Finally some DM progress
mechohaulic replied to mowerman's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
the "check valve" is nothing more then a fiber(plastic) T shaped with small spring. some one must have a cap and washer to replace hand primer . and a BIRTHDAY best to you todayπ», the "check valve" stay with the transfer pump you should have the hand primer top of transfer pump and next to it a metal cap (3/4 wrench ?}locate a similar cap = put in place of hand primer. -

have you considered just removing the hand pump ; replace with the cap . new brass washer and proper cap will also eliminate the question of loosing prime. hand pump not a needed option. fortunately I don't get involved with purchases much any more, prices I hear for things unbelievable. 580 for switch rebuild??? -

the one morning I don't go from cheshire to Southington ; you have the 73 at sign pro!! would have been good to see the 73 out and about. -
my guess it would depend on how close your neighbors / other homes are. a 20 ga with bird shot !! 20 ga will do in the rodents . the bird/ animal lovers may not take kindly to seeing a wounded animal run or be shot.

O&G // HI HO both big players back in the day. around same time both construction companies bought a FLEET of tri axles. O&G were gold/cabs alum bodies. Hi Ho green cabs alum bodies, not positive on numbers for each fleet. guess maybe 15== 20 per. it was an unheard of things back then. companies may buy 2 or 3 ;;; not 10 or more., when the calendar for that year came out Hi Ho made the cut ;;;!! not O&G ;; which for years was a mainly Mack fleet. due to a calendar (and other hostile things) O&G "said "take your Macks and shove them!! back in mid 70's I delivered O&G triaxles 356===376 , that was first batch before the calendar issue. -
no doubt the fresh eggs are better. taking over my Grandparents farm ; along with the cattle/ pigs , chickens were there. ,had to weigh in the options of fresh eggs VS the cost of their food, the rodents that they bring, no eggs in cold weather , when eggs do arrive - too many to eat ; gave away many and the cleaning of coup; chickens are messy . cows/ pigs had many more advantages.

it was more for bragging rights then cost. Hi/Ho had to have a fleet of tri axles better then O&G , since their fleet made the Mack calendar and O& G fleet didn't ; the cost was trivial for them. New England Mack country was different back then. -

does it have one tank or two ? did you check the 1/4 copper vent line ??? insects like the line to build nest . extremum caution when airing up a tank, , pistons don't like either. -

one set of batteries hooked up improper?? disconnect one set at a time AT THE BATTERIES . see if a difference. one set incorrect will narrow down the search . -

the part "it takes a couple loaded clutch activations " is the red light for me. a detent ball could care less if clutch activated rapidly. a double disc with one disc hanging would take notice. a lot depends on the movement of the shift lever during these episodes. lever move slightly after slider working ? is pressure held on the lever attempting to complete a shift ?
-
single or double disc Mack clutch ??? what does the lever do when it hangs up??? : stick not fully move to proper position ?? lever worn jamming between two sliders ? shaft bushing worn it should happen more frequently
-
got my vote on that

that diagram should do you just fine since only change you are making is the 2 -12's VS 4-6's. difference in dia with 4 -6's would have two 6 volt batteries tied in series on each side. 6's in series = a strong 12 also give a longer lasting cranking power. -
lube oil return port on front housing at 4:30 . match front cover on reinstall not any good now but ; I had a 600 lb torque wrench. gave it to someone since moving I had no need for it. challenge is thinking of who now :: can't remember who.
-
farm I help out at to keep busy there are dumpsters parked . right now there is a dumpster from a metal fabricating shop. at least two floor cranes are in it besides countless pieces of steel. makes me sick to see the two cranes in there. I can't use them or store them. two 5 gallon pails ;one full of sockets another full of wrenches. the waste in todays world.

towels/blanket on cab cowl =2x4 or pipe cowl to radiator and a chain hoist to lift the steering box. one steering box /dozens of brake drums etc man handled ;you end up like this old man !! F-- K it use mechanical devices to save the only back you have. don't want to think or count the drums/ steering boxes and whatever else I did.
-
you sure put the pressure on with those pictures LOL being an old fashion Polish Catholic boy who gives up meat for Lent!! LOL I'll go back to my tofu! LOL
-
noticed number of conversations regarding removal of cover ; yet no mention of reinstall. memory correct the cover has only one position for proper install. a drain hole must line up with housing ? or has that been eliminated?
-
never used one ,but one heck of an ingenious idea. real time saver
-
brought it up since he was told ; needed a special tool , long socket more of a special than HD snap ring pliers.
-
and I felt bad since I took the """"how about this weather and turned it into a tofu topic!!!!!!!!""" weather in CT is turning bad this day >>SAVED by the forecast . for you "new "people ;; there IS a "what cha cookin topic;; for your sausage preference just sayin π·ππ₯π
-
I probably haven't worked on anything that new !!!π Eaton rebuilds for me go back to Baskin Robbins RTO9513/ 12513. and YES some had the snap ring set up along with round nut. I had the special socket for those;; must be another gone in the auction item,
-
it's the old story ::everything has a place/purpose. have installed the two piece number of times. P I A to install the roll pins , but not as bad VS the transmissions had to be removed.
-
does he have the snap ring set up OR the left thread special circular nut requiring the long tube "socket" (special tool required one) having two pins which engage the nut for removal ????
