  1. Thanks that worked great- I had never used the wiki page before!
  2. I'm struggling to find a fairly recent thread on the gas engines available in the B40 series trucks. I recall it had scanned spec sheets and everything...any help is appreciated.
  3. the 15 liters never made it into the cat trucks before the project was killed so that truck likely has a 475 horse 13 liter yellow painted International engine in it.
  4. [quote name="kscarbel" post="186198" timestamp= Hmm. My friend, you just don't know the half of it. And you worked for Mack Trucks how many years? I interpret this as you saying you work or used to work for Mack. In which case it seems sad to me for someone to spend so much time bad mouthing a company he either gets a check or retirement check from. And if he/she still works there probably wouldn't thrill the union or human resources with the comments being made. At least that's how the office I work at would take it if you were bashing them in the public. Whether the check says Mack or Volvo I don't know but it still doesn't seem right to me.
  5. note that its a GU813E with E being a truck that gets exported so he doesn't have any emissions stuff and probably no OBD either
  6. can you explain the Chinese six concept to someone who hasn't heard of it before? thanks!
  7. I'm guessing there has to be some engineering and design done on engines in the USA for mack and volvo otherwise 300 million wouldnt have been invested in the engine plant. I would assume detroit is in a similar situation and probably paccar too. 2011 Mack Celebrates 50 Years of Powertrain Assembly in Hagerstown 1.5 Million Square Foot Maryland Facility Opened in 1961 HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 4, 2011) – In a ceremony today at the plant in Hagerstown, MD, where its powertrain components have been assembled since 1961, Mack Trucks, Inc. paid tribute to the past, celebrated the present and cast a positive eye to the future. In 1959, looking for a modern alternative to its existing engine, transmission and carrier facility in Plainfield, NJ, Mack decided to invest $45 million in a new one million square foot plant on 280 acres in Hagerstown. With construction complete, the first Mack engine rolled off the assembly line in 1961. As the company’s products have become more advanced over the years, so have the capabilities of the Hagerstown plant, thanks to continued investment and a commitment to excellence. Today, the facility is approximately 1.5 million square feet – the area of more than 30 football fields – with a high degree of robotics, automation and assembly controls helping ensure product quality. More than $300 million invested since 2001 alone has brought significant upgrades, like an Engine Development Lab used to provide customers with increasingly fuel-efficient engines – which today are the cleanest in the world in terms of regulated emissions. One thing that hasn’t changed is the dedication of the employees working in the plant, or the value placed on their input. Employees regularly meet in small groups on the plant floor, working together on continuous improvement. The process is called kaizen, but what really matters are the results – competitive products built in the United States. “For half a century, the heart of every Mack truck has originated in Hagerstown,” said Kevin Flaherty, Mack senior vice president, U.S. and Canada. “We’ve always been an integrated manufacturer, with engines, transmissions and axles specifically designed to work together. Delivering on the Mack brand promise of reliability, durability and application excellence starts with the powertrain – and our hats are off to everyone in Hagerstown as they celebrate this milestone.”
  8. first 2 pics reminds me of a volvo VNM. i would like to see a new player in the USA market but i'm not holding my breath. I dont really count the CAT trucks as new.
  9. i dont think the E9 was made for USA emissions or sale the last few years but rather for other markets and export. i beleive the decision, hurt as it may, to kill it was pre-volvo. I'll take a wild guess here and say production near the end was sub 250-300 units per year but i bet some of the guys with the model history can say more accurately what the numbers looked like
  10. does hyundai make their own HD engines or use somebody elses?
  11. yes, if our opinion differs from yours and we continue to support a brand we grew up loving we must be PR employees...what a dumb comment.
  12. Totally agree! Buy a Mack and keep Americans working or buy a Freightliner or International or Kenworth or Pete and keep the Mexicans busy.
  13. I get a kick out of this. I would guess the job profile of daycabs and straight trucks fit Mack products the best, or mack gave them a better deal.
  14. Sounds like we reached a consensus then, 2 modifications centers. One run privately at the allentown dealer and one run by corporate at the macungie factory.
  15. an internet search found two titans with 110K axle tech rear tandems at a canada dealer so to answer your question yes that is an available option now
  16. That makes sense. The dealer has their own modification center which shares a similar name to the one at the factory. See the line that says they have a "close location to the macungie plant"/ The factory modification center is located under the factory roof and run by corporate, that much i saw myself during a public tour. they probably do similar work, so you just have to decide if you want it done at the factory or at a dealer. i could imagine benefits of both
  17. I think Mack3P seeming to be a factory worker ought to be able to confirm this for sure (about mod center not being dealer run)
  18. The Modification Center isnt privately owned or run it is company owned just read the article in bulldog magazine from last year. The titan can have 65 mack tandems or 69 meritor tri drive. I found this stuff on macks website which has good info if you dig around. i didnt find much on front axles
  19. @84superdog. dont feel bad, he does that with everything. there are no other opinions allowed but his own and repeats himself all the time. But i will give credit where it is due to his collection of really neat historicla brochures
  20. Per Macks website a 4x2 granite can have 23 or 30 thousand rear in Mack, Dana or meritor. it does not look like it is HP restricted, but thats possible
  21. Paint colors are still almost unlimited today, and i count 7 colors from the highway brochure including the custom packages, so not too bad at least in that department.
  22. Westport does the frame and axle assemblies, but i do not think they make the axles themselves. When did Mack last assemble their own axles, the 70s or 80s?
  23. Did Mack make the dump bodies for these too? If not, who, and were they installed in the factory?
  24. that is some pretty awesome original info you have there kscarbel. good show for keeping it and the history alive. hope that collection of yours stays taken care of and passed down!
