  1. "Define poverty of thought" 😁
  2. "Macks in Nigeria, I saw the video of the lady dragging her kid out of the riot! Good for her! There have been several "public service messages" by the Pinellas county sheriff and others about locking your car,as the majority of cars stolen have been unlocked with the keys in them! Ok who leaves their car unlocked with the keys in it in today's world? However it doesn't address the root of the problem! Everyone on this site is either a working tradesman or women or retired from a lifetime of work,if any of us walked past an unlocked car with the keys in it would we be compelled to steal it? The majority of the car thefts by 14 and 15 year old mostly black youths occurred in the wee hrs of the morning as they "troll the neighborhood"looking for unlocked cars! Why weren't they home in bed?! Several of these young criminals were interviewed concerning why they were stealing cars? Boredom was mentioned by several as the root cause! What impressed (or depressed) me most was their level of grammatical errors was so unbelievable, that they were almost speaking a foreign language! Surely the result of skipping school so often! I really feel bad for the many responsible people of color who are raising their children properly and are stereotyped and compared to those who aren't! Saw an editorial by Charlie Ward, award winning quarterback at University of Florida and African American, a term I don't often use,who said that one of the best gifts you can give your children is a book! Amen! Every Christmas my mother gave me at least one book, and read to me as a little kid! I'll use the term African American again,in referring to retired Tampa Bay buccaneers Derrick Brooks who is extensively involved in many charities, including building homes for single mothers who are killing themselves trying to raise their children properly!
  3. Never saw the movie, looks like queen Elizabeth in the taxi!
  4. These people who want to remove all our memorials and destroy all our traditions must have a lot of time on their hands! Are they doing the same bull...t in Great Britain as well? I doubt they'd get away with it there!
  5. OD you're in my old stomping grounds again! I used to live in Washington pa on rte 136! When my dad owned the salvage yard we hauled our scrap car bodies to monongahela city, "Mon city" to the locals!
  6. Good luck hat! Now you can retire and move to Florida!....Wait a minute you're already in Florida!😁
  7. Sorry to hear of the man's death, but who who works under a truck next to a spinning pto shaft!
  8. KSB they have had a variation of "auto drop" tag axles on car haulers since the late 70s however most had no switchgear for the driver to vary the air pressure on the axle, must have had a sensor like they have on modern air ride systems!
  9. KSB, having been retired for 9 years,I admit to being "out of the loop" concerning emissions and other regs! Do all new glider kits have the technology that that requires electronic logs, or is it dependant on the year of the engine being installed? I've been seeing older trucks in ads being promoted as being "pre emissions" trucks! Also are new glider kits required to include incompetence mitigation devices such as automatic emergency braking and lane drift technology or are these optional (like they presently are on automobiles?) Like most competent drivers I deplore having to pay for these! I predict these will soon be required due to legislation lobbied for by our friends in the insurance lobby! Sorry for getting "political" I couldn't help myself!😁
  10. While I object to "automatic emergency braking and lane drift technology" on cars and trucks which I consider incompetence mitigation that will eventually create dependence on vehicle systems and remove what little " defensive driving" that remains among motorists and tragically a small percentage of commercial drivers, I highly support any technology that gives the trucker greater visibility around his rig (especially the glaring blind spot behind the trailer!) How about a combination of the existing mirrors that all trucks have presently, and the cameras? Should hate to think of a camera only truck if the cameras failed!
  11. L Mack if you pull the volvo/mack out by those atrocious spot mirrors you would rip them off thereby improving the appearance of the truck😁 41, I saw an article recently which said only 3.6 percent of new drivers can operate a "manual" transmission! Which helps to explain your dilemma! Every boy and most of the girls in my high school class could drive a stick! Our Drivers Ed car was a 62 Chevy with a 2 speed auto( from Yenko Chevrolet) for you gearheads! And our instructor had us pull out on a hill while releasing the parking brake and pretending to let out an imaginary clutch! Since most big truck mechanics are required to have a CDL do they have a CDL limited to an automatic transmission? I dunno? Boy do I feel old😁! When we took drivers ed we were supposed to learn the basic mechanics of a cars operation! The instructor had me teach that part of the class!, like teaching advanced math to a stone! Lol
  12. Glad to see you back OD! The pictures are great! Happy thanksgiving! Did you smoke your turkey? I thought the Diamond T was a real truck!😁
  13. The last time I saw that truck it looked like junk! Glad they restored it! FYI Evel holds the record for having the most broken bones!
  14. 41, I guess we should get rid of every possession we've worked for so we wouldn't tempt the pos thieves that their parents failed to instill a work ethic in, or failed to teach the difference between right and wrong! That argument is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! I suppose your grandson wasn't a minor, or the parents could have also have been at least been partially responsible for their crimes! The latest " crime wave" in Tampa Bay involves a rash of car thefts, several of which have resulted in high speed fatal crashes both to the thieves and innocent motorists! The thieves are mostly children as young as 14 who usually spend a couple days in "detention" only to be released to steal again! Their parents ( usually single mothers) are not being held responsible for their children's actions! The cars being stolen normally have the keys in them!
  15. Maxidyne, are you old enough to remember when "cornflake" ran those Mickey mouse doubles where the tractor was a long wheelbase chassis and the the first "pup" slid up to the fifth wheel behind the cab?! They must have been a thrill to drive as they seemed to be all over the road!
  16. That"sidewinder" brings back some memories! JV McNicholas had a few of them in their Pittsburgh terminal they were 237 maxidynes. I preferred their R models, but the Us were good for backing into tight places!
  17. I'm in awe at the quality work on that F model! Is it difficult for a right handed driver to learn to shift left handed? Those drivers on "Outback Truckers" can't all be leftys!
  18. In the early 80s an mh cabover and a KW Cabover hit head on in a one lane restriction in a pa tpke tunnel at 35mph the Mh was hauling Coleman campers. The KW driver was killed instantly the Mack driver was seriously injured(never drove again!) But he was walking around when I spoke to him at Ryders Pittsburgh terminal! Macks engineers were so impressed that they came to Pittsburgh from Allentown to view the wreckage! The reinforced fibreglass on the MH is apparently very strong!
  19. I have driven a lot of Cabovers, ironically the best riding was a single axle mh spring ride with air ride cab! The Ford 9000s were said to be the best riding of all, never drove one!
  20. lotta old iron and.parts in the midwest, especially Minnesota! Couple of 60s era Diamond Ts on Craigslist two wks ago!, makes since, they were built in Chicago!
  21. Very sharp magnum! Imron was originally created for use on aircraft!,very durable stuff! Sold for 80.00 a gallon in 1978! Betcha you'd need a small loan to buy it today!😁
  22. You bet Heavy Gunner! My favorite bar based business was the genius who came up with the bar and laundromat in a college town😁
  23. Hear, hear! As always you guys and gals make more sense than probably 80 percent of the population! When I was in high school the " best students" always followed the academic route to a college degree! The others took shop class! Today only the very best degreed students can find a job often at a much lower salary than they expected! The average skilled tradesmen can earn a much better wage than a college graduate! Except there is a yawning gap in skilled tradesmen for several reasons such as the fact that there is a "stigma" associated with doing one of those jobs where you might get dirty or have to do some actual work! Also some of the educated members of society may assume that tradespeople may not be quite as intelligent as they are!lol! I would invite them to attempt to do the math problems a registered master plumber does every day to plot a run of pipe, or work next to a master carpenter when they frame a house and make sure it is level and "plumb" how about the welders that worked on the Alaska pipeline and had to have each joint x rayed! Like the welders who weld the natural gas pipelines that supply people's homes! How about the mechanics that work on the cars, trucks, and heavy equipment that keep America moving! And of course the multi millionaire "honeydipper" who pumps out your septic tank that Mike mentioned! I guarantee the average "yuppie" looks down on that guy! I recently had to have the drain field replaced on my septic tank and the guys were so busy it took over a week to get an appointment! On that subject, I got a little lazy about putting the ridex in the tank every month, and it cost me 2200.00 bucks, a bargain in my mind considering the work and skill involved! Also a couple hundred grand for the truck and backhoe involved! The list of trades goes on and on and almost all of them are shorthanded!
  24. Swishy,if OD got tangled in that nightie, Mrs OD would put knots on his head!😁
  25. The country song "A tombstone every mile" is said to refer to the roads out of the potato farms in Maine!
