  1. this is perfect and it blows up well, thank you very much phildirt
  2. I would love to see the performance charts if you dont mind scanning, thank you!
  3. Hello all I beleive I am correct when I say that during the 90's Mack offered the E9 in 450 and 500 horspeower ratings among others. Does anyone know the torque output that went with each of those power ratings????? Hopefully someone is up for the challenge thank you
  4. Here is a video about this truck I found Mack posted last week ya'll should check it out. What do u think? Other Macks from the show are in the back ground
  5. MP8+mDrive is probably one of the most popular highway combos being sold right now. the transmission just had its ten year anniversary from when it was first introduced
  6. You can get extended m-Drive warranties to 750,000 miles, so I think your comments on the reliability probably arent true. I've never heard of major quality issues and I think Volvo has used this transmission for close to ten years. By the way, have you ever driven one or talked to somebody who has used one for a few years or are all your articles based on google searches?
  7. This event happens every year around this time. Up until a few years ago it was open to the public (bad economic turn=big downsize=employees only). I expect that if the first year of being open to the public again goes well that it will become an annual thing again. At least thats what alot of ppl hope will happen. Hope the Macks make a good showing this year and the kids have fun!
  8. The more Macks, the better! This is the first time it has been open to the public with antique trucks on display in years. What a great opportunity to bring back the "Bulldog Round-up" feeling of yesteryear! And the engine plant is an amazing place to tour as well. Same great Mack people in an amazingly clean and advanced factory.
  9. The extra gap you see under the cab and the sleeper is because the titans heavy duty dual air cleaner system is located under the cab rather than under the hood. It raises the cab up higher which from the titan i test drove at our local dealer gives a pretty commanding view of the road. I liked looking down at all the little trucks i passed! As far as the chassis being some sort of stolen cob job stepchild of volvo i have to disagree with that one. last i checked the titan has heavier duty double and triple frame options and heavier crossmembers volvo never had, along with mack only front and rear axles and mack transmissions. Totally unique Mackfront end and cab makes this about as uniquely MACK as anything else. Look at the Australia titan if you want to really see where it came from. I hear you that a bigger sleeper, and axle and hood options might be nice but dont forget what the titan really is. I dont see it like an over the raod tractor at all with a big sleeper. A titan doesnt compete with a lonestar or most OTR petes. Its meant to be a heavy or severe service specialty hauler or an off road logger or heavy dump where a small sleeper does the trick for most customers, or no sleeper is needed at all. I wouldnt think a couple inch hood length difference would sell more trucks. IMHO i think a well optioned Titan looks about as good as anything out there and you can get other wheel types if you order them I think. I hope I dont sound preachy but i guess I'm just showing my colors that I love MACKS and am a Titan fan!!!
  10. Mack and Volvo are the last ones to build all their trucks in the USA. Literally everyone else have some trucks built in canada or especially MEXICO. Spread the word to anyone and everyone. Mack=100% of the trucks roll out of Pennsylvania production facility
  11. I'd disregard Superliners bad additude unless he cares to substantiate his negative claim. I've heard largely great things on the 2010 emissions Macks especially with fuel economy. Both trucks use an EGR and SCR combination with urea so no big differences there. The Shepperd steering gear and 13spd recommomendations are good ones. You may want to also consider going with the 445C rating instead of the 415C if the cummins 425ST had the 1750 lb-ft torque optional rating. The torque would match up better with the 445C. Good luck and enjoy your new MACK!
  12. This Q and A was on Macks website. Pretty interesting on what the public thinks of Internationals 2010 engine. What has everyone been hearing on 2010 International engine performance and fuel mileage (if you can find somebody with a real 2010 engine in there international!) Q and A posted on Mack website found below: Q. From Nathan, 5/9/2011: Who ever said ADVANCED EGR is the HASSLE FREE OPTION might get sued. Their PROSTAR TRUCK is nothing but a worthless piece of junk. We ran a lease fleet of 8 of this "hassle free" trucks and they have been nothing but trouble. First thing first, the MAXXFORCE 13 engine actually is weak compared to the 15 liter engines they try to compete with. No power to crest steep hills or grades, need to downshif a lot to go up hills, exhaust brakes on this engine???? seriously???? I need my COMPRESSION BRAKE or ENGINE RETARDER (JAKE BRAKE) so I can go downhill safelly!!! The exhaust brake on the MAXXFORCE 13 does not help at all with stoping performance. How our drivers hate to stop for PARKED REGENS as this engines require more of them than previous engines or competitor engines. When we got hypnitized by a NAVISTAR sales representative he told us we should focus on "POWER, NOT ENGINE SIZE" well they should focus on not making a 13 liter engine try to behave like a 15 liter engine. ADVANCED EGR is full of HASSLES and complicated mantainance. Boy I know some acid levels of NOx byproducts can build up on their "in-cylinder solution" making it ideal for cylinder protussion and corrotion. Max MPG we got fully loaded with whimpy LACKSFORCE 13???? 4.5 MILES TO A GALON. Why they talk about FLUID ECONOMY when they run their fake TESTS???? IS FUEL ECONOMY and their ADVANCED EGR solution consumes more DIESEL than a SCR DIESEL / DEF combined competitor engine. Why CUMMINS jump out of the ADVANCED EGR wagon???? The best part is that our lease with them will end soon and we will never look back again. A. Wow Nate! Good thing these e-mails are anonymous, as there might have been a Warrenville thug at your front door! And here I thought I was the only one that could wade through all that marketing "fertilizer" that has been spewed forth. It is unfortunate that your company has had the issues that you outline. Even though they are direct competition, when customers suffer, we all suffer, which I personally don't appreciate. As far as engine size (displacement) goes, that is really not a determining factor. 20 years ago, the big gun at Mack was our E9-500 which made 500 HP and 1650# of torque out of a 998 cubic inch (~16L) engine. Now I can supply 505 HP and 1760# from an ultra clean engine! The feedback from customers is excellent. Back to the MF -- I have said all along that when you have no, or very little, fresh air in cylinder you have no way to accomplish efficient combustion, which simply means no power, as you experienced. A recent trucking editor noted when driving the MF there was substantial throttle input required on a flat road, which does not lend itself well at all to good fuel economy. I have heard that their engine brake is every bit as effective as rolling down your window and cupping your hand in the airstream. Parked regens? Hmm, we have all but eliminated any active DPF regen events from the Mack ClearTech. I've looked at a lot of MP7 and MP8 engines in customer service and the number of system demands for an active regen can be counted on one hand without needing your thumb. This is over hundreds of vehicles, each with hundreds of thousands of miles. Internal component corrosion could certainly be a concern. They currently use a heat mode to dry out collected condensation in the air system. You can remove the moisture, but cannot remove sulfuric acid buildup. We shall just have to wait and see. "Lacks-Force?" I've heard them called all kinds of different names -- like MaxxiPillar for the Cat truck version -- but that one's a first! The Cummins folks are definitely not stupid. It took real guts and good business sense to realize this technology would not work. When the lease is up, give me a call and let's see what we can do.
  13. Engines are the same as what International uses and they even borrowed them mostly from DAF in europe. I mean exactly the same only painted yellow- same emissions strategy that uses mega EGR and has there market share dropping like a stone. Who wants an engine that will be replaced by something else in year when International and the engine in the CAT trucks credits run out? I saw the truck and it looked cheap and thrown together so i bet the thing is behind schedule and will be available late. The way the suspension and axle are set up is a guaranteed crappy ride and wait until you tap into somethign with a radiator right up against the bumper. and no axle forward too. IMHO CAT is making a mockery of the truck industry and must think drivers are dumb. stick to construction machines and engines CAT. Spread the word to anyone listening and make sure the DOG eats this CAT!
  14. With the construction market as bad as it is it was probably to expensive to make drastic body changes so mack offered what they could, a tried and true granite with lighter components. This one is for sure available with a single rear axle and i bet the power will do the job fine because that isl engine can go upwards of 350hp and 1200 pounds of torque which seems good for a medium heavy truck. the one piece windshield is reworked somewhat and now is an option for pinnacles granites -medium and normal duty- and titans.
  15. You need to give more info like engine type and power, transmission and thee axle ration you have. tire size, has the engine been serviced recently and so on
  16. List some of the other major issues if you want. There are many Mack employees that watch this site and I'm sure constructive criticism is appreciated.
  17. u will find out next month at the show in viva las vegas
  18. You can only get an MP10 in a Titan, not an MP8. That is fact. Titan power goes from 515-605 horses including a 555 but its in a MP10 not 8 sorry.
  19. Have you driven a new 505 to compare it to a 460? I have heard very positive things. The euro certified engines that europe and australia can use dont need egr so their is less heat rejection and the HP can be turned up somewhat so I dont think we'll get those higher number in north america
  20. the new cat trucks are just international trucks with a different hood and grill. the engines are not cat engines, they are international engines painted yellow. i think a cat auto trans will get used. dont buy into the hype these trucks will flop
  21. Let's not forget that most of the engineers, designers, and factory workers at Hagerstown are the same one's that brought us the E7, E9, E-Tech, and ASET engines. Everything for EPA o4 o7 and 10 was handled in Hagerstown. At the end of the day exactly how "Volvo" is the current MP engines? Cummins natural gas engines are available on trash trucks and I heard this year Mack is introducing a new model option that will be Cummins powered only. I bet we will hear about it publicly in the next few months. The MP engines arent perfect for 100% of everything so Cummins seems to fill in the gaps were its needed.
  22. One problem with that theory: Over the last 6 months Volvo is unfortunately outselling Mack not the opposite which your assumptions are based on. Autocar has nothin to do with Volvo anymore and is pretty popular out west and I think they have somethin like 20-25% of the trash market.
  23. I bought one of these from the Mack store yesterday. I thought u other military fans might like it too. I will probbaly get a military bulldog poster too. http://www.mack-shop.com/mti/ProductDesc.aspx?code=M0398&type=0&eq=&desc=CAMO-STRESS-BULLDOG
  24. You guys hit on the right answer related to emissions killing the E9. Volvo didn't have anything to do with the decision as it was made in 1998ish and Volvo did not buy Mack/Renault until 2001. One important reason was left out and that is the volume of V8s produced. Could the E9 have been made compliant? Of course, anything can be done given time and money. The unfortunate part is that the astronomical costs to do so would never have been offset by the number of E9s that were sold. A couple hundred in a good year, sometimes much less. I agree that the E9 was a monster and has a following like no other, but a bad business case doesnt lie and just like any other company big or small, you have to only make the decisions that can make you money.
