  1. not sure my explanation would be correct. compare the B series to R's .. the B's were B20's (i know there are B13's) = = = B 80's. all were B series yet different designations based on hp/ frame build/ drivetrain. you buy a chevy 'there are numerous classes yet all chevy's. the R series same. R400's usually gas engines / R=600's many variations yet diesel .. the R= 700's longer hoods bigger hp.
  2. Your NOT alone with the memory fade. alot of good companies back then also had PROFESSIONAL drivers behind the wheel. have been fortunate to have met regularly many of the drivers from major fleets servicing the east coast back then. ST Johnsbury/ Adley/ Navaho/ Akers/ LOMBARD = have been honored to know the owners well. Louis Lombard rest in peace.
  3. the capacity in reality is up to the operator. if you are buying 46k parts and are the driver . haul under the common sense rule. look back at pictures of old AC Macks single axles hauling 100K loads. Paperwork wise in to days world !!! that's another story.
  4. blame the hurricane season on that big ass fan. LOL knew it shouldn't have been installed . the winds in Connecticut have increased drastically since too LMAO
  5. might as well throw a wrench in for more confusion. there were many R models build which had a second R designation in the model . from the R403 === R683's. meaning there were R403's built (1376) 1965-1969 also R403R's (95) 1965-1968. and so on through out the run. what's the second R for ?? every R600R had limited run numbers .. R 715 (123 built) '65-70 the R715R (5built) '1970 only ???
  6. in '69 a Mack single axle tractor was designated as R611T ; it had a Mack 673T with a FULLER ROADRANGER 13 speed RT9513 transmission. the 611 changed from R609 to 611 based on drivetrain. I know the truck ; was owned by co I worked for. I was/am understanding the digit 611/612/615 (no 613) was based on drivetrain. 685 -maxi/688-maxi 300hp etc. "book of wisdom " shows R series went from R401 ("65-75/ R402==403=410=477=478=489=491=492=R607('65)=609=611=612=615=640=R685('67)686=R709('66-67) ETC and 27 more R designations in the R700 series. point is drivetrain possibly bases for the numbers.
  7. I was questioned by the other half ' why do you have to wash the jeep so much ! then mistakenly I took her car with her in it and she saw who works at the car wash. a twenty dollar car wash and you give her a $5.00 tip !!! yea only 5 this time cause your in the car !
  8. If only there was a way to get the younger generation to read all You posted. THANK YOU for the interesting history.
  9. will be some what sad if it goes for a boat ride. new owner {not the broker} will be king of the hill with what will be like brand new over there. also depends on which country the boat ride ends.
  10. wouldn't see a reason to "feel kind of silly" . silly would be not asking questions . it's called knowledge learned . also conversation over coffee ;or other beverage!
  11. enlarging the pictures : 1- there is some light pinstriping.2- couldn't tell if wheels on steer are polished or chrome covers . polished budds shouldn't have the white ring on outer .unless the polished budds got the white painted on to look '70's ??? either way the truck is class. also didn't notice it's a single axle with tag till read entire description.
  12. so basic /practical . dressed up just enough with chrome and polish .yet still working capable. only thing missing would be classy bit of pin striping.
  13. I'm guessing this is 3 -12volt connected parallel ? right track Jojo 'bad connect on neg chassis cable .
  14. never explained the transmission replacement ???? same with different ratio ??? which total length is same or different transmission having different over all length ?changing yoke to yoke dimension! pictures ??? numbers ????
  15. so well explained !! THANK YOU .was feeling a bit elderly till You mentioned "some were metal plaques" . those remember well. don't know where the ones I unscrewed from dash went !
  16. now I feel better knowing the 2020 election was the ONLY one manipulated by ANYONE. dem/rep is only a phony name !!!!! sorry kids 🤔
  17. does that mean I spoke the truth ..?????
  18. 1- if you are adding a front rear diff lock the distance from transmission yoke to front rear yoke should be slightly shorter if memory is correct. the lock out housing is longer by not much. driveshaft slip yoke might compensate. 2- stating you have complete cut-off, intermediate driveshaft should be there which in any case should be same as yours. rear to rear might be same? 3- why isn't the complete cut off being swapped over ?
  19. to be a "mechanic of today" . you are going to find the well of knowledge is quite deep and the "mountain of experience" is quite high to the top. persistence and determination will get you there. I'm "over the hill " and GLAD. DON'T EVER THINK A QUESTION IS TOO STUPID TO ASK!!
  20. they are much more fortunate then the human species! they have worker bees NOT politicians
  21. thanks for the memory refresh . I left Mack in '75 ; couldn't recollect when green steel left and brown plastic came to be. another one of those change-over ; your on your own to figure out the mechanics of this new cab. and Don't think the "new kid on the block "couldn't just walk over to the well learned old timers and ask a question. they just laughed at you (me).they could resight every torque/ spec on a B by memory : a new R forget it. LOL
  22. correct on the three main groups But within those groups in terms of making dash shift pattern decals are sub groups. a quad 5x4 could have a dash decal of 18 or 20 speed. and so on.
  23. possibly it was the young eager age , or not knowing what a computer was which made the difference then. to ground up build an engine ; nervous beyond words as the key is turned and it comes to life ! you can build a transmission/rear end and hope for the best; BUT an engine . thankful to have had some of the best teachers.
  24. as I've always said "opinions are like ass =oles ; everyone has one. no one can decide except you. it's your wallet. to properly do dry sleeves alone in a Mack could be time consuming /expensive. hone/check . sleeve may seat perfect first try . goes in great ; top to low = bring it back out for a shim; only 5 more to go . like sex = in the hole out the hole . point is a proper sleeve puller is needed. borrow/ rent / call a friend has one =pay cash. what ever it may take to build a darn good strong MACK. be thankful it's NOT a U or DM mack. been there too.
  25. 12 ft dia nest !!! that would be equivalent to the great pyramid in Egypt. the yrs it took to create. to have been able to remove cut in half and study. Nature at it's best. underground no less without flood lights.
