  1. there might be some good in the hole saw idea::: 7/16 + - saw having a 5/16 guide will keep saw centered in hole; the saw will weaken the center of washer unlike using a drill which could possibly damage head. another topic having the "wish I was there ".
  2. attempt the chisel route; we are talking LIght tapping ; be a mess to blast out the head.
  3. as a last resort since all others failed. a small sharp chisel :yep . pros VS cons . two notches across from each other . sometimes the washer will bend up ; down side there is also a chance to expand the washer tighter. have done the chisel route with success. since heads are off no contamination in cyl. never tried this BUT small hole saw to weaken washer. pull that one off your qualified to do open heart surgery!!!
  4. 1:20pm in CT it's starting !! real fine snow/ sleet. everyone seems concerned about having gas/ food!!! I've got 5 bottles of Yukon Jack/ tofu/ and plenty of scale models to build.!! I didn't put the snow there; why should I have to remove it LOL
  5. question I have which I didn't see asked !! IS ::: are You looking to build a truck or trailer. we see this Mack suspension was from a modified trailer. determination is to find a Mack suspension?? as previous stated ; would make more sense if a trailer is being constructed to find a trailer set up building a (Mack) pictures appreciated
  6. are the heads still on the ground as in picture ??? if so a rat tail file BY HAND tap in and twist. check file diameter using old washer that is out. don't want to damage injector bore. also install file in injector hole in head to double check clearances. don't remember if the brass washer hole dia is smaller then on heads, small socket/ flat punch from bottom side ???
  7. reread the post;; I believe the two side by side ARE machined.
  8. it will be a close call; keeping in mind the replacement hub is going to be shorten!! placing the seal closer to the marks
  9. possibly things are different now then back in the "dinosaur days"; speedie sleeves which were installed on front crank hubs didn't come with a deeper install tool(cup). modifications were needed to install sleeve without damage to it. hose clamp ???
  10. having that heavy suspension, be interesting to see what the trailer looked like. did a clever job to cover /seal the banjo. have to wonder if wheel bearings were changed to grease or filled the banjo with gear oil. rear bull gear usually did the movement to circulate oil to wheel bearings. low use trailer ; oil in hub was good enough ??
  11. latest for CT calling for 12-18 inches snow Sunday into Monday with 35 mph winds!! might classify as a blizzard. I could deal with the blizzard of '78 ;; younger (not as wise) . push snow with a TD20 dozer for days. going on 75 without the TD20 only a snow shovel === sucks.
  12. on a positive note : if You put the igloo in those big cooler water jugs and froze it till next winter ;; you could sell it as a brand new 2026 model. and it's easier portable.
  13. early and I mean very early ; dynatard push tubes were same hollow tubes . the tubes were collapsing from this "new" exhaust brake from Mack. change over was exhaust tubes were solid. by '86 (long after my departure) the tubes must have been installed as solid. !!
  14. if ever there was positive constructive advice given ; don't think it could have been delivered better. in this particular situation , the EQT it self is an unusual vehicle. I had two '49 E series Macks; one a EE and a EF; more common of the E series. believe the EQ was heaviest of the E's. have seen a number of "mini macks " made taking a Mack cab installing on a pick up chassis. following ALL the previous suggestions by Vlad ;; best of luck and keep the BMT crew updated when possible. a EQT pick up mini will definitely be in a class of it's own. Thanks for joining BMT
  15. by "the book" the EQ made from '37- -'50 your in the right area with a '48. the EQ has one heavy drive train. EQ production shows 10,661 units. not a low produce number , but that is all EQ ..the EQT it self could be lower numbers
  16. YOU can do it !!! good winter project; keep you out of trouble. I just acquired 81 brand new cans of model spray paint at an auction !! what colors do you want ; I'll send them out. LOL possibilities are endless. stretch the frame and make a 4 axle tractor. the one I showed You when in CT only took ???? months to build.
  17. thanks for reply. R611 tandem dump with 9 speed way better than a 5 speed maxi .have seen tractors with 5 speeds made in to dumps many times only single axles. have some limitations when off roading job sights.
  18. nice unit. being an old man with bad eye sight , enlarged the picture still can't tell if bulldog is silver or gold. what is the specific model :: R685 st/ R611st ? reason for asking is determining transmission. tractor had a 5 or6 speed.
  19. models look great; question:: they look to be 1/32 scale ?? lowbeds scratch built ??
  20. those pictures are what's called a mechanic's dream!! to have such a shop to build a project of that magnitude: SAFELY = amazing. Macks looking real good.
  21. Birthday best to You; Barry!!! and THANK YOU for all Your work and effort to maintain this site .. You have brought the mechanical world and all it's expertise together which has helped countless of people and their projects. we have all learned a lot :if only the high school years had been this learned and fun.
  22. enlarged the picture and saw the mounting bolts removed after post. possibly the manifold was in process of removal ??? this is another "but doc I don't feel good ; what's wrong"??. questions asked yet "Doctors== BMT crew" don't have ALL the particulars to the ailment.. was the manifold being removed to repair crack ???? was the shutterstat line disconnected before the issue ???
  23. did you check the picture showing the thermo housing ; the shutterstat is disconnected???? seems there is more to this coolant system then I think we are aware of. by the corrosion in housing (which had a crack) shutters disconnected = meaning full time open ???? if top of thermo housing is there . for me it would be clean up assemble, fill with diluted water =some conditioner not straight water . run system see what you have. leaks ??? signs of coolant in oil??? not sure of weather conditions in turkey where truck is located ++hot-cold=humid ??
  24. welding alum is a talent in itself ; dirty alum can be a total challenge. stick rod alum a real Pain. wire feed is fun when mastered.
  25. It's the golden years !!! doesn't get better only worse.. the time together !! OH how lovely. mines not talking to me now!! and that's a positive.
