  2. didnt get to see that end but that was always one of my fav pics also. i just got a good look at the cockpit, pretty sparse
  3. got to see the Buckeye Bulldog pull this past weekend at the Fonda Fair in upstate ny. 4 turbos and 4300 hp. had my B model with me, drove right down thru the pits , get out and Mr JR Collins himself is yellin at me to get over here.talked my ear off for about 45 min about 673, 711, 673T, the maxidynes, the better 673t's with firering and his favorite, the 866's. really smart guy when it comes to old Macks and nice as can be to talk with. looked over the truck quick, opened the door and its gutted! even the doors are chopped up, no inners or even inside sheetmetal, he only left enough to bolt the latch in and outside door handle, seat in the middle, think it even had a part fiberglass cab, the back of the cab looked fiberglass. him and some chopped up peterworth called Jacked up were competing i think but both got their ass kicked and a Maroon Dodge Bighorn ended up winning in the end. finished up the night with a few beers with the local fire department guys. overall a nice night. dont go to the fair cause i really cant stand the local rif raff and welfare people that i pay for everyday. haha
  4. mirrors?? ha, why bother, most women i know dont even use mirrors, they just turn around and look over their shoulder thru the back window to back up. good to learn to drive with mirrors actually. think that should be on a drivers test

  6. they were used over the road plenty, and city driving but usually werent run as long so they didnt see as much salt
  7. 4 grand is a steal if the cab and floor is solid and has good hood and service panels.. pretty hard to find a B81 or b75 cab. not as common as a standard B model. the fenders and everything else is standard easy to find b model parts.
  8. i have restored a few b models and thats my favorite part, the bar frame, puttin engine, tranny and rear back in and springs haha. after the cab is on i hate the aligning parts, fenders and all the little things to finish it up that seem to take forever. and dont worry, they are never finished. i always look and mine and think of something to fix or change haha.
  9. looks like an original B61St? they arent that common with the short wheel base tandem. most were made to accept 13 or 14 foot dumpboxes, unless someone put those rears in it. looks to have 34,000 rears with 5 spokes and a triplex ?
  10. the repowering deal is not that bad if you have a B61 doner truck. the best thing about the gas jobs is they were usually ran for a few hundred thousand miles, motors changed out around 100,000 if you were lucky to get that much out of a 401 and then parked.ii have seen B61's with a million and a half miles on them, mine for example haha. they werent beat to death like the diesels were and they didnt shake like the diesels did so the sheet metal isnt as fatigued and worn and cracked. i have seen B61's where the hood was wore thin in the back and front where it rests on the cowl from so much shaking. the gas jobs didnt do this. msot B61's were in the new england area were beat to they didnt run anymore, then cobbed up and ran some more. there is a ton of B models out there. like they said buy the best money can buy in the 1st place. you can always find a B61 that runs and drives with poor sheet metal and find a gas job and move all the sheet metal over. like i said the gas jobs werent really ran as much as the diesels unless they got repowered. of course there are exceptions and we all wanna find that ''barn find'' B model like you see on tv. usually doesnt happen tho but there are some out there original that are well taken care of.
  11. Schwerman tank lines in Upstate Ny had a bunch of B61's with air starters and 10 speed roadrangers from the factory. Doug Fetterly i think said he had a chance to buy a few b models with factory roadrangers down twards NYC one time but passed at the time and he thinks they got scrapped. The 'ghost' B model t shirt is a ghost picture of a Schwerman truck. its also pictured in a few of the Mack books, pretty nice trucks, were a cream color and had dark maroon colored fenders i think and straight pipes with the extra signal lights in the bolt holes in the bumper where the angle iron for the cow catchers would have been.
  12. St Johsnbury and Roadway both had weird configurations on their trucks. StJ had B65's with the shorter hood and weird ass fuel tanks that were really long and sat low to the ground. the square style, still could have been made by Snyder but they werent the standard B model tank. they either has this one or the round 75 gallon ones. i think they also had air starters. makes u wonder where all the Roadway and St Johnsbury Macks went. you dont see any around. was a Roadway R model on ebay a few years back in fla wiht a dumpbox installed. other than that you never see one.
  13. i put 30 maxi cans on the rear of mine and used an anti compound quick release valve. i teed into the air supply for the service brakes and ran to a port on the anti compound part. then ran the two lines to the cans and the other to the dash valve. you leave the front axle alone, no need to change those maybe just put new diaphragms in them.
  14. i remember seeing those pictures before. also seen pcture of Roadway with two fifth wheels on a truck and you could hook the trailer dolly to the frame and slide the one fifth wheel all the way forward. Roadway had some weird ideas. they also had the air conditioning controls on the back panel of the cab and no passenger seat. i dunno where but have sene pictures. anyone remember seein the dollys that hooked to the ass end of the frame? think they had angle iron and a fifth wheel track that ran the whole length of the frame.
  15. that blue 4000 series use to be at Macungie alot i think. guy had a twin to it that was light green colored
  16. for all driving purposes, you would want a B61 or other diesel B model. the gas jobs are under powered unless they are an overhead valve version and those burn too much gas. diesels are more easier to adapt new engines into and a B61 in basic 50 year old attire will still get you down the road at a respectable speed to not piss off the other motorists.
  17. should not have any problems with the case. the aluminum bell housing on the transmissions were junk tho. never seen one that was not cracked. must have been all the torque of the 673's haha
  18. it will work as well as a duplex as long as u dont pound it. Doug Fetterly has ran a Monoshift behind his 237 for years.

  22. yea that transmission will work and might get you 65mph as long as u baby it. if you hot rod it they will spin a single disk clutch and if you lug it too much in high gear you could break 5th gear and crack the case. seen a guy blow the whole back half of a triplex apart before behind a 237
  23. yea, quit mentioning the r model rear with offset backin plates for NEW style chambers. yea that was a def re cab, had the ash tray down low with the throttle and engine stop up high and the radio delete plate in the dash. was a 53-55 cab. makes u wonder how a 55 cab ends up on a 65 truck, should be the other way around
