  1. as with every day life moments' use the clutch /don't use ALL depends on the moment at hand. you have a quad or you have a 5 speed;;;; you have 50k or you have 175K on; life's challenges differed moment to moment. after many trials; I could take a duplex or tri and shift with one hand ; ALL depended on the MOMENT.!!
  2. it's NOT bullshitttin : go with the flow!! it's called by today's yuppies _ my day gone by.LOL
  3. it's NOT all I did yesterday : it's "my accomplishments yesterday were """" part of retirement is == take the wrist watch off and take one moment at a time..
  4. like many trucks of days gone by; the conventional Brockways had that bold stance /look. had a neighbor back then who worked for Guyott oil in new haven ct. I rode with him (don't tell) on occasion. long nose conventional == 3?? , WITH the brockway cab NOT the ack cab. still around I hope to make trip to cortland this year. time will tell.
  5. agree with all stated above. have seen loose valve seats create the problems indicated. the fun days of building your own
  6. THANK YOU ; unfortunately the "power plant "inside was rebuilt back in '15; never read the fine print for the warranty. one of my tee shirts states "body parts original , power plant rebuilt". shows picture of half engine/half heart. I stress all the time to all You "youngsters "::: take care of yourselves .sure you can lift that brake drum by hand ; not use the jack.40-50 yrs go by fast ,you loose count of how many drums lifted:: the back will remind you EVERY DAY . think I went of topic "AGAIN"
  7. do it the Polish way when decisions are difficult ;; paint three on driver side green. three on passenger side black! you can only see one side at a time. also entering the senior years .you will forget why you walked over to the passenger side in the first place !!LOL
  8. ride south to see my sister and have coffee with some BMT members looks a little dim at the moment. hopeful appointment with cardio DR very soon . we all have a start and finish date.
  9. truthful replies ARE NOT mistakes. but a willingness to assist those in need.
  10. now there's a man with priority's in my world.!! the chairs only hold your ass ; the wheels on the other hand carry your ass . much more important. LOL
  11. Joey is always figuring things out!! that's why for this ole man Joey is my hero of the future. one day hope to meet the Man who has given sooo much positive to the mechanic world.

  14. and I thought the Polacks used a lot of letters. LOL
  15. a little bit more info and as requested some pictures help a lot. (1) being firetruck LS 85, is this a hobby truck which sits mostly? (2) new batteries charged fully BEFORE installation?? (3) does it have a master disconnect and still loosing charge ? (4) alternator needs power to make power , generator makes it's own :: if I remember correctly. (5) what does the charging circuit show gauge wise when unit running ??
  16. this site is without a doubt for truck related conversation!! there are ALSO forums listed here which are NOT truck related. the trump forum section is like the rest;; an area to express ideas(not opinions; since opinions are like ass-les :: everyone has one). I do believe there are sites out there which are strictly politics. check some of the other forums here , you will find a mixed variety. the trump topic just happens to be latest one. NOT THE ONLY ONE .
  17. YOU ARE CORRECT.. you knew this was a test for us ole folk ,LOL
  18. it's called part of the "golden years" just wait you ain't seen noutin yett.
  19. NOW easy on the Polish thing!!! WE are selective as to who is allowed to be POLISH> Polish and Proud just don't say it tooo loud !!🤣🍺🍺
  20. now if you move a small table in front of the TV /chair and bring out the DM800 ; you can still give positive updates on "DM progress" . watch TV and build a model. LOL
  21. high hopes for update on this unit, if the smoke was billowing out breather before you put truck in neutral ; the engine reversing was taking place. with the neutral action you basically gave the engine free roam to run backwards. with running backwards you put transmission in direct/1st unit moved backwards . could this be a 5X4 transmission. if you are talking a '78 RS ; could be set up with a quad. shut down and restart is proper procedure
  22. that happens when someone uses a tube of silicone PER cover. yes have seen excessive goop used. besides the silicone / indian sealant ; I used a red adhesive :: HIGH TACK = not as bad as the Indian sealer . no need for tons of it . light film on cover; set gasket in place . rubber gasket goes no where when installing covers.
  23. remember that stuff back in the day of CORK gaskets. it held well : but you sure did not appreciate it if you were on the clean the valve covers next time. rubber gaskets of today I.ve always used silicone sealer ;;;; light film only!!! what I have been doing {for years} is to take a small center punch and put numerous divets in the base of the valve cover first. they act as "holders" for the rubber gasket.
  24. backing to spreader box is an easy way for reversing an engine ;;; basically at idle, in reverse ; tap the box tooo hard is same as backing to a loading dock. slow speed/idle low and the tap . I know my memory is fading . I don't remember a '78 Mack with a 5x5 aux.
