  1. Didn't they start building in Alabama to cut union costs, and now they are saving money by moving back to a union plant? They must have good accountants. Is the MF11 (MAN D20) still being produced? All I hear about lately is the MF13 and Im starting to think the 11 liter was quietly cancelled.
  2. Can you imagine Uncle Sam letting a civilian on a plane to fix a truck these days? It would cost a million bucks and take 6 months to approve it! My how times have changed.
  3. the last FMTV contract was "build to spec". meaning that if you bid, it was to a predetermined sets of FMTV specs- no submitting your own unique truck allowed. so in essence it boiled down to who could source parts and assemble the cheapest, and who was willing to take the lowest margin. of course mack military team knows about the RM and business in Australia. basing overall incompetence on the comments of one person makes no sense. who did you talk to? the receptionist? an intern there experiencing a show as a thank you? perhaps a new hire from a month or two ago?
  4. If you are going Allison I believe the 455M to be your limit...should be stout enough at 1650lb/ft . Although the 445C comes in at 1760lb/ft! The 505M also being 1760
  5. Editing an article as a joke, to prove a point, etc. I get that. Make it clear and have some fun with it. Trying to pass changes off as real I don't get. Just hurts the credibility of your other posts, which generally are pretty awesome and informative
  6. Are they still offering the 11 liter or did they drop that and just focus on the 13 liter? Recent press communication seems to just mention the 13
  7. Why would you self edit a news article and pass it off as real? I get and understand your displeasure with the Mack and Volvo relationship but your behavior borders on the strange side sometimes. Mack has introduced Meritor EX+ Air Disc Brakes for its Mack Granite, TerraPro and Titan by Mack models. “Mack’s air disc brakes are built to our standards and tuned specifically for the needs of vocational customers to help boost uptime and lower overall lifecycle costs,” said Stu Russoli, Mack vocational marketing product manager. “Vehicle operators and workers on the job site can also enjoy the added safety benefits of the air disc brakes’ exceptional stopping performance.” More than 2.2 million miles of real-world service in North America has shown that the air disc brakes deliver superior stopping performance and require less maintenance than conventional S-cam designs. Mack’s air disc brakes utilize a flat rotor concept to prevent heat distortion in heavy-duty service, rather than “hat-shaped” rotors, which are prone to distortion and shorter life. The brake pads are engineered by Mack to deliver top performance in all situations and minimize brake fade during extreme braking cycles and frequent use. “In line with our philosophy of application excellence, our air disc brakes are optimized to give customers a durable option for excellent performance in any type of work environment,” said John Walsh, Mack vice president of marketing. Mack began offering air disc brakes in 2008 on its Pinnacle Axle Forward and Axle Back models.
  8. download the brochure on this link, page 15/16 for the tank info http://www.mackdefense.com/history/
  9. I don't disagree with Superdogs logic. 1550 isn't way high and based on your application, slightly higher than typical may just work a bit better
  10. the 4700 is not available due to the extra weight and the stresses that causes and is a very specialized application trans. any reference to an agreement being the issue is false. the MP s ideal rpm for fuel economy is in the 1350-1450 range where the hp and trq curves roughly cross over. I would stay on the high side of that for cruise rpm, 1450-1550 with a cement truck not spending much highway time, maybe 1600. with this more modern engine you don't want to be cruising much above that at highway speed to reduce fuel use and NVH
  11. Shouldn't you be working closely with your salesman to understand these items on such a big and important purchase???
  12. probably mack specific and not a standard font
  13. they are definitely rated at the flywheel so parasitic driveline losses need factored in on a chassis dyno. 420 at the wheels seems completely normal when expecting a 15-20% loss
  14. not MHD. body company covers the emissions in diamondplate and this one has a clear cab and frame package by the looks of it
  15. I have no idea as far as Volvo axles go put im pretty sure it was discussed and agreed on another thread that mack axles are designed and engineered by mack but not put together by them. Im pretty sure meritor is not the assembler anymore and some other company in the US is currently
  16. I was told in summer of 2011, so at least that long. I would guess the change happened with 2010 emissions or just after it
  17. Oh and thanks for the discount Barry that is pretty cool of you
  18. Now you are really stretching for things to complain about!
  19. there was about 4 months from when the 15L engine was ready until the plug got pulled, maybe a few dozen slipped out. something tells me cat dealers are having to give these trucks away as part of big equipment deals
  20. marine engines operate less frequently (typically) and for shorter bursts of power often at a constant RPM. less use, less time revving allows for higher HP. its a trade off like all things in life. more power=shorter life, lower power=longer life. exceptions to all rules of course. I imagine this truck was built by the dealer as a promo using select marine parts and a little advice from hagerstown
