  1. The rears in my truck is 7.58,with a top end speed of 72.
  2. Mine has some rust, but nothing major.Doors both shut tight, don't sag on hingles. No leaks.I can remember taking our truck out of our yard with a Cat D9 dozer on the lowboy and take it to Allentown,PA that wasn't 100 miles one way and if I was to come home loaded I would have to get fuel before I left to come home.I was ok if I was empty coming home.In the early 80's we did a job in Maryland and we didn't even make it one way with a load on.When it was loaded I think it would get about 1-2 mpg.Between the 2 tanks it only held 100 gallons. But it was the best truck I ever drove,it never left us stranded.I also had a CL700 with most all the bells and whisters, like a/c air ride seat, radio, but the old B model just came to work and work it did.It 's 65,000 rears never went out,I think we rebuilt them once but that about all we ever did to that truck.I can see now what it means "BUILT LIKE A MACK TRUCK really means.Taking it apart I see that where ever Mack needed 2 bolts to hold something togather they used 3-4 bolts and over size ones at that.If you have anyother questions you can call me at 215-669-1252,MIke Durkin
  3. I have a 1964 B873SX tractor that I'm in the process of redoing. We have owned the truck since new,so the truck means alot more to me then anyone else. You couldn't give me $50,000 for my truck.I'm not saying it worth that to someone else but to me it is,I guess if I had to sell it then that would be a different story. Before I started on my truck I would have driven it to CA. and back.Like I said before the only thing that would stop me would be the 3-4 mpg.My trucks serial number ends in 1117 so it not that far off that truck.Good luck to who ever buys it.
  4. What the right price, and does it run or when was the last time it ran.
  5. Umodelnut,I would think that the U models were in $35,000-40,000 range.Like I said before they were a light duty truck. They had been ordered by Ryder Trucking and they ended up not taking them,so the dealer offered them to my father because he wanted tractor right away, the r's had to be built and my dad didn't want to wait,so we took them. All we had to do was to order 10 more dump trailers to replace the ones we put under the u-models.The u's would out run the r's top speed but they would shit the bed when ever we would load them over 80,000 which was quite often. We kept a spare front and rear rear's for them in stock all the time.
  6. This truck isn't even broken in yet,it just turned over 72,000 miles this summer.I had to replace the batteries and that is about it,the rest of the truck is completely original.
  7. While I was going through some of the paper work on my old trucks,I came upon the original bill of sale for the 20 R models we brought new back in 1979.These trucks were equip not with much chrome but they were built for what Macks were ment to be used for and that was work. The total price for all 20 was $898,080 or $44,904.00 each. The same thing today would most likely run you well over $100,000.I can't find the bill of sale for the 15 DM600 triaxle dumps we also brought or the 10 U models we took off there hands. The U models were built for hiway running not that good for construction work. They kept the mech.busy.
  8. I remember last year I was traveling up the Jersey Turnpike and saw a B81 dump sitting along what looked like a landfill.I think it was right north of the Newark Airport. It didn't look to be in that bad of condition. Will try and find out how owns it.
  9. Where are you located at.I'm restoring a 1964 B873sx tractor. It in Philly. You can come take a look at it.
  10. Well fellows I made it over to the paint supply store this afternoon and ordered 2 quarts of the green metallic paint for the inside of my B87.What I did was I brought along with me the glovebox door and I removed the little plate for the engine rpm's and we had a clean original sample. He then had his fellow that mixes up his paint take that door and was going to match it up.Will be picking it up on Tuesday morning. Will let you all know how it turns out.
  11. kscarbel, thanks for the info, I will be at the paint supplier on Monday and also be calling Kirker to see if they can point me in the right direction.I'm surprise that with all the b models still around that someone hasn't had a batch made up in spray cans.Mike Durkin
  12. kscarbel, where did you get these numbers from and they still able to be had from Mack.If not maybe I can give the numbers to a paint supplyer and he can cross refence them.Thanks.Mike
  13. Never know there were anyother brand of truck other than a Mack.It like compareing apples and bananas. My father always told us boys you stick with what got you there in the first place.Mack was the only truck that you could buy that was Mack from bumper to bumper.
  14. Your right the old girl does look good all shined up,but the real old girl looks better to me.I guess I'm just a sucker for those old B models. That what I started out driving for my dad,it was an ex B61 dump that we changed over to a tractor for the light duty lowboy work.I can recall hooking onto the lowboy with a Cat D9 on it.Throught I never get to where I was going but we made it.Them were the days.
  15. I will be at the paint supply store on Monday. Thanks all for the help,Mike
  16. I have checked into having it put into spray cans but you are correct in that it awful $$$.I will check out the Detroit Green, this week.
  17. I am looking for the green paint for the interior of my B87 that I'm restoring.I would like to paint all the smaller parts first before I go and mix up a batch for the whole inside of the cab.I do have all the paint numbers for the paint to get it in quarts, gallons.Just could use it in spray cans. Thanks MIke Durkin
  18. Rich, what brings you this far east, are you working construction?
  19. Thanks DodgeMan,where about are you located in PA maybe I can take a ride and see your floor. Thanks Mike
  20. I am in the process of restoring my 1964 B87,that has been in the family since new.I pulled the seats out of it today to see how bad the floor was.I was told by the last old timer that is still around that we had repaired it sometime ago.I can see that the front cab mounts have been welded up with a support to hold up the front of the cab.My question is ,does anyone have a picture of what a cab floor should look like.My two rear mpount I will have to repair. Are there any floor panals out there to be had or do you have to make your own. I will keep you all posted on how it going.I will take a picture of my floor on Thursday, didn't have the camera with me today. Thanks for any help.MIke Durkin
  21. Where di d Anderson go with the waste dirt off that job.It looked like most of his milling machines sat all summer,I guess the city didn't do much milling this past year.
  22. Rich, yes they still have a few R models around.Someone told me H&K have around 200 or more trucks now.Not that they are all running,I think most of them are parked, they have a company valled Stone Express out of Delaware that would run sand from Del and take stone back with them, nowadays I don't see hardly any of those trucks around It just a sign of our great economy.Construction work here in and around PHilly is almost dead. There are two large jobs going on one by Welch out of Chicago, and Anderson Construction out of Philly. Both job are on the cheap side,Welch left 25 million on the table, his job is a 220 million job but that extra 25 million would look awful nice on his side of the table.
  23. You guys have me thinking with the few brain cells I have left.I will go and visit the State Police and see just what they think.
  24. Bigdogtrucker,to answer your ? I would say they disappeared sometime in the late 80's.We still used afew bmodels for water tankers but that was about it.JDM had a shit load of b models mixers, dumps running.I guess what really got them to all disappear were the DOT boys. There are a few township down on the outskirts of Philly that are inpossible to deal with. Rich,H&K has up dated their fleet to mostly Granaites and a few DM.Any of the older trucks are the ones that came with the companies they brought.I don't see the numbers of trucks running around hauling stone and fill like it was back 3-5 years ago.The quarries around here have cut back on their times they are open and really have cut back with the amount of truckers they used.Where did you see that B81 in Sellersville I would like to go and see it,maybe even make a offer on it.Mike
  25. At one time it was loaded with old B models. We had somewhere around 15,JDM about 50 maybe more,Glasgow about 15+,and all the other moms and pops that had 1-2 trucks. There were more B61 than were B81 dumps around here.
