  1. Short of a reman engine, trans, and carrier, a new service cab, and having the dealership go over and replace/repaint the remaining chassis components- no.
  2. Thanks for the laugh! You didn't fool me, but I did look at the Mack Australia website just in case!!!
  3. Except that there are nearly no long haul tractors due to fueling infrastructure and range restrictions. Just dedicated and regional haul.
  4. Ex-coal trucks being offloaded due to a down industry. Don't know about you, but I'll take a clean coal plant near my home over a nuclear plant any day.
  5. Weight, price, and lack of sleeper options keep customers in Pinnacles for tractor applications. But they make a great looking and very durable lowboy and heavy tractor!
  6. Its a direct drive trans he is proposing, so the trucks overall drive ratio with a faster rear and direct will probably be nearly the same as a 3 something ratio and overdrive. Just have your Mack salesman run a performance check similar to an allison scan run and be done with it.
  7. "The DT12 is based on an AMT that Daimler first created for its line of heavy-duty trucks in Europe, the Actros, and shares about 90% of the parts from that model. The North American version is designed to run on 12 volts and not the 24 volts that’s the standard in Europe, so the electrical systems are different, as well as some gearing." "DETROIT™ AXLES ARE THE RESULT OF AN INTERNATIONAL, CROSS-FUNCTIONAL ENGINEERING AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT EFFORT. OUR PRODUCT LINE IS A PROVEN PLATFORM, FOUND IN MILLIONS OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES WORLDWIDE." That's straight from Germany. Sounds like marketing speak for taking a European axle and adding a few parts to make it work with USA style brakes and suspensions. The transmission will be built here in 2015. It seems Daimler did a good job marketing their items as being built and designed here. Not that I have an issue at all with what they did, and I respect that they are built here immensely. Just thought its interesting how some brands are perceived versus others.
  8. Or simply check the box when ordering your Mack and don't get the standard service, and then the GPS antennae isn't installed on your truck. If you dont want it, nobody has to have it.
  9. Daimler engines, axles and transmission are all from Europe with local engineering for the American market, no different than was Paccar, Volvo, Mack, and Int have done in certain cases.
  10. I had heard Weichei and Cummins Westport had a partnership, and plenty of Cummins Westport engines go in Mack MRU trucks. My guess is its a chassis Westport owned or Weichei bought without anyone else knowing. Like when Toyota probably cringes when they see a rebel terrorist with a machine gun mounted to a Hilux truck, when you sell something god only knows where it might end up!
  11. I would love one of these updated for 2015 dates to hang in my shop
  12. They do as well or better than what else is out there. For mixed on-off road, a 415C or 445C should do well. You wont get maximum mileage with an Allison, but thats your call based on the trade offs with the job you do daily.
  13. I doubt that either of the things the CAT guy said are true. Their name is mud with all the truck makers out there. As for the cab, they probably own the rights to the interior they redid. I just dont see them investing in a new design....maybe they could try the current truck with their own, real CAT engine. That might be worth something. I think some Navistar/CAT 15Ls snuck out at the end of 13 as 14 model years. Very small number. Probably cant sell them becasue the 15L project was killed off and suffers from all the same issues as the other Maxxfart engines.
  14. I get the jist from the article that Renault is partnering with the Russian company to build and market these to other countries, not really Russia. I seriously doubt the engine would come from the USA given the export controls we have...I'm sure Volvo has some engine factory in Europe that would do it. At any rate, I'm glad to see the deal is killed myself.
  15. ok, just thought the easy answer would be if it was less than a 405 you could just have it upgraded at the dealer, but that idea wont help you here

  17. Until you can prove you were in a position that was more "in the know" than Mr. McKenna (a guy who was there and involved with engines during the times we are discussing), I have to go with his assessment of the E9 departure, even if you say things are "fact". http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/14912-end-of-the-v8-and-increased-titan-sales/ You are a wealth of awesome knowledge but I cant believe a mystery man over a guy who I have met and was actually part of the decision.
  18. I don't think anyone minds hearing everyones opinions, its a free country. But there are a few people who seem to have a single purpose in life- to complain about Volvo and any and all changes mack makes. The constant negativity is sad, and I thinik that is more what logtruckman is talking about. It just gets old hearing a broken record of the same song all the time.
  19. is and always has been at the flywheel. way too many variables to rate at rear wheel when you think about it. take several trucks with same HP rating, but different transmissions, oil weights, axles, etc, etc and the power at the wheels would vary....different friction values equal more or less parasitic driveline losses. Heck even the same HP rating can vary from engine to engine, there is usually a range the factory will let stuff go at (+/-2% or something like that). So two 500HP engines may actually have anywhere from 490-510HP.
  20. I would assume this pertains to the brand relaunch/changes at the show that he noted in his interview
  21. And you work with Kevin and know him? Have you asked his opinion on Roy?
  22. Pretty sure its an op-in program meaning no tracking if you don't want it.....remove the tin foil helmet! The other companies probably are just parts suppliers and tow shops.
